CYBERSNARK

Actually, the "Superman as crappy father-figure" is in the comics too.

Among the metahuman/vigilante community, teenage sidekicks (Robin, Superboy, Wondergirl, Kid Flash/Impulse, Batgirl, etc) are basically "adopted" by their adult counterparts, who are responsible for their training (both in terms of skills and in terms of keeping them on the straight and narrow).

Batman's approach (up 'til about a year ago, when Spoiler died) was to keep both Robin and Batgirl on a short leash, giving them enough freedom to have the illusion of making their own decisions, while still being near enough for him to rescue them. He lavished Batgirl in particular with various expensive "toys," including her own batcave, her own civillian hideout, a motorcycle that she never used, full access to his training facilities and resources, and even let her tag along with him in civillian guise as he travelled the world (as a Waynetech "intern"). Robin is the "older brother," who is allowed the use of Bat-vehicle he requires by simply asking.

Wonder Woman actually lived with Cassie (Wonder Girl) and her mom for a while (she may still, I haven't really followed her books), and still shares meals, vacations, and non-crime-fighting activities with the family.

Flash put Impulse in the care of Max Mercury, the speedster who had trained him, mainly because he knew he himself was too immature to be a good role model. He still visited frequently and hung out with Bart.

Superman. . . Let Superboy wander off to Hawaii on his own (Supes probably didn't even know where he was) for like, two years (in comic-time). Then, when Superboy came back to Metropolis, he had to buy his own crappy-ass apartment (and I mean crappy --roaches, leaky plumbing, mold, mildew, and a morbidly obese neighbour with five babies and a drunk husband), pay for all his own stuff, and didn't even help him find a job.

Then, when it became apparent that Superboy needed help, Clark just shuffled him off to Smallville to live with the Kents.

When Superboy started putting the moves on Batgirl, it was Batman who chewed him out, then went and reported it to Superman who had no clue.

Freakin' deadbeat.

Ok love this thread...just saw the movie and really liked it too ( still upset about the pomeranian and the fact that non of you gits warned me!!:) However, I find it so profoundly stupid that no one can tell Clark is Superman...wtf are they all blind...or profoundly challenged?? I mean with batmanand spider man et al they have huge masks covering all or most of their faces...but freakin glasses. I mean come on people...Plus you are telling me Lois can fall in love and sleep with a man and not know what his eyes look like or his face?

Agreed! Lois is supposed to be smart, but she's clueless. Even when Superman and Clark are both mysteriously gone for 5 years and then both mysteriously reappear on the same day.

Select to view spoiler:

The new boyfriend guesses the obvious, but he laughs it off with Lois' encouragement.

About the pomeranian - ever see Blade Trinity? Parker Posey also has a pomeranian in that movie. I wonder if it's just a coincidence.

I saw Superman Returns today and I liked it. I didnt expect too, but I did. I noticed something. There was a scene in the movie where Superman did an Action Comic issue #1 cover pose, June 1938 which I own by the way. Where he's lifting the blue car. I can't believe that I noticed that during the movie. I am one weird girl but I think it was a nice touch.

I love the fact that Superman saves Lois and then she saves his ass....I always wanted to see that; good touch.

Good movie but, but will easily be forgotten.

Now, though I love Superman, the movies with Christopher are still among my favorites of all time (minus III and IV respectively) after seeing this pic and reading Phoenix's post, I had to share. Enjoy.

CURSES! SHE BEAT ME TO IT!!! Though it bears repeating.

Seriously, though, give me a vote based on your honest opinion. I know there are entries better than mine. the frustrating part about making anything for that site is that you have to use images you are "allowed" to use, so it was a struggle to find some public domain stuff, since I don't want to pay for a stockphoto membership. Though I'll probably have to one day.

What's with all the talk about Superman's gayness? I saw the movie and he didn't seem gay at all. Matter a fact he played the role Superman very well.

I did like that when he was lifting up that blue mustang and tilting it, the directors had it look exactly like the cover of the 1938 edition of Action Comics. Good job.

I think that particular Action Comic #1 from 1938 is worth about $5,000USD.

Depends on the condition. If you have a copy who's condition is 9.4, the value is $500,000.00 USD.

If you have a copy who's condition is certified CGC 9.4, the current value is $1,000,000.00 USD.

It's worth $5,000 USD in 'poor' contition, which is looks something like this:

For some reason they have the wrong cover pictured, but it's for the right issue.
