I stopped watching Andromeda after Tribune got rid of RHW. I'm still pissed about that. If there's a company worst than FOX, it's Tribune.

From SCIFI.COM:

Cobb Quits Andromeda

The Sci-Fi Talk Web site reported that Keith Hamilton Cobb will leave the syndicated SF series Andromeda, where he plays the Nietzschean Tyr Anasazi. Cobb said he was joining castmate Brent Stait (Rem) and former executive producer Robert Hewitt Wolfe, both of whom left the show a while back, the site reported.

"I know that the American fan base, as expressed online, seems rather displeased with the developments of the third season," Cobb said. "My own personal opinion as far as my character, that it's always been somewhat lacking and has only gotten worse. So I had not planned to do a fourth season for that reason."

Cobb said that he will appear in four episodes of a fourth season, if the producers want him.

Without trying to sound too positive about this....

I think its good that the people are starting to recognize the show isn't what it was(not due to the actors, at least nothing major is their fault outside of Sorbo possibly, executive producer). Prehaps with an actor leaving they'll finally get it through their thick skulls they lost their fanbase mostly?

Oh, and don't be negative about the season 1 story arc, first seasons of a TV show almost NEVER have major story arcs, especially a syndicated show. They were starting to get a pretty good one(MWS) season 2, but that fell through, for obvious reasons.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I thought the Tyr character was quite cool the first season and a half or so, but especially recently, he's just screwed up really bad(not the actors fault!). He's not a neit at all anymore, that sucks.

it's true. even Babylon 5 had to reboot for 2nd season. Andromeda did have initial cultivation of an arc in 1st/2nd seasons. they planted it, gave it some water, but they forgot to fertilize, so it didn't grow. so many things they could have done that they copped out on is what's killed this show. it had so much potential, and now it's been reduced to war scene/harper quip of the week.

they didn't forget to fertilize...they kicked out the writer, and let Sorbo have an exec producer credit. And he decided to make it more episodic and get rid of the arc. Abysmal it became.

so they kicked out the guy with the fertilizer--same dif.

can't build decent sci-fi on special effects alone, can you?

You can't build any show on Andromeda quality special effects!

Not to blame the people behind them though, I know they have a relatively low budget, and they've pulled off some pretty cool effects.(that blackhole time advance in the first ep and some other things like that come to mind)

exactly. if they had been able to keep up that quality of work in their writing, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Most devastating for the upcoming fourth season of "Andromeda" are the changes in the writing staff.

Between them, Matt Kiene, Joe Reinekemeyer, Ashley Edward Miller, and Zack Stentz have written 31 of the 60 episodes broadcast to date, including such fan favorites as "D Minus Zero," "The Mathematics of Tears," "Una Salas Victus," and "The Lone and Level Sands."

Heck, Ash and Zack used to write battle simulations for the freakin' Pentagon, for cryin out loud. They brainstormed all of the Andromeda backstory and technology, along with Robert Wolfe.

None of these guys will be back for the fourth season. Ash and Zack are now working for UPN's Twilight Zone.

Quite pessimistic about the writing of the show next season, now that the four brightest minds on the writing staff are no longer with Andromeda.

I never could understand Tribune's need to fix a series that isn't broken. It's like Tribune's "Earth: Final Conflict" all over again. They sure made a big mess out of that series.

ADV Films Inc. has just acquired the DVD rights to the first three seasons of Earth Final Conflict. Jeez, that was a show that seemed to re-invent itself each season, and not always to its benefit. What a creative quagmire. Can't wait to hear an audio commentary from the cast and crew on that one!

Why the constant "dumbing-down" of Tribune shows? I think Tribune's problem is their insistence that all of their sci-fi shows appeal not only to a core of literate sci-fi fans but to a broader non-skiffy audience as well, which Tribune seems to regard as a bunch of furry knuckle-walkers. Their contempt for the intelligence of their viewers always amazes me.

By the way, does anyone know a site that has a like week by week ratings report?(doesn't have to be too recent) Or does that cost money to get access to?

I would be interested to see how the ratings have done, I know at least in the US they haven't improved.

Zap2it.com has ratings for free. i can't recall how extensive at the moment, but it's a place to start.

Just out of curiosity, what happened in the end of earth final conflict?

And I'm getting out of this that it would be useless for me to try and figure out when andromida is on and watch it again, right?

By the way, I think the not good untill season two is almost science, thats why I was amazed by firefly, it was good from the start.

So the canceled it, guess that means you got to suck in season one to stay on the air.

Hmmm, I was just thinking of a counter-example to that. I'll give you three guesses.

I just watched Ariel again. That final scene with Simon and his sister -- "No, mei mei, time to wake up." (not to mention the scene with Jayne in the airlock) Damn... I almost cried and I've seen that episode five times at least. sigh... even the tv episodes of this show are better than most movie fare out there. Maybe we should send postcards to Universal......

Man... I haven't watched Andromeda since the end of season 2... which I only watched till the end out of loyalty and lingering hope... I saw the season 3 premier and said "screw it".

But... I do get nostalgic... *sigh* I remember the good old days of the SlipstreamBBS... Zack and Ash, my old Tyrant pride, the top ten list contests, the Fellowship of the Spork with the Sporklancers and our mounts of cheese and the war of the armadillos and snow Koalas, Maryavatar, Lil, Rov, FMD, Entranced and Bossy... It's probably a good thing it closed, it was getting pretty bad... but god do I miss that place back when it was good.

Did Zack or Ash mentioned what really went on behind the scenes after RHW left?

Poor guys, Twilight Zone just got cancelled so I guess they're out of the job again.

I wish I'd seen this post earlier(X's)

Oh well, think of buffy season 1. Did it have a huge storyline? No, it had about 3-5 episodes(I forget) of a real storyline with the rest being random episodes. Andromeda was no different.

Oh well, its screwed now, so it really doesn't matter.

Greed.

Because television execs are always thinking that there's another "it" show out there that'll generate more income in the same timeslot. And till they find it, they're going to mess with the existing one to maximize profit. More often than not, all that tinkering will mess up a series.

Yeah, I feel so bad when I think of the good andromeda eps.

One of my dad's favorite was All too Human(that one where rommie goes off on her own), but there were a bunch of good ones early on. Like the season 1 finisher + season 2 start. Oh well...just remember this if you're ever in any similar position. Get rid of the thing entirely or leave it alone! As annoying as a cancelation is, its better than a retooling.
