Who's getting The Fantastic Four on tuesday. 12/6?
I haven't seen it, but I think I'll buy it, I hear it said it's pretty good.

Important people don't do field work.

Cough..Cough...

COUGH HACK...COUGH... CRAP!....cough...cough..

But, I ain't one to gossip, so you didn't hear that from me...

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Shirlry you jest, Manwithpez?
It's got Dark Angel herself in it! It can't suck that bad.
Can it?

If the second season of Dark Angel sucked, I am sure Fantastic Four could. I didn't see it though, so I don't know.

Second season didn't suck, it just had a severe change in tone (Okay, there were a couple of quality-challenged episodes, I'll admit).
But the last ep was fantastic!

I'm getting very good at figuring out which topics are yours.

I didn't see it, but I friend who's opinion I trust didn't like it (in spite of JA's tight costume). It's wasn't well-reviewed, if that means anything to you.

I want to judge for myself and as always I suggest you do the same.

It's gotta be better than the Roger Corman one made about 10 years or so ago. But at least it was so bad it was funny.

"Take the movie on its own lighthearted terms and, chances are, you'll be taken in."
-- Eleanor Ringel Gillespie, ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION

"This clumsy, cheesy, chintzy adaptation, with its F/X that look dated the moment you see them, is like something left over from the '60s, the heyday of Marvel's longest-running series."
-- Owen Gleiberman, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

I dunno sounds like a fun cheesefest to me. It can't be all bad, it might be that it suffers from comparison to the likes of Batman Begins. Someone I know said it was "pretty good, and not stupid, like most super-hero movies" (She HATED Daredevil).

Only recommendation that I can make, Chrisisall, is that my brother took my Mom to it when it came out and she said it was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good.

For your reference... she says " Serenity" is the best scifi movie she's ever seen!

My Mom's two cents...

"I've been sane a while now and change is good."

Thanks, that's a good sign.
All I'm lookin' to get out of Fantastic Four is a little fun, not another 'Serenity'.
(But that would be shiny...)

Well, since I thought the trailers looked pretty lame, I avoided it at the cinema. However, the general concensus from friends who've seen it is: Not terrible, but pretty weak in general. It seems the more familliar someone is with the source material (the comic), the less they liked the movie.

Plus, the changes they made to Dr. Doom, are IMO, lame.

"Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle."

As a serious fan of Daredevil, I kinda disliked the film. Not a biggie of Fantastic Four, so the changes from the comic in the movie won't bother me in the least.

I liked it.

The best actor is Michael Chiklis as The Thing (not really surprising though, considering how much the script gave him to work with).

The Ben/Johnny feud was comedy gold (I especially love the scene where the Thing makes breakfast, and is just about to eat when Johnny comes in and, well, you'll see).

Pardon the pun, but:
Fanstastic Four is fantastic!

I thought it was the best movie of the summer.
It is true to the spirit of the comic. And could very well be the funniest comic movie ever.
The chemistry between the 4 is excellent.

"A funky, fun film version of the famous Marvel superhero concoction." Washington Post

"A popcorn popper, a cinematic sugar buzz. And blessedly so." Orlando Sentinel

"At their best, the results have a comic zip that the X-Men pictures have largely lacked." L.A. Weekly

FYI - for those buying the DVD, Best Buy is going to have a special F4 set will all kinds of extras.

As someone utterly unbothered by how "faithful" it was to the comics, I've got to say it was pretty average. A few good moments but some bad ones as well. Plus they didn't know how to end it with a bang either.

It never made me feel like walking out when I watched it. But then again, given that I saw it on an airplane at 30,000 feet, that's not too surprising.

I liked it. It as entertaining, but I wouldn’t buy it, unless I could get it cheap. I don’t think I could get $20 or even $16 worth out of it. Jessica Alba is the only one worth mentioning and the only quasi-big name in the film. She’s played for all her sex appeal, at one time stripping almost naked in public in a cheesy, but not untactful, attempt to flash some skin. Her acting is typical Alba. When she’s pouty she’s good, otherwise it's pretty wooden, and her relationship with her Husband is so poorly acted and written that they come across more as brother and sister. It tried to stray from the comic book clichés a little by developing the conflict between the main characters, but this wasn’t enough to save it and it seems to have been done at the expense of the real bad guy, who comes across less then sinister. In the end they all learn to live together with their new found powers and the bad guy whom the audience probably couldn’t care less about gets foiled.

This movie needed to have the PG-13 rating dropped to a PG and a more sinister bad guy. It might have made a good children’s flick.

Incidentally, I went to see Aeon Flux the other night. It suffered from the same thin plot as the animated version, and unlike Fantastic Four could have used a much darker and more violent story. Charlize Theron was about as good as one could expect. I don’t think the limitations of the character were her fault.

I bought it, I saw it, and I enjoyed the HELL out of it!
Flawed? Yes. But fun! Definitly worth my $15.
(Here's the part where people can yell at me...)
It might not be a better film than X2, but I enjoyed it a whole lot more!

I really liked it. But then, I was completely unfamiliar with the comic and I adore Chris Evans. So that probably upped my enjoyment level.

I liked the way their powers reflected their lives; Sue felt that Reed couldn't 'see' her, Reed was always 'stretching' things to see the positive outcome for humanity, Ben wasn't loved by Deb for his true self, and his change forced him to find his real love, Johnny was a hothead, always pushing the envelope (playing with fire, as it were), and Victor had a heart cold as steele.
And boy was it just plain funny at times!

Fantastic Four was one of the better comic adaptions, IMHO!

Well... actually NOT that long, I lol'd in Serenity now that I think on it.
But, a more fun film- I cant remember...
Maybe Jackie Chan's Medallion, but even that wasn't AS fun as Fantastic Four.

Finn, how was it not a good children's flick? With just a few touches of the fast-foward, I think my six year old son would really love it!

And where was the '13' necessary after the PG? The Empire Strikes Back had sterner stuff in it IMO.

Exactly, I think you’ve answered your own question, not to put too fine a point on it. I think it would have been a movie that would have really connected with a younger audience, had they tweaked it a little bit to get rid of some of the adult content. Not that there was a lot of adult content, but what there was did not serve to make the film better, it just confined its audience. I can't think of any examples right now. It's been a while since I've seen it, but that was my impression at the time, so I'm sure there was something in the movie that made me think that.

I think they’re making the same mistake with the Harry Potter movies. The last one I saw was so visually frightening it was like a horror film.

The Empire Strikes should have been PG-13. It wasn’t because that rating didn’t exist at the time, but I can remember the effect that movie had on me, and I was 12 or 13 when I saw it. It was really a very dark movie for a child.
