REGINAROADIE

Hey all DR. WHO fans here on the site. I want to open by saying that I think DR. WHO is some of the best sci-fi produced for tv since FIREFLY (and that's including the two superb miniseries TAKEN and THE 4400). This week, CBC showed the last ep of the first season of the new DR. WHO (and even though the new guy has that same mad eyed/wide smile that all the Doctors had, I'm still going to miss Chris Eccleston.) And I was just wondering.

For those of you who have seen the series, what are some of your fave eps?

Some of my favorites are "Dalek" (because it really established how badass Dalek's can be, and it also shows that even though the Doctor's been around for 900 plus years, he can still learn something new about compassion), "Father's Day" (a great example of how time travel can fuck everything up as well as having one of the best emotional storylines of the show where Rose meets the fahter she never knew), "The Lost Child/Doctor Dances" two parter (equal amounts scary, funny, emotionally moving and thrilling. How can you not laugh at Rose dangling from a balloon used for target practice during the middle of the German's raid in bombing London, while wearing a Union Jack t-shirt. And all she can say is "OK, maybe not this shirt.") and the last ep, "The Parting of the Ways", just for the subversive thrill one gets when you see a Dalek and a robotic version of Anne Robinson blow each other up.

Can't wait for the Xmas special and season two to start up and for the first season to hit DVD.

So what are some of your guys's favorites?

And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ... ow ... ound ... round ... ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?

CALLYGAL

Hiya, this is probably only my third post or something like that, but I had to comment when I saw a Dr Who thread! Loved the new series muchly, especially Christopher Ecclestone as the Doctor.

Think my favourite episode(s) is The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. Finally understood why my mum claims to have hidden behind the settee to watch Dr Who as those two are genuinely creepy. There's something supremely unnerving about that child, and then the whole group of them. Part of it might be that there is no grand enemy, these are just ordinary people, and up until the end of the episode there's no reason for what's happening to them. The child is lost and scared, but still incredibly dangerous. Which heightens the scariness.

Then we have the grand finale which wouldn't work quite so well if the episode wasn't where it was. As it is, we've seen how...lost or damaged or whatever that this Doctor is. So when he finally gets his perfect day - "Everyone lives!" you really feel for him. He gets to play real hero, not just picking the worst of two bad options, in contrast to most of the rest of the episodes where someone will die...

Then factor in the shippiness of all the dancing. (possibly the first BBC-approved OT3)Also, first appearance of the divine Jack. "Who looks at a screwdriver and thinks, oooh, this could do with being a bit more sonic?

will miss Who

I'm not nice. I'm just highly susceptible to guilt

CHRONICTHEHEDGEHOG

Top five would be:

1. The Doctor Dances
2. The Empty Child
3. Dalek
4. Father's Day
5. The Long Game

Was very, very dissapointed with the conclusion of the Bad Wolf storyline. If they'd just left it as the Dalek's plotting to bring the Doctor to that point in time it would have been amazing but the 'twist' was just hideous. Nice regeneration though, really looking forward to the new doctor!

COSMICFUGITIVE

In no particular order:

* Rose.
* The Unquiet Dead.
* Dalek.
* The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.
* Father's Day.
* The Parting Of The Ways.
* The Long Game.

^ There are a lot of good, solid episodes in the first series. I love all of them, but these are the ones that stand out for me.

Can't wait for the Christmas special!

THE DOCTOR: "I'm the Doctor, by the way. What's your name?"
ROSE: "Rose."
THE DOCTOR: "Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life!"

UNCHARTEDOUTLAW

Woohoo! Love it love it love it! Being stateside, I had my sneaky way of seeing the eps, but I can't wait for DVD. Totally getting them!

Fave eps include:

Dalek (yesssss!)
Parting of the Ways
Rose (just cause it was back on the air)
Father's Day (nearly cried, I did)

Really, I loved em all. Grew up on Dr Who and I'm still stoked to have it back on the air! But those are some of my top ones. And, if you look at my blog here on FFF.net, you'll find links to my FF and DW music videos!

FORRESTWOLF

I completely agree with Callygal's analysis of why the Doctor Dances was so wonderful. It wasn't just that it was incredible writing/acting - it was that it happened THEN in the series. They'd established the Doctor's state of mind so well that the sheer joy of the moment was shared by the audience. That episode's my favorite, hands down - and I think it's one of the best episodes on TV ever (almost as good as Shindig!).

Can't wait for more - and I'll be buying the cute TARDIS boxed set as soon as I can!
