OMEGA SUPREME!!

Also, no one seems to have mentioned Twiki from Buck Rogers or that silly Muffit from the first Battlestar Galactica series. (I know they seem stupid now, but I loved them when I was in 3rd grade when those shows were on.)

Ha! I was wondering when someone was going to say Kryten.

Also, I notice that a lot of people are saying Marvin, which is cool. I've got nothing against Marvin or even Eddie, but what about Colin (Douglas Adam's "Mostly Harmless" the fifth Hitchhiker's book)?

Ford rewires a little security robot to love everything so that he won't attack him. "I gurgle with pleasure!" it keeps saying. He decides to name the little robot Colin. Later, they both end out falling/jumping out a window:

"Colin!" Ford bawled.
Colin didn't respond. Ford went cold. Then he suddenly realised that he hadn't told Colin his name was Colin.
"Come up here!" Ford bawled.
They were still descending, but the rate had slowed.
"Up, Colin!" he shouted.
Nothing.
"Your name," shouted Ford, "is Colin. So when I shout 'Up, Colin!' I want you, Colin, to go up. OK? Up, Colin!"

And I'll go with Sonny too.

What, no one liked AI?

Apparently not. It left me a bit cold.

Never did read "Mostly Harmless" since I was under the impression that it was an unfinished work at the time of Adams' death, and is therefore somewhat "unpolished". You recommend it, then?

But if it is HHGTTG then I can't go past Marvin - the way he talked that Assault Robot into destroying itself with nothing more than depressing talk (Book two??) was priceless.

Cheers,
Johnboy

Nope, Mostly Harmless is done. He said it was his least favorite of the five because he was feeling depressed when he wrote it, but I liked it a lot. If you like the Hitchhiker's characters, you gotta know what happens to them in the end! Yes, I recommend it. I heard it on tape. It was very funny. Perhaps you were thinking of Salmon of Doubt, which was published, but incomplete. That was his third Dirk Gently novel. Dirk has to go investigate what happened to the back half of a half-cat. Too bad we'll never know how it ends.

Ah, yes, you are correct. I was thinking of the Dirk Gently book. The first was so-so, but I liked the second very much.

I'll just have to look up Salmon of Doubt then.

I'd go for Marvin the Paranoid Android from Hitchhiker's Guide. From the books and the new film particularly - Alan Rickman's voice suits him perfectly. He's ace.
I also liked Terminator. It's Arnie. 'Nuff said.

Ok, call me old, or cheesey but I liked:

Old B.O.B. and VinC.E.N.T. from the Black Hole. Maximillian was downright nasty.

Twiki from the first Buck Rogers Season.

K9 from Dr. Who.

And of course R2D2 and C3P0.

I am so with you on that one. Prime is THE 'BOT.

I love "The Touch". I managed to find the soundtrack on CD a few years back.

And I think possibly the biggest laugh I had in the 90's was when the store I was working at put on the Boogie Nights soundtrack, before I had seen the movie. When Marky Mark started his redition of "The Touch", I literally fell on the floor laughing.

Thank you CS,

1812 has got to be amongst the best little metal space bugs ever to be always getting himself in the s***.

My two favorite robots are:
1)Robby the Robot from the movie "Forbidden Planet" who also guested on an episode of "Lost in Space"
2) Gort from the movie "The day the Earth stood still"
and to the person who mentioned Rhomy of "Andromeda" played by Lexia Doig- you're right she was very good too!

I'd have to say Dog from Halflife 2 if for no other reason than no one has mentioned him yet, and the fact that he can kick some serious arse. Other than that I'd have to go with Bender and the bots from MST3k. I like my bots with a sense of humor ;)

Ironically enough I'm an ABC warrior.
"ABC Warrior!

In bars frequented by colossal death robots, you're always the quiet guy at the back who no-one ever bothers. And for good reason. You've fought in several nuclear wars, could beat the sun in a staring match, and have a chin larger than many articles of furniture. Morals are not a concept you understand, but strangely enough, nobody ever questions your judgement. Usually because they're dead. Even Judge Dredd wets himself when you turn up. Grrrr."

eh kinda fits my personality actually, I'm one of the speak softly and carry a big stick types.

3. Muffit (the Original BSG)
4. K-9 (Doctor Who)
5. The original Cylons (By your command)
6. Number 6 (who is really a 10)
7. Robot from Lost in Space
8. Data (but not movie Data)
9. Vincent and Bob ('The Black Hole'...always had a soft spot for poor old Bob.)

Most of you probably don't know this one, but my favorite is the Maria Robot from Fritz Lang's "Metropolis." Her metallic form is said to be the inspiration for C-3P0, and her android form was just creepy.

By the way, EVERYONE should see "Metropolis" (1927?) -- it's a very cool, very classic movie.

Apparently K9's getting his own series!

http://www.gallifreyone.com/news.php#newsitemEEuVlAEVVyGhyInyMp

Quote:

In a rather unsurprising development to anyone who has followed the trail of rumors - first reported on Outpost Gallifrey, in fact, nearly two years ago - K9 will feature in a new animated spinoff series worked on by one of his creators, Bob Baker, and made by Jetix Europe. "Doctor Who's faithful robotic assistant, who will be reunited with his master on Saturday in a special guest appearance on the revived BBC show, will become a star in his own right -- equipped with a lethal blaster -- in a computergenerated series made in partnership with the Walt Disney Corporation. K9 Adventures will be a 26-episode comedy-fantasy series set in outer space. The new-look K9 is a galactic crime-fighter -- far removed from the underpowered pup given to Tom Baker in 1977. Bob Baker, co-creator of the robot dog, promises to give his pet 'a sleek new look using state of the art CGI animation mixed with live action'.

Check the new look.
