I just read this over at rottentomatoes.com, and it says that FOX is wanting to bring back Futurama due to strong re-runs and DVD sales. As much as I love that show, WHAT ABOUT FIREFLY!?!?!?!

This news could be good news for us Browncoats though, as Firefly and Serenity have brand new fans because of the DVD.

Read it here:

That's awesome news, if it actually pans out...

If it happened for Family Guy and it happens for Futurama, I see no reason why it couldn't happen for Firefly...

Must be something about Fox shows that begin with the letter F. Fox begins with the letter F too. Hmmm...correlations? This must be investigated...

Fox is slowly learning the error of their ways. Even if they don't pick Firefly back up, I would love to at least see it on Sci-Fi.

Now, if the head of Showtime would get fired and Dead Like Me back on, I will be happy for the rest of my days.

Hmmm, hopefully this bodes well for us.

But, at the very least, more Futurama is always shiny. I may be labelled a blasphemer for this, but I always found it funnier than the Simpsons. That Star Trek episode was downright brilliant.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

It will really always boil down to dollars. Futurama and Family guy have the popularity and support needed to make enough money more than production costs to make it worthwhile. If Firefly looks the same, it will happen.

Remember though, live action costs a lot more than animation. And science fiction is expensive due to the fx and the specialised sets...you can't just rent out an office to be an office; it has to be a sp-office (space office to the noobs).

Firefly has the rep of costing 2 million an episode. IIRC, this is inflated due to the 2 hour pilot not airing originally and its 10 million dollar budget being amortized over the rest of season 1 and only. Even without that inflation that's a lot more than the cost of an animated half hour.

Ya, Futurama is a lot funnier than MORE RECENT Simpson's episodes. It can't beat the old stuff though (Season 3 to 6) of The Simpson's.

On another note:

BRING BACK FIREFLY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I liked Futurama more anyway. I usually say 'Bite My Shiny Metal Ass' more than any slogan made on the Simpsons.

And I'm watching that episode right now.

Hmmm, perhaps a new slogan is in order.

"Watch Firefly! It's highly addictive!"

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

Another factor: your average college student is more likely to sit down and watch a funny, 30 minute cartoon than they are to sit down and watch a brilliantly produced, funny as hell, hour-long sci-fi show.

We gotta start hooking more college students. I bet if we tried hard enough, every fratboy in America will be quoting Jayne by the end of the year.

I don't know about that. Firefly is pretty popular at my college. I was walking across campus with the set in hand and had several folks comment on the shininess within about a five minute timespan.

But I agree, Jayne might just be the patron saint of frat boys. Hard drinkin', hard fightin', never kiss 'em in the mouth.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal, Fox!

I started a Browncoat group for my college on Facebook. That doesn't really go towards promoting it, but hey, at least we know we're not alone.

I probably like Futurama more than the Simpsons too; not enough for me to start bashing the Simpsons, but Futurama just seemed more creative. I'd be overjoyed to see Futurama back.
Glad I'm not the only one that noticed FOX's habit of cancelling great shows that start with "F" :P
I don't think the odds of bringing Firefly back to FOX are very good, but I'd still love to see our crew back in some form.

That's excellent news! I love Futurama!!!

I only hope that Fox won't ignore Firefly in the process.
