About Red Dwarf.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Dwarf

As for favorite episode...that is hard to say. I do have some very favorite bits however. The best one was when a news feed finally caught up to the ship and there was a news broadcast about finding a missing page in the bible....here is the broadcast...

"Good evening. Here is the news on Friday, the 27th of Geldof. Archeologists near Mount Sinai have discovered what is believed to be a missing page from the Bible. The page is currently being carbon-dated in Bonne. If genuine, it belongs at the beginning of the Bible and is believed to read, "To my darling Candy. All characters portrayed within this book are fictitious and any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental." The page has been universally condemned by church leaders. "

My fav. epiosode is White Hole, hands down. "His name was Gilbert, but he preferred it if people called him 'Rameses Niblick the Third, Kerplunk Kerplunk, WHOOPS, Where's My Thribble.'"

Perfect way of explaining it.

I haven't lived anywhere where I can see Red Dwarf on tv in 'bout 8 years, and don't have them on dvd. I so miss it.

Don't know the name of my fav episode, but I'm sure someone here can fill in the gaps in my memory... The backward episode, specifically because Santa is a bastard that breaks into your house and steals all the kids toys.

Backwards . Season 3 episode 1. Has the Star Wars text at the beginning, you can't read it on the episode unless you freeze frame it, so not having the DVD's you might of missed it, it says:
Quote:

Three million years in the future, Dave Lister, the last human being alive, discovers he is pregnant after a liaison with his female self in a parallel universe. His pregnancy concludes with the successful delivery of twin boys, Jim and Bexley. However, because the boys were conceived in another universe, with different physical laws, they suffer from highly accelerated growth rates and are both eighteen years old within three days of being born. In order to save their lives, Lister returns
them to the universe of their origin, where they are reunited with their father (a woman), and are able to lead comparatively normal lives. Well, as normal as you can be if you've been born in a parallel universe and your father's a woman and your mother's a man and you're eighteen years old three days after your birth. Shortly afterward, Kryten, the service mechanoid, who had left the ship after being rescued from his own crashed vessel, the Nova 5, is found in pieces after his space bike crashed into an asteroid. Lister rebuilds the 'noid, but is unable to recapture his former personality. Meanwhile, Holly, the increasingly erratic computer, performs a head sex change operation on himself. He bases his new face on Hilly, a female computer with whom he'd once fallen madly in love.

My favourite scene of that episode is the opening one, where Lister and the Cat are talking about the Flintstones.

LISTER: Cat?
CAT: Mmm?
LISTER: Ya ever see the Flintstones?
CAT: Sure!
LISTER: D'ya think Wilma's sexy?
CAT: Wilma Flintstone?
LISTER: Maybe we've been alone in deep space too long, but every time I see that sharmi body, it drives me crazy. Is it me?
CAT: Well, I think in all probability, Wilma Flintstone is the most desirable woman that ever lived.
LISTER: That's good. I thought I was goin' strange.
CAT: She's incredible!
LISTER: What d'ya think of Betty?
CAT: Betty Rubble? (Pause) Well, I would go with Betty... but I'd be thinking of Wilma.
LISTER: This is crazy. Why are we talking about going to bed with Wilma Flintstone?
CAT: You're right. We're nuts. This is an insane conversation.
LISTER: She'll never leave Fred, and we know it.

Hi-larious!

I am a massive Dwarf fan. 1 of the best comedies UK has produced. Rob Grant and Doug Naylor are geniuses. I am still waiting for the Red Dwarf movie. There has been rumours of it in the pipeline since season 5. Keeping the original cast and being made in New Zealand.

I've watched the american pilot of Red Dwarf and it is truely dreadful. Don't get me wrong I am not insulting the americans because 2 of my favourite sitcoms are Seinfeld and Curb your Enthusiasm I think Larry David is brilliant. However Red Dwarf is built on characters. So you cannot take it and remove all the characters, except for 1 (Kryten) and expect it to work. Us brits could not take the template for Seinfeld, leave Kramer in and remove all the other characters and expect it to work. To be honest It's not an American thing it's just a greedy TV executive thing. They see a show pulls in the viewers in a country and just want to replicate that. A big audience equals big income.

As an American, I say go ahead and insult the Americans. Let us not forget that this is the land with < 1 season of Firefly and multiple seasons of Fear Factor. For that and many reasons, if the rest of the world isn't insulting us at present, I start to worry.

I'm very glad this is the first I've heard of an American go at Red Dwarf. I got to sail right past that one without weeping.
