Does this film really need a re-make?
Did Planet of the Apes?
Wasn't The Island enough of one?

http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Dimension/5357/remake.htm

Let's have opinions- mine is that if they stick close to the novel, okay, but why re-make a cheesefest classic? What, to make it realistic?? The brilliance of the movie is that nothing inside the Dome was realistic.

Maybe I'm just getting too old for this s**t.

Use your key now Chrisisall

NO! The tv series was enough (which I admit to watching, but I don't remember much of it) And who can really replace Micheal York's Logan? He WAS Logan. But that hasn't stopped Hollywood from milking something when there's no need (Charlies Angels, Starsky and Hutch [HATED THAT PIECE OF GO SE] Dukes of Hazzard [wtf?])

Bottm line, Hollywood has decided there are no reason's for fresh new INTELLEGENT ideas so go into the vaults, take out movies that were classics and screw around with the formulae because today's kids aren't possibly smart enough to understand the brilliance of the original.

Snarky of me, but it seems the Hollywood suits are well past their Renewal. They're crystals are red, send them to Carosal.

I've always had a soft spot for "Logan's Run". After the movie I read the book and it's sequel "Logan's World" (the first voluntary reading of my life).
Making a movie closer to as originally written would, of course, please most science fiction fans and have little mass appeal. Even the morons running movie studios understand this so it'll never happen.

Why not remake it? people watch films multiple times and read books over and over.

I have seen remakes that were good and some that were lousy. It's no big deal to me, if I think it will be bad, I don't watch it.

Certainly the first Logan's Run could not be rated so high that a remake would be an insult to the original

The only possible objection I can imagine is the resources spent remaking a film that could have been spent on making Hyperion or even Ender's Game

Oh lord NO! Logans Run was one of the films of my time, like Serenity is for a lot of people here. I'm not saying it's up to parr... well actually it's one of the few that are, but then Logans Run was made when movies actually used intellect over effect. If they remake it you know it'll all be about the flash and bang, that's why Serenity stands out among the go se out there.

Logans Run was character based, CHRACTER! The suits have forgotten how to put character and sci fi together. Either it's epic or cheesy, but never moving or profound. LR had a message that would be lost these days. If they follow the book or original movie then maybe yes, it will be good but as someone once said "I have a bad feeling about this."

Hollywood have run out of ideas so they just keep pouring out sub standard re-makes. Logans Run is a classic (mmmmm Jenny Agutta naked) you cannot remake it. I recently seen the re-make of The Fog and it was diabolical. The only re-make I have liked over recent years is Dawn of the Dead because that was totally re-invented. OK it isn't as good as Romero's classic but I think it's not bad.

It'll be interesting to see the re-make of Logans Run but I don't hold any hopes for it being any good.

If done well it could be good, it's a film that could pose serious questions and social commentary if it didn't hit Camembert on the cheese scale.

But having said that nearly all remakes are a just crap released to cash in on a name because hollywood has run out of ideas.

But Chris, before you go bad mouthing remakes of 70's cheese I have two words for you:

A remake of Space 1999 would be interesting, and it should be called Space 1999. I think that if they pulled it off, it could be a hit. They brought back that battlestar galactica and it worked.

Logan's Run was an excellent flick for its time and making a new one would prove to be very interesting with all the modern special effects. My only concerns with remakes are this: Planet of the Apes. Planet of the Apes especially the 1st and 2nd one were great. Did you see what Hollywood did to the remake of the original? Special effects were good, but the movie itself really was bad.

I dislike when they do a remake of a movie or a television show and turn what was once a serious movie into a comedy. I-Spy comes to mind. I-Spy was a pretty serious TV series, but the movie they made out of it years later was a comedy. Same goes for The Wild, Wild, West, good series but they really messed it up with the movie.

I also know that eventually they are going to get around to this and really blow it…The Six Million Dollar Man, and the Bionic Woman. I know that somewhere down the road they are gonna take both of these classics, and turn them into a comedy when both shows were trying to be serious. This will kill me, but maybe I’m wrong; I hope I am.

That's a tough call as the movie was good-but-not-great and differed from the good-but-not-great book considerable. I'd like to sound all intellectual but I'll have to say I like the movie better. (I've been considering reading the third book but the reviews are almost all bad.)

Oh Shadow, your making me cry thinking about it because you know they will. Like I said they're going farther and farther back into the vault looking to remake things because they've run out of stories, ideas, brain cells. Who could forget watching these classics and the adventures they went through, not to mention the agony Steve Austin went through when he had to let go of his love after her accident? Getting teary eyed at the memories, I was a kid and even I got it.

Starsky and Hutch was never a comedy, hell it was one of the groundbreaking shows of that generation. Real cops solving real social issues and the most powerful episode was when Hutch was captured by drug dealers given a lethal overdose and left in a sleazy apt for dead. Starsky panic stricken trying to find him then having to sit with Hutch as he went through the terrible withdrawel pains (this was way before there was a thing called re-hab). I cried in heartbreak having to watch my favorite character (I was going to marry him you see) go through such hell.

And what do they do with it? They make it a FREAKiN COMEDY! And with 2 of my least favorite actors WTF! I was angry beyond belief and have vowed NEVER to watch that piece of motherless (insert worst chinese expletive) crap. Why the two original actors did a cameo I'll never know (but most likely for the money) but I would want nothing to do with it. Take my memories and piss on them. SHAME on you Phoneywood.

Btw, who here can pinpoint the year Phoneywood started to go downhill?

Issues? Maybe a little.

Please, please leave the Bionic woman and her counterpart alone.

If I'm a bitch, then life just got interesting

UFO was british? Didn't much get into it, but I do remember the opening to the show with that silver car, the tacky british action music, and some fellow with white hair. Also the caption that flashed 1970 across the television screen. That show was out about the same time as The Prisoner, which I watched instead.

No, just a reasonable facsimile. No connection to Irwin Allen.
No flying sub, but a pretty cool show (1st season anyway, 2nd got all with the aliens and monsters and such).
I got it on DVD, and it thrills the seven year old in me!

Logan's Run could be cool. Maybe even as a series. Tho I'd rather they used the Serenityverse (is that a word? Well it is now gorramittall!)

As fer the "when did all this remake stuff start...." I would have'ta guess the 90's, with the Addams Family, Brady Bunch and Beverly Hillbillys movies.

How long do we have'ta wait for a Mork and Mindy
or Man From Atlantis? How about Sat morning shows like Jason of Star Command, Ark 2 and Space Academy? SHAZAM and ISIS!

Seriously tho. What ever happened to Omega Man? ARNOLD was going to be in a remake called
'I Am Legend' (the name of the book) but he's busy being the Governator now so....
