Back from my little break everybody! Thanks for keeping the thread alive...
I gotta say, Traveler, that pic of Lopez is not a very good one. She looks stoned out of her mind. Sorry, still not convincing
I was talking to my mom about Wonder Woman, and her mind went to Marion Jones. Another dark-skinned lady, but day-um is she ever buff!

There are plenty of buff and gorgeous female athletes out there, I'm sure. If they can find one that can act, they've found Wonder Woman.

Another athlete I found (found this whole section of sports-wired devoted to female athletes)
Her name is Lisa Harrison and she plays basketball

She's 6'1" and was voted "sexiest woman in the wnba" by playboy (no she didn't pose for them)
So... can she act?

Well , I think you're right . But I think the worst-case scenario would be Lindsay Lohan . As much as I want Joss' venture to be successful , I would boycott the film if she's cast . I'd rather see just about anyone named so far do it before I'd see Lohan as Wonder Woman . She was okay in Disney's remake of The Parent Trap , but I've never been able to take her seriously in any role ( especially her own life ! ) since then .

I was thinking of people with chops that could do it , that haven't been named so far . Anne Hathaway could do it , but she'd have to get a much tougher attitude and buff up a bit .

Traveler's suggestion of J. Lopez got me to thinking of saucy Latinas who might step into the role . As beautiful as Paz Vega happens to be , I think her skills with English are not yet up to the challenge , and she may be a bit too soft for the role , anyway .

If an 'unknown' Latina is cast , we could do a lot worse than see Ana Beatriz Barros as Wonder Woman . The demographics just might work favorably in this instance .

That last one of Anne might do; but, I'm not sure about her acting (I've only seen her in Disney-esque movies, although I have an urge to see "The Devil Wears Prada" now).

Overall, not a horrible choice. I agree with whoever said that Lindsey Lohan would be the worst pick - heck, even Nathan would be better (well, doesn't that paint a pretty picture? )!

Hello Yinyang:

You don't have to make compromises with me. I have my ideas and you have your's. I would love to see Gina Torres as Wonder Woman. She would do a fine performance. She certainly proved herself to me in Firefly and in past performances I've seen.

I just don't want you to think I'm angry that you don't agree with me. Having different opinions is what makes life interesting. It would be dull if we all thought the same things. Diversity is what keeps this big old world spinning.

The woman you see below in my signature is my first choice, but she died 50 or more years ago. Her name is Priscilla Lawson and she played Priness Aura in the original Flash Gordon serials back in the 30's. She was already dead when they broadcast the series on TV when I was six years old. Black hair, pale skin, mysterious eyes. Can a six year old fall in love? Yes. Not till I was older and the serials were available on VHS did I realize what an effect she had on me. But she did. And I can't explain how. So you don't have to explain anything to me.

We have Christian-Judean-Islamic, Pagans, Atheists, and everything in between in this verse, so I think there is room for both of us.

I may be taking this too serious, but I get the feeling you think you hurt me because you don't like Jennifer. No way. You could never do that.

Yinyang, I will always continue to look forward to your wonderful posts and discussing any issue with you.

Now you have to rent the film "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn". You will recognize me. I'm the drunken dreamer. Well I was before I quit drinking. Now I'm the sober dreamer. I don't stagger down the streets anymore, just in these threads.

All right, I'll see if I can find that movie.

Oh, and as to the matter of compromises - sometimes, it's fun (and healthy, I think) to actually consider an idea, rather than reject it out of hand. As trivial as it may be, this is what I'm doing with your idea of Jennifer Lopez - thinking about how she could or couldn't fit the role, and why I think/feel that way.

You? Angry at me? The possibility hadn't even entered my mind (is that presumptuous of me? Don't answer that.).

Too serious? Naw. Sometimes it's good to pepper life with these moments - otherwise, how could anyone enjoy the sillyness?

Heehee!

I can't remember her name, but the woman who was in Terminator 3 might be able to do it. She was tall and could be a scary ass-kicker.
I like the pictures posted above (can't remember their names now, either. Can you tell I didn't get enough sleep last night?) but they both look a bit too soft for it. They would need to bulk up a considerable amount.
As for getting someone who will fill a theater; that is what the studio wants, but not what Joss wants. Joss wants someone who can fill the role. I sure hope he doesn't have to compromise that to the point of casting the likes of Lohan or Jolie (I like both of them, they just aren't Wonder Woman) and certainly not a American Idol.

She's hot. And she's 5'11"

*edit* Jennifer Connelly looks pretty good, I would want her to build some strength, though. She's got thin little arms.
The other thing is that Joss has said he wants a relative unknown. We don't know if he'll get his way, but that's what he wants. Come on, it's Joss; he's all about finding the amazing talent in unlikely places. Look at Summer.

Conelly and Lopez are too old (so is Gina). There have been hints that anyone pushing 35 is literally out of the picture. My wet dream is that either Morena or Indira Varma (from Rome) gets the part.

Too old ? You know , Joss of all people would probably resist such a characterization .

On the plus side , Connelly would be considered a 'bankable' star , due to being somewhat 'known', in addition to having an Oscar win in her column . The Hollywood hats would like that , but would likewise be among the first to say an actress not quite in her
mid-30's is " too old ". That would be tragic , because the more important things are how well she can step into the role , be believable , and look good while doing it .

I like Morena for the role also , but so far it looks like Joss will have an uphill fight to get her .

Seems I remember some of the studio 'wigs wanting Jessica Alba , but in her 'superhero' turns so far , I've found her somewhat underwhelming . Serviceable , maybe , but still underwhelming . I think she's more suited to the 'Into the Blue' types of roles . Would be a better choice than some , but not nearly as good as others . Middlin' , you might say , and that's exactly what Wonder Woman doesn't need .

The other extremes are either a known quantity like Connelly or an 'unknown' like Ana Beatriz Barros . The smart money would choose Connelly .

But if they decide on an 'unknown' , I say Ana Beatriz 'cause I think she can do it . Or Morena , who definitely can .

Put Morena in the column of 'known' unknowns . Safer than an 'unknown' unknown .

FINN MAC CUMHAL

There are lot of hot female actresses and models, and I frankly have no fathomable clue who the industry will pick or why. But I can think up some criteria on my own, much of which will probably be of importance in the actual choice (or not), such as acting ability, similarity to Linda Carter, not overly expensive or carrying a lot of baggage. My ability to assess such things is probably poor to non-existent.

Wonder Woman was an Amazon. That doesn’t mean she’s from Brazil, folks. The Amazons were from Asia Minor and the Eastern Balkans. And Wonder Woman’s true identity was Princess Diana or Artemis, a Greek God. So her ethnicity could be Greek. But Greeks have dark eyes and dark hair and olive to light skin

Alternatively, if you wanted to get technical with the history, many Amazons were thought to be Scythians/Cimmerian or possibly Galatians, both of which come from a culture where women were likely to be warriors. Neither the Scythians nor the Galatians were Greek Scythians may have been Slavic, Iranian, possibly Celtic or Germanic. The Galatians were Celtic. So depending on how one frames the story, many ethnicities could work. But I’m thinking that could be stretching the story, after all Diana/Artemis were Roman/Greek gods, not Celtic or Slavic, so I’m going with the Greek Ethnicity.

A few selections:

Jessica Beil – NO : got the Action heroine down, but not the look
Terry Ferrel – NO
Jennifer Lopez – NO : way too much baggage and way too expensive
Selma Hayek – YES : Latina Ethnicity, Good Actress, similar appearance to Lynda Carter, right attitude, but maybe expensive?
Kira Knightly – YES : She made a great Guinevere, she’s a good actress. I think she has the right look, but she’s a little bit petite to be following in Lynda Carter’s footsteps.
Ana Beatriz Barros – NO Can she act? I doubt it.
Anne Hathaway – NO : Seems like a lot of work would have to be done
Jennifer Connelly – NO : likewise
Kristanna Loken – NO : Wrong look.
Lindsay Lohan – NO : Good Actress. Too much baggage.
Morena Baccarin – YES : Latina Ethnicity, Fair Actress, Similar Appearance to Lynda Carter, can she pull off the action heroine thing?
Paz Vega – Maybe
Catherine Zeta-Jones – YES : probably expensive

Don't follow the logic , sometimes . A lot of models have made the transition to acting . The kind of physical intelligence that serves a model well also is required of actors . Wouldn't rule out some of the models listed so quickly .

As for needing some 'work' , upon 'greenlight' , most any of the actresses named would be willing to train for weeks or months to become Wonder Woman . It's what Linda Hamilton did to become buff enough to have the right look for the Terminator films . Summer Glau did a lot of fight training for the physical demands of her Serenity role .

Salma Hayek ? Admittedly , she is very beautiful , but I just don't see her as having the stature of Wonder Woman . She's a bit vertically-challenged .

Well , to throw more fuel on the fire , and to continue my tradition of casting folk in challenging roles , here's my newest candidate :

<> <> <>

Jules Asner ! Yummy Wonder Woman !

How anyone can see her and be an atheist is beyond my understanding...

I'm for Morena and Gina.
It depends on who the casters will pick.
Joss gives a hell lot of guesswork and sometimes hints as to Morena being WW. Although it could be a misdirection.
Morena could play the soft, vulnerable, strong from the inside.
Gina - - - can kill you with her pinky.

I've never been a big WW fan, I always put her in the same category as Aquaman, really nothing more than a background character. I understand I am in the minority with that sentiment, but I am interested in seeing what Joss will do with it. As for my 5 picks:

1. Jennifer Connelly
2. Kate Beckinsale
3. Eliza Dushku
4. Morena Baccarin
5. Charlise Theron

And just a side note, I can't believe anyone would want Jennifer Lopez in anything, let alone this movie. She's useless camera fodder that hasn't done anything worthwhile since the start of her career.

And as far as Gina playing WW, as much as I feel she could support it, I don't think it will work. Catwoman sucked, but a contributor to it's failure is the fact that they reimagined the character as black. It's not that african americans can't be super heroes, it's that most fanboys/girls can't handle change. I seem to remember someone on this board commenting that one of their problems with X-Men 3 was that the actress that played Kitty Pride was 'too short' and that Phoenix 'never wore green'. If they're going to get their tighty-wities in a twist over something as minor as that, an entire race change is a big deal.

I think that Joss should just throw away the whole WW idea. It should never take place. Joss should be thinking about directing the second season of Firefly, not some other movie.

If indeed, there is no way of making the second season or starting on our next BDM then I say, that it should be one of our fine ladies to star in it. People will start to notice her, find out what else she has done and find Firefly.

It would not be very cool if we had to wait for Firefly's progress because after this movie one of our actors was in the middle of something else (they need to eat too). Anything that is preventing Firefly from going forward is a bad idea.

As long as there is a chance, "like hitting a bull's eye from 60,000 miles away" (War stories) then I say we push on. If there is not a chance because someone has given up on us...well then that is a tragedy in itself. We will keep the faith, we will keep pushing, but will it be in vain? I hope not.....

Marine, let's not forget that Joss needs to eat too. And Joss has more passions than just Firefly. Angel was stolen from him (Joss found out like half way through the last season that he had to wrap everything up), and he fought to keep that on the air and lost. Fox doesn't care, they never have. They (Joss and his casts) and all of us can't hold out for a pipe dream most of us know is never going to come true. We got the BDM, and to be honest, it's more than I ever expected. Just be happy we still get the opportunity to see a creation of Joss', whatever it may be, come to life.

Greek women aren’t exactly known for their height. Amazons were though, but I’m not sure there are any historical records that describe them that way.

But, if tall is an important factor that’s a pretty strong discriminent. Here’s a few celebrities suggested so far with, with their heights. This data is not scientific – meaning I just quickly googled the lot of it.

Kate Beckensale – 5’8”
Jessica Beil – 5’8”
Terry Ferrel – unknown
Jennifer Lopez – 5’6”
Selma Hayek – 5’2”
Kira Knightly – 5’7”
Ana Beatriz Barros – 5’ll”
Anne Hathaway – 5’8”
Jennifer Connelly – 5’8”
Kristanna Loken – 5’ll”
Lindsay Lohan –5’5”
Morena Baccarin – 5’7.5”
Paz Vega – 5’8”
Catherine Zeta-Jones – 5’7”
Eliza Dushku – 5’5”
Rachel Bilson – 5’2”
Jessica Alba – 5’7”
Angelina Jolie – 5’7”
Gina Torres – 5’10”
Halle Berry – 5’7”

If I saw Anne Hathaway sportin a six pack I might change my attitude, but right now she’s just way too Disney.

I don't think height is quite that important. Actors can always be made to look bigger or smaller (e.g. Wash looking smaller than Zoe even though in actuality he is taller). I think what is more important is the build so that WW doesn't look too scrawny.

I never saw the Lake House, but I always thought of Sandra Bullock when I thought of Wonder Woman and vice versa. Think Miss Congeniality.... I know I've actually seen some photo manips of Sandra as Wonder Woman, but I'm at work now so I'm not going to look for them here. If I think about it when I get home, I'll look for them.

I’ve seen the Princess Diaries. Does that count?

If that's all you've seen of her I understand. Watch her in Havok, and your mind will change. It's not a good movie, but she deafinately spread her wings ... well she spread something at least.

My friend would indeed like to see J.Lo in the role for WW. She's fit enough.
Yet, something about J.Lo bothers me as well, probably the baggage.
I'm still going for a virtual unknown, because I don't want my actress to be making "DEMANDS" on my director.
Especially if your director is also the writer, and is the type that wants every syllable in the script to be done rightly.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Finn, Terry Farrell is 6 feet tall. And I notice you didn't list Erica Durance, who is 5'7" or Lucy Lawless, who is 5'10" (and I don't think anyone said that Halle Berry should have the role. I certainly couldn't see it...)

Okay, so yeah, that’s pretty anti-Disney, although I’m not sure it makes her any more Wonder Womanish though, which, come to think of it, should be at least a little bit Disney.

I did see Halle Berry, but I didn’t check to see what context. I missed Lawless though, who would actually make a good Wonder Woman, though I suspect she’s a bit older then people are looking for. Same with Farrell.

And yeah, I completely missed Erica Durance, or possibly someone just posted a picture without a name, and I didn’t know who it was. There are several pictured ladies in this thread that I guess I’m supposed to know, but don’t. So there are probably several people I left out.

My first post is pictures only, but miss Lawless is my number four pick (she would be higher if she were a little younger) and miss Durance is number two. I didn't post names because I wanted to see what people just thought of the look. Maybe I should have...
And Halle Berry was just mentioned in the context of "Catwoman" and how many people got pissy about her race. Though as I said before, most seemed a lot more pissed about the story and charater behavior than the race of the character.
