I saw this and a chill ran through me.

My favorite sci-fi TV show of all time was killed by a mainstream network after a meer half season. Shall this be the fate of BG? It's doing fine on Sci-fi. Perhaps things should be left well enough alone.

Do not fear me. Ours is a peaceful race, and we must live in harmony.

Now here's a thought: Run them on both channels at different times! I know I'd love to be able to get the show way more than once!

IMPERATODD

I am sure the network will tone it down if it does air on NBC. The things is it is a little dramatic, maybe too dramtic for the whole line up that NBC will surely try to pedle to the masses. But maybe, I am curious to see what happens to the series from that ending I just hope for those hard core fans it doesn't go all Andromeda on you. For those who were Andromeda fans I am sure you what I mean. Also I hate Baltar he is a waste of carbon and for those of you who know how abundant carbon is understand how bad of a person he is.

I'm going to cry if they do. Its the only gorram show i watch on TV. Plus i think Sci-Fi would be retarded to sell it... look what we did for firefly, imagine if we took that power and harnessed for the power of evil?

SciFi wouldn't be selling the show. NBC owns SciFi already.

Even if it does move, I doubt it'll change that much. The reason they're even looking at it is it's working really well as is. And if they did snatch it, and ratings were lower than they'd like, it'd probably just pop back to SciFi where it's doing just fine.

DUG

Allow me to be the first to say good.

Good for the mainstream acceptance of a great scifi show.

Good for the exposure to a larger audience. Remember, cable penetration is nowhere near 100%, and scifi is a niche network even on cable.

And good for me because I'm one of those who don't have cable. I see no reason to shell out the money for it when the only thing I want is Galactica. At $1.99 on I-tunes it's been cheaper to watch that way than to get a dish. This will just let me see it on a bigger screen. I don't know that they will need to clean it up any; CSI already shows the complete de-fleshiong of a corpse. Law and Order SVU covers about as hardcore topics as you can possibly find.

Good points, dug.

I have cable, but only basic, so I've been catching BSG eps on DVD (which means I've still only seen 1/2 of season 2). I very much like the idea of being able to watch them new, and not spend several months dodging spoilers.

SINGATE

It has already been pointed out that NBC owns Sci-Fi. I know that at least once the new BSG aired on NBC. They also are responsible for the show Surface. Since reruns of that show have turned up several times on Sci-Fi I have to think it's just a matter of them spreading their products around to as wide an audience as possible. There would be no real reason to permanently move BSG unless they honestly believe there were a lot of people who would watch but can't because they do not have the Sci-Fi channel. That scenario seems rather unlikely.

Yeah, I think this would just be an experiment to see if they can snag a larger audience for the show. It's doing well on Sci-Fi and has the potential to do better on NBC. Afterall, this isn't your typical sci-fi show. More of a drama set in space. So hopefully they can catch mainstream viewers by moving the show to NBC.

Of course, success on NBC depends on if mainstream viewers are okay with not being able to vote anyone off of Galactica.

I wish I had your confidence in this. I keep thinking of how every time a UK show gets imported to the US it loses 30 IQ points and gets set in New York City even if the original took place in the remote countryside.

Well, maybe not ALL of them. And even though BSG is a U.S. show to begin with - I assume - but I'm afraid the equivalent could happen to it on the migration from cable to network. Or worse -

This week - viewers call in to choose whether Boomer or Tigh gets thrown off the Galactica!
(on edit I see Sadlittleking was ahead of me here. Heh.)

Just because something is successful as-is doesn't mean some empty suit won't poo all over it trying to make it "better". In fact I'd imagine success makes that more of a risk, since the execs would like to take credit for it and, therefore, scent-mark it.
