"Girls kick ass, says so on a tee-shirt."

Max's best fights on Dark Angel (for me) were in the first season ep 'Rising', where she took on some pretty beefy revved up super-soldiers and wiped 'em out, and in the end of the 2nd season finale 'Freak Nation' where she and co. beat the crap out of White and his Conclave hit-team.
Buffy moved into serious fight-territory at the end of the 3rd season opener 'Anne', where she taught a bunch of other-dimensional creeps the quickest way to die in order to free the slaves! Awsome.
These are the first to come to mind, is all.
Any fisticuff fanciers out there got other favourites?

DA... how I love that show.

See, I'm tempted to say that the Max vs Sam fight was good, BUT... for obvious reasons (namely the fact that there were two of Max and only one of Jess), it looked a little choppy in places.

Buffy... Buffy vs Faith, without a doubt. Always the best fights. Graduation part 1...

That was excellent, and I was surprised how good the doubling worked- I mean I could tell when it was actors and when it was stunt people, but only just.

Gotta agree with Phoebe and go with the Buffy/Faith fight at the end of S3. Not only was it one the better choreographed ones but it was more brutal and also resonated beyond simply being a good fight in that it became a crucial part of the show's mythology.

Splitting hairs to arrive at an answer, for Buffy, I'd say the end of season five with Buffy wielding that god's hammer and whacking away at Glory. For Max, Art Attack when she escapes from the Korean ship with the Norman Rockwell painting and gets tripped up by the long red dress. It's a funny bit, and Jessica Alba looks so hot in that dress!

Max... Buffy... hot scene... Hmm... Oh! Sorry!
How's this for an alternate best Max fight. In Rising, when she revs herself up with one of the Reds own neuro-implants to rescue Original Cindy from them. It's got a kind of, "You want to meet the real me?" feel to it.

Buffy v Faith (Graduation Day) was amazing - I agree - but there are just so many!
Same goes for Max, although I have to say, I love the one in Fuhgeddaboutit (but that has a lot to do with Alec). It is also full of great quips etc.

That's the one I was talkin' about at the top of the thread. It gives me goosebumps every time, 'cause Max is takin' such a chance with her life doin' that!

Yeah - she's risking her life for her friend, and with the blood dripping from her eyes - it's amazing. I also like her excuse for missing work the next day -

It's one of the quotes on imdb - I'm not that good, not had the DVD's long enough. I knew there was something about radical amateur brain surgery to stop having a neurochemical overload, but that's as far as I got.
Ah - imdb, the way to cheat.

p.s. do you always change your signatures? It's great, I've had the same one for about a year (oh dear).
p.p.s. Freak Nation ROCKS! I watched it again the other day! Love it to ickle tiny pieces (although it does tend to make me depressed about the whole lack of season three). So does the fact that there's a Big Brother 5!
p.p.p.s. Now look what you've done.

Any time Buffy and Faith fought each other or fought together (synchronized slaying) it was great. Also loved 'Hush' when Buffy and Riley were fighting the Gentlemen (sorry Chris--still don't like Riley except in this ep)--Buffy with her crossbow, Riley with his zapper-gun thingy.

"I aim to misbehave."

I personally prefer hand-to-hand fighting - unless the weapons are REALLY cool - like when she blew up that demon (came in parts for Dru's b'day). That was funny. And when she whooped Giles' ass with a staff. Funny. So sometimes it's fine (with swords etc.) but when they use distance things (guns and crossbows etc.) it kinda spoils the fun for me. Just what I think.

Hand to hand is more fun to watch, and it's harder to choreograph. Anyone can pull a trigger.
That's why I love when Max gets a gun, she throws it away. "Now kickin' ass I got no problems with."

Right now I'm plowin' through the fourth season of Buffy- a Buffython! Faith just came out of a coma, and is starting trouble, it's a hoot, but as soon as it's finished, back to Max. I miss the organic and 'realistic' feel of DA.
Another good fight between Buffy and Faith! Yeeehah!

Is it weird that we're talking about DA being realistic? Well - it's more realistic than Buffy anyhow.
Tell you what'd be great though - a Max v Buffy fight. That would be fun.
I don't mean tro be childish or anything - but Max would so win. She kicks ass. Says so on the t-shirt.

What have you done to me cisall? I now constantly need to change my signature - damn you! (in the nicest way possible).

i really liked some of the fighting between buffy and angelus in season 2. the first bit of buffy fighting that really stood out to me was her ramming his head through the side of a cabinet thingy then pulling him up through the top. twas a gorgeous little combo move :)

off the top of my head i can't really think of any outstanding max fights (it's been a while sinced i watched da) but given the choice of watching max or buffy lay down a beating then max would get my vote every time. mmmmm.

There was a time when I woulda said that Max could take Buffy anytime, anywhere. But now that I'm into Buffy's season 4, I see Buffy in a new light. Max vs. Buffy would be genetically superior/military training/streetfighting experience vs. pure slayer strength and ability/demon dispatching history.
It would be quite a battle. It would come down to who was at the top of their game that day (unless Max revved herself up with that Red's device, then it wouldn't take her too long to put Buffy down).

Signatures, like underwear, need to be changed from time to time...

of course i do. in fact, i have two copies of season 1. the r2 version with all the nice widescreen formatting and higher resolution video goodness (same as my season 2) and the r1 set with the added extras that we english types didn't get cos i was just that hooked on it :)

how could i not own dvds of x5-332960073452 being all gorgeous and violent.

and i even imported the books to give me that extra sense of closure.

erm, off the top of my head i can't remember if they are anamorphisised or not. i shall try to remember to have a look for you tonight. and my point about higher resolution isn't that they are any kind of funky h.d. versions, just the normal difference between the pal and ntsc standards.

as to the cost they've been floating around £20 in sales when i've seen them recently. www.play.com is always a good start for u.k. dvds.

the one thing that i should add is that i'm not sure that they were originally filmed for 16:9 so it might be a bit of a hack and slash job to make it fit that aspect ratio. that said, i never noticed the picture looking like it was badly cropped.

- edit - the linky on play.com says that they are both anamorphic. hurrah.

I'm afraid I only have the r2 DVD's - I'm very annoyed about the lack of extras present - is it worth getting the r1 DVD's? Are the extras any good? And (more importantly as I seem have no money at all) - how much does it cost to import them?

i only got thefirst season r1 set and i picked it up cheap where it happened to be lying around in a local shop, so i can't really comment about the cost of importing it.

as to the quantity of extras, erm, once again, it's been a while since i watched it, i think there were a few behind the scenes things and a couple of commentaries. all obviously somewhat forgetable, so not really enough to make it an essential purchase unless you see it pretty cheap somewhere.

They were shot full screen with the intention to crop them for widescreen broadcast, so there was extra to trim off. I like seein' the extra 'edges' on the top and bottom, but would love to see it anamorphic.
