VISITINGMYINTENTIONS

How many people here are fans of Ultra-Violet? A show with even fewer episodes than Firefly and even more vampire-obsessed than Buffy. It's a sort of "X-Files takes on Buffy". Main character's a jerk, his love interest is awful (I call her the "evil glisteny-teeth woman"--anyone could tell those teeth were plotting something...), and yet I loved it.

So, anyone else?

Early: Where'd she go?

Simon: I can't keep track of her when she's NOT incorporeally possessing a spaceship, don't look at me --

Great series. Loved watching it again on DVD. Clever 'Class 5' abilities and weaknesses too. Smart.

It's a great show, one I pimp onto those I encounter with great regularity. It's also interesting in that it is a post-Buffy vampire show (well, technically it was contemporaneous) and yet it doesn't cover the same ground at all.

The scene in the warehouse is wonderfully tense too. Another show that cried out for a second series.

The guy locked in with the coffins you mean? That was good... and a cunning escape plan too!

I liked how they were totally invisible to technology... all technology. You can't even take their fingerprints: "like all other media, it doesn't record".

I liked it as well. I have a Canadian friend who found it somewhere or other, bought the DVD set and lent them to me. I watched them and promptly bought my own set.

Which is nice, 'cause that's exactly how I turned her on to Firefly. Ahhhh, the karma....

I love that show...at least what I've seen of it. I've only gotten to see the first episode.

I plan on buying the DVDs at some point, though, so I can finish it.

I hear they're making a movie version of Ultra-Violet, but I can pretty much guarantee that, like any other adaption of a worthwhile series, the film will have very little to do with the t.v. show. (Please note I do not class Serenity as an adaption of Firefly). If anyone has seen the Christian Bale flick "Equilibrium", the director, Kurt Wimmer, is taking the helm. Milla Jovovich is starring. Fingers crossed that it turns out okay!

Jimmy Bond: You can't shoot me! I have a very low threshold of death. My doctor says I can't have bullets enter my body at any time.

Yeah, I heard about it a few years back and I managed to find a copy of the DVDs here in Canada. So I snatched it up and watched it as soon as I got home.

I think that this has been one of the best Vampire series out there besides Buffy. Though I did think that some of the things that the Code 5's couldn't do such as record their voice, and use Telephones was a little lame. Though I found the storys where very well written. It would have been interesting to see where they would have gone with the show if it had been picked up for a least another season.

The guy in the warehouse scene (I can't remember anyone's names) was the coolest of the bunch. And such an ingenious escape!

I thought the abortion episode was the creepiest ever, because you have no clue what she should do...

That would be Idris Elba, don't forget you can see him in The Wire and Sometimes in April - both from HBO.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

According to IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0370032/ , the movie was made pursuant to film rights to the mini-series but, from the synopsis, they seem to have little in common beyond title & vampires. Also, it seems to have been finished (as in 'locked', ready to print) by 2005 Aug 11, but there's still no firm release date. We may never get to know fer sher.

Oh, I loved this show! I'm still annoyed that they didn't make any more episodes - but that's British TV for you. A full 'run' of most drama series is just 6 episodes.

Geeknote: the writer/director of 'Ultraviolet', Joe Ahearne, recently directed some of the best episodes of the new 'Dr Who'.

I did a quick web search, and I don't believe it is a movie adaptation of the series. (Despite the claim made in the "movie connections" section of the movie's IMDb listing [1].) The IMDb listings show no producers or production companies in common, nor is the creator of the TV series credited in any way. [1][2]

Apparently, the movie wasn't even originally called "Ultraviolet"; it was called "Valkyrie", which was the original name of Milla Jovovich's character. [3][4]

A couple of sites explicitly state it isn't related to the TV show. One of those is the Scifi Channel, which was a distributor of the TV show, so I'm willing to put some stock in that. [4][5]

In this case, it's Joe Ahearne for you. Ultraviolet was originally sold as a continuing series, but Ahearne could not delegate any of the writing or directing, so he wrapped it up in six eps. The last line of the series left an opening for continuation, but it would have been a different story from then on, and Joe wasn't interested. This info is from the interview with Joe Ahearne on the region 1 DVD.

DESKTOPHIPPIE

I'd heard a story that the network who made the show had no idea it was about vampires. The writer had pitched it as a crime drama, simple and straightforward, saying only that the main character would find out what the mysterious "code 5" was and would have to deal with the consequences. The rumour was that they were furious when they realised it was a show about vampires. Still, if the writer himself says he wrapped up the show then it must be true.

I really enjoyed the show. Gripping drama, and the climax of each episode was brilliant. It just got better and better. It's a shame they didn't write more seasons.

Hey, all!

Hi caught this when it was on British TV the first time (Channel 4, I think) and loved it, I recorded all the eps.

My kids then used the tapes for some kiddie shows, grrr!

I forgot about the show until earlier this year when I bought the DVD set from a friend. It's Region 2 and although I watched all the eps I don't recall if I watched the other features, so will have to investigate.

I, too, loved the ep with the lady pregnant by her vampire husband, I thought it had a lot to say on several levels.

I took the "can't be recorded by modern tech" aspect to mean that the the vamps were a very psychic creature, they can only be seen by a living mind, not by anything inanimate.

If there is a chance at a movie, that's great.

The beat of the butterfly's wing affects us all.
