Blue Thunder was a great action/conspiracy flick. While a bit flawed ( kind of convienient that Murphy got to test-fly it before he needed to steal it), it delivered in the ariel fights department. And Roy Schieder is always a plus (He was in that shark-thing in the seventies, I believe).

And Airwolf was just awsome ( It's second and third seasons slipped into family-fair garbage, but the TV movie was really well written, and most of it's first season was serious adult spy/cold war intrigue).

Blue Thunder was recently re-released with an excellent animorphic transfer, and Airwolf's first season has been available for some time now, although the transfer is just 'good', average for a TV show, but totally watchable.

Any fond memories?

Chris,
Odd you brought up Airwolf. Just yesterday I looked up Ernest Borgnine on Wiki to get the name of the actor who played the pilot, Jan-Michael Vincent, because I wondered what happened to him. Seems his name oughta be Boozefellow Drug-awk. Cain't git no work.

It's my guess that landing that TV gig (no more movies) and turning fourty at the same time provoked a mid-life crisis, one that he fell completly victim to. Too bad; he had a certain undeniable presence (when he wasn't drunk, that is).

Ooopps! Was that mean? Chrisisall

Airwolf was fun in its first two seasons (who remembers the episode with the uncanny prediction that Charles and Diana were to split up?) but surely the third season premiere is the definitive lesson in what not to do - if you're going to bring in a new cast, you better get rid of the old ones in a classy way.

Plus of course they had no new footage of the helicopter - for a whole series!

I know Joss wouldn't let that happen to Firefly but sometimes... it's best to let them die.

Airwolf was a girl's helicopter. No crossbar or nothin'

Blue Thunder was the proper article. Sod streamlining, let's have more ordinance.

The TV series of Blue Thunder really stank, though.

Best helicopters in films were David Janssen's traffic news job in Bird of Prey and again the little Hugheses that hunted the astro - nots in Capricorn One. They were really bad news.

I had a schoolgirl crush on Stringfellow Hawk, but then, I was a schoolgirl, so it was ok. (This crush replaced my schoolgirl crush on MacGuyver, and was followed by my schoolgirl crush on the LT from Tour of Duty (Myron something?)).

But the Stringfellow Hawk crush came with the added bonus of becoming fascinated by all manner of aircraft. Anyone watch/remember a show called "Supercarrier"? I don't trust that it was especially good...just that I had enough residual guys-flying-aircraft interest from Airwolf that I was excited by that one when it came out.

I used to stay up late at night and sneak to watch Airwolf (in syndication) on USA. I think I saw the cheesy VanDyke led cast first, because I remember being blown away when they first went back to showing the first season episodes.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I really liked "Blue Thunder". It was a good movie. Roy Schieder is a fairly good actor in my opinion and did a great job w/ the role.

Now Airwolf on the other hand I loved. I remember being glued to the TV every week to see what Stringfellow & Dom would do w/ that sweet helicopter next.

I agree that the pilot & 1st season were the best. It got kind of watered down in the 2nd & final season.

Blue Thunder was pretty darn cool, but I must say that Airwolf was the cat's meow. Cranky old mechanic, reclusive hero, wicked cool technology who's only rival may have been KITT from Knight Rider... yeah...

Birds of Prey was one of the best ABC TV Movies of the Week (remember those?, they gave us Night Stalker, Kung Fu, Duel..etc.).
And those copter moves in Capricorn One were copied in the Airwolf episode 'Bite Of The Jackal'.

And remember that one season wonder cop series Chopper One? It had a cool theme song, but the show was fairly bland.

Wow. Blue Thunder. Have not heard that mentioned in awhile. I liked that movie, and wanted the helicopter. Also got a laugh from the FNG hat...
Thanks for providing the walk down memory lane!

Mal Reynolds lost all faith...except in his friend Zoe...and Serenity...

I think the first few eps of season two were good, but the network-ordered family-orientated mandate took it's toll rather quickly.
Still, the pilot (excuse the un-intentional pun) is a classic now.

Chrisisinforatreat,

Head for Barnes & Noble immediately. A bookshelf without Chickenhawk is like a DVD rack without Firefly. Mine has been read into ragged submission.

Flying UH1s in Vietnam. The start is good as well. Training from scratch in underpowered piston engined clunkers.

Select to view spoiler:

Brilliant bit where the instructor shows the assembled class a Huey for the first time. Switches on engine, runs it up, switches the engine off, lifts into a hover. Turns 180 and lands in perfect control.

Maybe not spectacular, but bloody cool, which is always better.

And the writing is completely outstanding.

You still here? Anyone not shopping or logging on to Amazon, I'll shoot them where they stand.

Airwolf over Blue Thunder. The Blue Thunder Helicopter looked like it was made out of Meccano!

Airwolf was awesome and I love that wolf cry they gave it when it'd whizzed towards the camera!

I remember as a kid thinking I'd love to live in a place like old Stringfellow Hawk lived in. Man what tranquility... or is that Serenity... anyway, one of the coolest themes aswell!

Never quite understood what that bloke in white was all about though... and he'd show up with a new lady next to him every week too.
