In addition to the Firefly episode "Safe" tonight, Jewel Staite will be on the Stargate Atlantis episode "Instinct" tonight. 9PM Eastern

A quote from Jewel about the episode:

"I was given one scene in which very little information was revealed about my character. I knew there were 'some' prosthetics involved, which I didn't have a problem with (I'd never done prosthetics before). The very next day, I was supposed to fly to England to do some promotional work for a film I was in, so that same afternoon of my audition, they told me I had the part. I was rushed to a prosthetics lab where they took molds of my face, my hands, and my arms. They even measured my eyes for contact lenses! Since I hadn't watched the show before, I had no idea what a 'Wraith' was, so I was pretty surprised to see the extent of the prosthetics I would be wearing. ..."

"They look and act almost reptilian, so that was a little hard to master at first, the 'hissing' especially. It was really fun, though"

Script coordinator Alex Levine:

"Jewel Staite, of Firefly fame, stars in this episode, although you may not recognize her under Todd Masters's amazing prosthetic make-up. When she's not made up to look like an evil soul-sucking monster from another galaxy, Jewel is one of those women I have trouble speaking around because she's so beautiful."

Would you mind putting this in the news section on the main page? Support the actors and watch their appearances on other shows.

Awesome! I'm a big SG-A fan and I had no idea Jewel would be on tonight's episode. Will be interesting to see what she looks like as a Wraith and how she performs as a villain.

I had heard earlier that she was in an upcoming episode. I didn't know it was tonights, until I heard her talking. We usually ff through the credits so I didn't notice her name. She did a superb job.

I was glad to see a thread about this...
Jewel did a great job, but man it is impossible to see her (what a waste of a pretty face)
it was an interesting role, I could see why she was interested in it.

always fun to see our BDHs on TV!

INSANESPIKE

The first time I heard the wraith speak tonight, I thought that it sounded like Jewel, but with all the makeup I couldn't really tell. I had to look her up on IMDB and see if tonight was listed as a guest appearance. It was quite a surprise to see her, but definitely a welcome one. It's great to see any of our BDH's back on TV again, even if they are covered in makeup! Let's just hope she's able to show her face off in her next role.

"How drunk was I last night?"

She did do a great job, and is completely visually unrecognizable, to my eyes at least. That voice however, instantly and immediately identifies the poor unfortunate lizard on that episode as Jewel to any fan of her and Joss' slightly shorter lived (on television anyway) show. Good to hear it again, although getting into all that must of taken her absolutely forever.

I did not think it would be possible for me to want to see the movie any more, or any more rapidly. Truth for this one though, I was wrong, apparently there's always more up. Bless SciFi for airing all the originals though. Use 'em, and the boxed set. Recruit. Just hooked another of the uninitiated and created a total addict. He watched them all in under a day and a half and is now on his second or third go-round. Oddly satisfying I've gotta tell you. His appreciation, his newfound obsession validates my own. You should all try it, bump up that box office tally on the opening weekend. Netting a couple of sequels from 'Versal would also be gratifying I imagine.
