I don't know why, but every time I see this replayed on t.v., I must watch!

What's wrong w/ me ?

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

Same thing that's wrong with me, apparently. Doesn't matter, everything's green.

Because the movie is freakin awesome. I think it is amazing well writted and has a unique sense of humor. I really don't like Chris Tucker, in that movie he fits. It has Lelu and she is hot and naked. It has to be one of the best Sci Fi movies ever (except Serenity.) So it not any where near a guilty pleasure. A guilty pleasure is something you are embarassed by. I don't the The 5th Element fits that description.

Operative: "Its worse than you know..." Mal: "It usually is."

I'm the same way, I even have my own copy of it and I still watch it when I see its on. I'm not a Bruce Willis fan,....this is the only movie he's done that I like. IMHO its a great story,(doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator) its a great action flick,...has a love story,...and the hero is an ordinary guy, so we relate to him. Hell,...the've even got his Mother bugging him just like normal Moms. And there's comedy to keep it from getting slow.

...it's worst than you know...Operative
...it usually is.....Mal

The fifth element isn't a guilty pleasure, it's just a pleasure. That movie is great sci-fi.

Chick-an. Good!

Oh,and here I was under the impression that TFE wasn't viewed by many as being that good of a SciFi flick. Almost never do I see it mentioned. I never mistook it to be in the list of greats , but it is fun to watch.

Correction noted. Thanks, y'all

It is a fantastic movie. I own it too. It is over the top, funny and goofy. In my view, the movie just wants to be outrageous and that is exactly what it is. I think it is incredbily entertaining. One of my favorite science fiction movies. I absolutely love the part where General Munro is trying to recruit Korben for the mission to get the stones and he stuffs them into the fridge. HI-larious.

I don't know what it is about this movie. The first time I saw it, was because my best friend and filmmaking partner had worked on the FX team, and had built models of Corbin's cab and the police cars. The first time I saw it, I thought it was good, but not great. Then, when it came out on DVD, I bought it and watched it again, and enjoyed it even more. Since then I've watched it dozens of times, and think it's one of the best sci-fi movies in my collection. It's definitely in my Top 10!

Funny how it just grows on you, but it does. Besson fills each frame with so much detail, that each time I watch it, I see something new.

Luc Besson is one of my favorite directors, and The 5th Element is one of three great films he made that I highly recommend! The other two, obviously, are "LaFemme Nikita" (not to be confused with the series or the lame US remake "Point of no Return"), and Leon, The Professional".

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

It's not a guilty pleasure. You should be proud you like 5th Element. For me, I love it. It's got great camera/lighting work, costume design, story and character design. The two people who did it do French comics and I believe whoever had their hand in Leon (aka The Professional). I must note that that's a brillant film. It's just *sighs* great. Plus, Natalie Portman and Gary Oldman are in it which is a hoot ^_^. I feel that the artwork was Will Eisner amazing level for me actually.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies, mainly because it's not your typical scifi movies. What other one has a gorgeous opera in the middle, followed by kick-ass fighting? That scene is what hooked me on to it. However, whenever it's on TNT, they always cut stuff out (ie Leeloo kicking a bad guy in the crotch). Good thing I have it on dvd!

No power in the 'verse can stop me!

Not a guilty pleasure, a necessity in your collection. Guilty pleasure would be Death Becomes Her (another Willis flick) or Popeye. Yes, I did say Popeye.... and many others I cannot name.

If you like TFE, you should get the Superbit or the recent new version (also a superbit, if I understand correctly); the original release on DVD was astounding; the superbit goes a mite farther, detail-wise.

I watch it often...

To quit is my goal Chrisisall

This is a great movie that has a little bit of everything. Humor, action, great performances, interesting story, killer soundtrack, great pacing and effects. And most importantly, as mentioned above, it gets better the more you watch it.

De-lurking to revive two threads in one sitting.

Flying on duct tape and a damaged registry.

For us, The Fifth Element was marketed wrong. We expected a strictly serious and perhaps weird movie; instead, we got "The Fifth Element" in a theater that was so cold (even in the middle of summer) that it gave us shivers and a headaches! HOWEVER...

Some friends wanted to see it really bad so we humored them and went. We went into it with more neutral expectations, long pants, and sweaters. It was great! Gary Oldman... SNORT!

Now let's see... Ruby Rod... Jar Jar... Ruby Rod... Jar Jar... which is more annoying? Perhaps a thread for another time.

Holy God! This could be the thread to end all threads. Two of the most annoying characters in movie history. As much as I hated Jar Jar the first time I saw TPM I'll give the nod to Ruby. At least I've learned to tune out Jar Jar whenever I feel the need to watch scenes he is in. Chris Tucker on the other hand is one of the most annoying actors to ever appear on film. On top of that his character, Ruby Rod, enables him to raise the bar to a nearly untouchable level when it comes to working my nerves. Still hoping for a special edition where Gary Oldman shoots him right in the face with one of those big ass guns.

MAGHAFFAR

Fifth Element was a pic I was told to go see, I rented it & thought the opening FX were so hokey (the Egypt in 1914 stuff) when teh aliens show up that I turned it off. Then later I re-rented it and watched past the Egypt scene and went "Wow!" this is really cool looking. Definitely on my "watch often" list for many of the same reasons as Firefly / BDM... it's about human emnotions -- the need for love, the ultimate power of love to previal against evil. Gets me every time. And so many great quirky scenes. Love the scene with the druggie trying to hold up Corbin with the cheesey empty hallway pic on the forehead. That guy shoulda got an award for that little piece of acting. "Keep it. I don't need it" while he does the shakey dance. That and the "Anyway else wanna negotiate?" that's a mal line if there ever was one.
And the Gary Oldman stuff is truly great -- he makes such a great bad guy. Love his line after the deal goes bad with the lizard guys. "Now a true warrior, a real killer, would have immediately asked about the little red button on the bottom of the gun..." Ka-boom!
Gotta get the rerelease special edition to upgrade my collection.

My all-time favorite SF movie. Yes, I said it, even more than the BDM. With the BDM I'm loving it because of the history and the series and the jossiness, but it does drag a bit sometimes.

I adore TFE. Everytime I happen upon it while channelsurfing, I drop everything to watch it - even though I own it in both VHS and DVD. So go ahead, shoot me!
