Not a Sci/Fi series , but a game. I bought an XBox 360 for this game. I must say absolutely stunning. If you wanna be in your own Lord of the Rings, this is the game. I cannot say where this game goes because what it does is stick you in a totally believable RPG universe and says 'ok you get on with it'. The graphics are second to none and the world you are in is so believeable. . I definately dont wanna pay 50 quid (75 dollars) for this game or like all games they ask for the 360 but its the only game i want for the machine :). Yes ok I could get it for my PC, however my PC would just cough and die at just looking at it. I need a PC the size of Kent (Kansas for the americans) to get it moving at a reasonable rate of FPS. Fanatstic game

Yep, just got it the other day, myself. (Big-time gamer here, and of course Elder Scrolls has always been the holy grail of RPG's.)

Actually, I was suprised that it ran so well on my computer. It's getting to the point that I can't play any of the new FPS's with a survivable framerate. Had to tone down the resolution to 800 x 600, and bring the draw distance down a bit, but I get a pretty decent framerate (at a guess, maybe around 25-30 so not great but not so slow as to spoil the effect either.)

Yeah, it rocks. So much. :)

How sick is it, though, that I can only play for maybe two hours at a time before I starting wondering what's going on the Firefly 'verse? ;p

Good stuff my man/woman. It has some good actors at the begining as well. Patrick Stewart as the King and he dies! (is that a game spoiler?). Nooooooo. I was shouting 'dont die Jean Luc! ' LOL. My friend has it on the PC and said it doesnt run so bad. I just know my PC wouldn't run it :( The only game I play on my PC is Eve online and I chat on FFN .lol. Thats about it. Glad you like it. its one of the best games ive played for along while. Ive been waiting for it for 3 years and wasnt dissapointed. As you said now all we need is it to be in the Firefly verse :)

lol, I spent most of last year capsuleering 'round EVE Online :) Great game, but I had to pry myself away from the whole MMO thing. Was sucking too much of my time, and I needed a game that I could play for just an hour or two instead of all day long ;p (And I spent so much time getting my Domi fitted just right, too... )

Yeah I got it for PC.

I mean when someone's got an AMD 64 x2 4400+, Nvidia 7800 GTX and 2 gigs of RAM why would they use anything else??

Besides, PC versions always last longer than the console versions... By that I mean mods and such.

I get 60 FPS, though it has trouble outside in the forest because of all the grass particles. But I've seen the Suxbox 360 run it, and it's framerate drops worse tham my PC when it's in the forest. It's just that there's too much Grass.

AND! I even have all my details cranked up (Further than the 360 can do), and my view distance is scaled much further than any suxbox could ever see. I wish I could play at a resolution of 1600x1200 (I'm pretty sure I remember as 1200), which is higher resolution than HDTV (720p or the rare 1080p), but unfortuently Oblivion doesn't let me play that high up, so I'm forced to play at 1280x1024 (which is the highest available, that's HDTV Quality).

The only disadvantage that I know of when playing Oblivion as opposed to the 360 version is that SUPPOSEDLY, as in so I read this on the Elder Scrolls forums a while back, is that on the Xbox you can get HDR+AA. But on the PC if you have HDR enabled, you can't use AA..... Which doesn't make any sense. But doesn't really matter because A) At my resolution, I barely notice any Jaggies, or even at 1280x1024 and B) I never use AA in any game. Because it's just bad performance for not that much more of a plus. I'm not too paranoid about Jaggies.

And as for Oblivion the game being good, not just the technology. Oblivion is better than Morrowind... No doubt about it. Reason being: Fast Travel, and Horses. I'm so glad that I don't have to LITEREALLY WALK EVERYWHERE.

Back in Morrowind you're fatigue would drain JUST FOR RUNNING!!! And you had to run everywhere pretty much. And of course if you're fatigue was 0 you had to walk. That's the only reason why I stopped playing Morrowind.

I have it for PC, and I love it. I have downloaded several mods for it that have made changes to what I consider design flaws, and it is a fantastic experience.

There is so much to do, I love this game!

Clearly Oblivion caught my eye back before 360 was even out. While still happy w/ my old 'Box, I'm still weighing the options as to get the 360 or not. Price isn't such the issue, but stories of glitches and such keep me from pullin' the trigger. But hell, if folks can assure me that 360 has eliminated modders, cheaters, hackers, bridgers, etc.... i'm in!

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

ROFL!

That has got to be the best review of the game and system I have seen yet! I've been waiting to buy one but you've really convinced me to just buy it now.

I was thinking that I would have my GF start the game, so that I'm only helping her with her game if I play...do you think that would have worked for you if you would have been able to design and play your own character from the get go?

I've tried to play a few times but it's hard to play with people who've been gamers since pong was the hot new thing. Also I have terrible hand eye cordination. Maybe if my significant other was willing to just help me play I might consider it again. Plus designing my own charchter sounds kinda neat.

That sounds quite promising for me and my situation. But it does sound like a bit of trouble for you...have you tried just playing by your lonesome? Or telling him how to behave nicely to your beginner gamer skillz...(Sorry I didn't mean to get too personal, but was curious, you can answer however you please (or not))

I got it for 360. It's an amazing game. Not as good as Morrowind, in my opinion, but the best RPG out there right now. Lots of glitches, though.

It's really not worth getting a 360 unless you've got a decent HDTV. Not plasma or LCD, just a good widescreen HDTV. It looks kickass in widescreen.

I had to send my first 360 for repairs. It overheated really bad. Still some bugs with my new one but it doesn't overheat. Honestly, I'm kicking myself for just not upgrading my PC. Oblivion looks I N C R E D I B L E if you have a powerful enough machine.

STEGASAURUS

I have the game for the PC, and I gotta say, I love it. I did, however beat the main quest by level 6, so I feel sorta cheated there. But with all the other quests going on, I still keep playing. I just miss the gates scattered around the countryside.

As a side note, while playing I happened upon the city of Skingrad, and with it's awesome design it got me to thinking...

What about a themepark/hotel where all of the town's buildings/homes are kind of like rentable apartments. And to get there, you park a couple miles away in a secure parking facility and then either ride a horse or carriage in for your stay.

There could be "shops" where you could buy memorabilia or perhaps learn how to actually smith real armor and weapons. Also learn how to fletch, and bow-hunt era style. Obviously there's no need for "quests" or the such as it could make it cheesy, but basically take that town, make it real, and then live life for a period of time just like in the middle ages.

The only exception being in the bedrooms. All the current day accutriments (including showers ) so that people can remain grounded in reality.

Even have the castle arrainged exactly the same, however once a week, have a big ole shindig in the main hall. Those who pay more, get to live in the castle, etc.

Anyways, was a grand idea, if not truely practical. My wife scoured the internet to see if anything like this existed, but found nothing. 'Course the internet is a big place, so she coulda missed something.

But getting back to the game, I really love playing it. It's actually been the first game in 6 years to pull me, albeit temporarily, away from EQ/EQ2. Heh heh...

AT the end of the day people will say 'Oblivion looks better on PC'. Wrong. A top end PC cannot produce the textures, lighting and general overall graphic quality a 360 does. A 360 has an ATI chipset especially built for graphic creation. My friend has a AMD, dual corp, SLI,twin card blah blah blah and it still doesnt look as good as my 360. A PC is a mongrel. Its a calculator with add ons.Its not built for gaming.

However I had a weird problem with my 360.I bought it with Ghost Recon (awesome game), I then bought Oblivion. I played Oblivion for a while but then it was taking ages to load anything, even when i was accesing the inventory it was taking ages. However Ghost Recon Loaded fine. I was about to take it back and decided to reformat the HD. After I reformated, Oblivion was absolutely fine and has been ever since. No problems with the machine at all :)

Don't tell me I'm wrong. It's my opinion that it does look better on a high-end PC. My cousin has a $2100 PC with all the high-end "stuff". I don't know crapola about PC's so I'll just say "stuff" when it comes to processors and graphics cards, etc.

We did a side-by-side comparison. It's my opinion that the graphics are "dumbed-down" on 360. On 360, trees and mountains and rocks pop-up out of nowhere. Skins look ok, but a little weird. Armor doesn't shimmer like it does on PC.

Overall though, it's better to buy a $400 360 than a $2100 PC that you'll just have to upgrade in 6 months. I can live with the tiny graphical flaws of the 360.

You can say you're personal idea of what you think looks best or not. But you can't deny the technology.

The PC architecture is always going to be better than the console's, it always is. And since you mention Ghost Recon, try reading this Preview of Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter, and see what they say about the PC version of GRAW.

You know what, since I don't want you to waste your time, please read what I have brought forward as highlights of the preview:

Quote:

"Along with the story, there is a large similarity in the art style. While the engine is actually completely different for the PC version of the game, players will see very few noticeable differences. Lots of browns, use of blur filters for distance objects, very nice explosion effects, and very lifelike animation are all pretty much the same. Different is the more prolific use of physics for visual effect. As demonstrated in the video entitled "Destruction and Physics", some objects in the world are given more life. Boxes will blow into the air and scatter around and vehicles are way more extensive in the number of parts and level of destruction, and vegetation will flutter around when contacted (see the "Approaching the President's Limo" video for a demonstration of bullets pushing palm leaves around. While it has little impact on the gameplay, it definitely adds to the immersion factor. GRIN is busy implementing Ageia physics as well for those lucky enough to have a physics processor in their system."

+

Quote:

"Players will find that maps are much larger than they were in the 360 version and have been tuned and set-up to support a much more tactical style of gameplay. There'll be more corners to watch, more directions for enemies to come from, and generally more difficult gameplay."

And you can even run most PC games at higher resolution than HDTV quality. Load up Doom 3 for example and check all the available resolutions, they'll be so many you're head will pop off.

This is, of course, just me talking about resolution, number of pixels on the screen, which there are MORE than the xbox360 on HDTV so..... It does look better, or maybe I should say it can since not everyone plays exactly the same on the PC..... Unlike the consoles.

And if you're STILL not convinced, check out http://www.incrysis.com

Crysis is an upcoming PC game that will be using DirectX 10 (DX10), something the xbox360 does not have. It will be available only to Windows Vista users. And the new DX10 video cards should release early next year from nVidia and ATi.

Here's the DX10/PC powered screenshots:
http://media.pc.ign.com/media/694/694190/imgs_1.html

And as for footage. There are currently 2 different footage videos. You can find both of them at this link:
http://incrysis.com/crysis/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1

I can't wait.

EDIT: Oh and if you get this game and you DON'T have DirectX10, then you will get the same game so they're saying, it just won't be all amazing looking.

Ok im gonna have to get all technical now. The 360 uses something called Unified Shaders and has a Xenos graphics engine. What this means is where as your most expensive GFX card (which costs more than a 360) has seperate banks of pixel(material, wood, organic effects, bump mapping etc)and vertex (all the 3D geometric stuff)shaders which do 1 task at a time. The 360 has 48 parrallel shaders which, not just 2, which work dynamicaly on the fly. As a result it can render hair, fur, leather etc better than anything else on the Market. Now I believe ATI have just released a X1900 card which has similar capabilities but to be honest you also need the MoBO, CPU etc etc etc to run it. We are talking money. Oblivion on the 360 is just the tip of the Iceberg. The coders are still learning how to programme using the 360 tecnology. The best is yet to come. Oh by the way GRAW has all the same particle physics as they say in that posted review. I have played it plenty and boxes, leaves etc etc etc all scatter and move when acted upon. So I think that review is factualy incorrect. Don't belive everything you read on the tinternet ;)

My PC is not a games machine. I play Eve online and that's it. I use it for coding, databases, spreadsheets, email and the internet. That is what a PC is intended for.

That's true. It's just a disappointment that it'll probably be 2 years or more before games use all the power of the 360.
