Any interest in a fansite for this?

"Miracles" (ABC)

Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, the Vatican actively investigates miracles. The majority of these turn out to be hoaxes, but when a young Vatican investigator, played by Skeet Ulrich, finds himself in the middle of something quite real, it leads him into a world of underground investigations balancing faith and the paranormal.

Conceived by Richard Hatem ("The Mothman Prophecies") and co-written and produced by David Greenwalt, who undertook the same duties on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," the show aspires to take a dark though sometimes humorous look into a world where too often the unexplainable happens.

"One of the ideas the show advances is the notion that if what you believe on Sunday morning in church actually started happening on Tuesday afternoon, it would scare the living bejesus out of you," Greenwalt says.

With a cast including Ulrich and Hector Elizondo, the network has ordered 12 episodes of the show and plans to introduce it midseason. Greenwalt credits "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon for making it possible for shows like "Miracles" to even be considered by the networks. Still, Greenwalt aspires to more subtly tread the worlds of reality and science fiction -- saying there will be no monsters wearing rubber masks on ABC.

The show's darker nature and unconventional backdrop did elicit some concerns at the highest levels of Disney, though Greenwalt says the show's Vatican connections weren't the network's prime concern. "I think they were a little more worried about us sticking a syringe in someone's eye within the first 30 seconds."

Episode List:

1-1. The Ferguson Syndrome
1-2. The Friendly Skies
1-3. unknown
1-4. unknown
1-5. Who's Your Daddy?
1-6. Battle at Shadow Ridge
1-7. Mr. Friendly
1-8. Hand of God
1-9. White Shark
1-10. The Bone Collector

Haken,

I'd fully support a Miracles website. I'm looking forward to the show. And I hope we hear from Tim soon with good news about Firefly.

Yes I would be interested. With Alias,Miracles and Veritas on the way I am thinking at least ABC is trying to break the mold of genre TV. Unlike FOX.

And with David G at the helm I know that the show could be a winner if ABC gives it the time to grow. That's the big IF though. A fansite would be a cool place to hang.

Of course ABC has a way better history of supporting shows "Once and again" then most nets.

I think the premise for this religious story sounds terrible. I don't want a god story.

Maybe David will make it good, though.

well I do wish there would be more info out about the series but I don't think it is touched by an angel with evilier bad guys.

It may be a "god" show but I don't think it's going to be all hunky dory. Plus knowing David G.'s Profit and Angel stuff I have a feeling the Vatican will not be this "totally" angelic group and there will be some rumblings that will show corruption and backstabbing in the church. If ABC lets them explore it that will be a bit controversal. For that alone a God story may be worth it to see the relationship of Church,god and good,evil a person questioning his faith etc etc. The ever present questions of stripping down good and evil and the nature of someone's beliefs. At least that's what I'm hoping from the show but who knows.

wow, saw the premiere of miracles, and was fully impressed by it from beginning to end. in fact, when bad dave drove off, i actually stood and opera-clapped.

just googled it to see what others insta-fans might be saying now, and also, to see how much may have been said by the fanticipators prior to actually seeing it.

i stumbled across this thread, and i'm so glad i did, cuz as soon as the show ended, i thought, wow- this is definitely fodder for a cool, obsessive fansite! unfortunately, while i have the know-how to undertake such an endeavor, i have neither the time, nor after too long in the computer biz, the arms for it. (shorthand: lazy gimp!)

anyhoo, this brings me to the point of this late-night, 420-assisted rambling, which is this: in my self-centered, ego-centric humbleness, i think i have already coined the absolute perfect name for such a site. are you ready? wait for it...

MiracleWhipped

am i insane, or does that KICK ASS? i just checked go-daddy, and miraclewhipped.com is available! anywone who likes it and will put in the time to make a good site for this show (however long it lasts- sigh) is welcome to it. i just ask for a little shout-out on the site for coming up with the name.

and if i'm wrong, and it's totally lame, please let me know before i start telling a whole bunch of people, willyew?

cd

ps: since this is a firefly site, i should mention that while i found it a bit difficult to commit to at first, i watch buffy and angel religiously and pretty much feel that joss whedon, and anyone he ever chose to associate with him, are pretty much the hyperbolic recreation of jesus and his scoobies. (ironically, the thing that turned it around for me, and got me fireflying? 'serenity,' which fox didn't deem worthy enough to kick off the series with. idiots! )

With high maintenance, comes high reward!"

BELIEVER

hello all..
waited not-so-patiently for Miracles to finally apppear and really enjoyed the premiere... so much so, I found this place. couldn't find miralclewhipped.com yet. couple comments to add to the stream...

*could be great as a vatican investigator of miracles (like I thought it would be).
I believe in miracles
the vatican is probably a great setting, probably full of intrigue and the like.
I like that he's not a priest
*not sure it is shaping up like that though.. here is why...
the guy at the end seems like evil.. remember his face and the evil face on top of it at the car? then his attempt (?) and successes (?) at getting Paul and others (leap/assumption on my part) to get the nowhere instead of now here... then the brotherhood and a woman answers the door?

I don't know... maybe it is possible that Paul is being sucked into the dark side and he remains good and defeats or fights the dark from within. Or he becomes evil himself. Or I'm just reading too much into it. I just know I thought alot about it today. That's a good and a bad sign. Making me think is good. Making me think dark stuff is not. I'll give it a few weeks and see where it looks like it's going.

I'm all for the good v bad stuff. devoted buffy fan from the beginning. it's the bad-v-bad-there-is-no-hope stuff that i can't get into. that's a little too much like national news.

Flame me, delegate me to Troll-land, but Miracles doubleplus disapointed me. I think one major drawback to it was that unfortunately, 'Stigmata' was on sci-fi the night before... But, really, gave this show a chance, found it rehashing too much that's been done too many times, and it didn't hold my attention. But this was only one episode, the premeire episode fo Firefly wasn't stellar either. I will still give it a chance.

'Miracles': A Dangerous Stunt!

January 24, 2003
'Scream' star SKEET ULRICH says he considers himself more of a spiritual person than a religious one: The biggest miracle in his life was the birth of his twins. Still, there was something about the new ABC series, "Miracles," that appealed to the slasher-film enthusiast, and made him decide to give TV a try.

"I hadn't read anything in film that was as powerful or poignant," he tells ET. "It touched me in so many ways. I had been looking for something like this in film for a very long time. There are so many ways that this character goes, so many ups and downs, and experiences that he has."

In "Miracles," airing Monday nights at 10 p.m., Ulrich plays Paul Callan, an investigator of modern miracles who always discovers a mundane explanation that disproves claims of divine intervention. With his faith dwindling, Paul finally experiences a real miracle, which changes his life forever.

As a result, he hooks up with a man named Alva Keel (played by ANGUS MacFADYEN), who has been on his own quest for the truth. Keel heads an organization that investigates unexplained occurrences.

"I think Paul is trying to figure out where he falls in terms of faith," the actor who was born BRYAN RAY ULRICH explains. "I think deep down, he probably has more faith than we see in that he's open enough to follow his heart. I think he's torn."

ET was on the set for an action-packed "Miracles" adventure in which a city bus explodes. "Today is probably one of our biggest days," Ulrich pointed out. "I like to do as much of the action stuff as they will let me, for believability's sake."

So does the star of 'The Craft' believe in supernatural events?

"I try and stay objective about it," he replies. "And that's hard in some cases. There are things that I would be skeptical about that Paul may not be. You just have to stay open. The great thing about Paul is his openness."

For a behind-the-scenes look at "Miracles," tune in to ET tonight. Then catch "Miracles" on ABC, Monday nights at 10.

Plus, if the show actually hangs around (how burned are we? am I?) it could get seriously good.

We'll see if 'Miracles' get picked up for another season. While a good show, it's being buried in the ratings. We'll see if 'Miracles' can pull off a miracle.

SAVEMIRACLES

I've been trying to locate fansites, and dearly wish there was one!

Also -- for those "Miracles" watchers who might be interested:

Hey y'all,

Just a quick note following the cancellation notice on the show. I'm an entertainment publicist and because I love this damn show, I'm organizing a major national grassroots "Save Miracles" campaign which will hopefully bring together Miracles newsgroups and bulletin boards, viewers and fans, as well as entertainment and TV media writers and critics. I've already contacted the show's producers and our materials and efforts may actually help them with their next steps here in trying to shop/save/market the show and its remaining unviewed episodes, to other likely networks, including such prospects as USA, Sci Fi, UPN, or WB.

Anyone interested in helping out, taking part, or add their names to a mailing list, please feel free to contact me!

My goal is that we the viewers would be willing to:

* Express public support for the show and its creators as an example of truly exciting and intelligent television;

* Watch the show faithfully on another network;

* Show public support for the network that chooses to pick up the show;

* And perhaps most importantly, that we'd also be willing to express our public support of the show's new advertisers and sponsors, committing to viewing their commercials and buying their products as a sign of appreciation.

In addition, secondarily, I'm putting together viewers/mailing lists to:

* Express polite, cordial unhappiness with ABC executives at their decision;

* Express public dissatisfaction with ABC for its consistent inability to stand behind quality television;

* Express polite dissatisfaction to ABC's advertisers and their products on their participation in the network's unwillingness to support challenging and critically acclaimed shows (and boycott said products for their participation)

Ultimately, my goal would be to assemble grassroots efforts from several groups into one concerted effort to market/save the show, and will be releasing press releases and bulletins to media and entertainment magazines on our progress. (I already have commitments from a few TV critics I know who say they'll write about our efforts.)

Also, I'd love assistance from any who might wish to take part by contributing contacts, "Miracles" group mailing lists (where approved by members of course), and hard numbers like production costs and Nielsen ratings for comparable shows, etc. -- let me know!

My goal here is to take a campaign one step beyond the recent excellent (and very public) efforts of Farscape fans to save their show -- I don't just want to save Miracles because it's a great show, but demonstrate that in the long run that it's a great business decision to find the show a home, and that this show can in fact make money for the producers and the network that supports it.

E-mail me at SaveMiracles@aol.com -- I'll look forward to hearing from you.
