I'll be sure to let you know. The DVDs have already shipped so I should get them on Tuesday. Yay!!!

I've heard, and there are posts in this thread about it, that there won't be any type of extra material. I'm sure there will be something like previews for other FOX shows but other than that, I doubt there will be anything.

I got my DVDs today!!! I haven't really watched them yet though. Based on the information from the back of the cases, there aren't any commentaries or anything besides some of the TV spots.

The picture and sound were awesome of what little I watched. I only watched a little cuz I thought the disc might have been damaged while shipping. Luckily though it wasn't and I won't have to deal with Best Buy's customer service people (*shudder* the slowness, and the unhelpfulness).

I just picked up mine and well read here:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/showblog.asp?b=1987

Now has anyone else besides me and Chipmunk experienced problems with episode two? Pixelation I can live with but an episode that doesn’t play I can’t. Did I get a bad disk of a poorly copied episode or did I get a poorly copied episode on a sensitive DVD player?

hmm, interesting. I've watched some of the episodes but not the 2nd yet. I'll have to check that out when I get a chance. I have a somewhat faulty DVD player though. On several different DVDs from different sets it'll start to freeze up then jump a little and the picture starts to go all pixel like (but in little squares).

The episodes I have watched haven't had any problems. It had been so long since I'd seen the pilot episode that some of the scenes looked new to me. Does anyone know if the Australian pilot ep and the American pilot ep were the same?

Doesnt sound too promising.. Should I buy it or not? .. .. i've been waiting so long now. Post follow ups on your disk 2 dilema please.

Anyone know if S.A.A.B can be bought in Australia? or will I have to order from US like I had to initially with Firefly.

I remember watching the premier on a pocket-sized Casio TV while sitting in the taxicab I was driving, at the LAX holding lot, waiting to go out on a run. Even on a 2" LCD screen, I could tell that this was some'n special (especially the writing)!

These were the stand-out performances for me...

I can't remember, but maybe y'all can tell me; is SAAB as good as or better than Earth 2 ? They came out about the same time, right?

IMHO although I like both Earth2 and S:AAB, S:AAB is by far the supirior show. It was cancelled by Fox after only one season, if that tells ya anything

Then it MUST be great, Fox would let just an okay show go at least 3 seasons

S:AAB was way better than Earth 2. E2 seemed to be a show searching for a purpose; AAB knew its purpose from day one. It was more than Sci-Fi it was a universal show about men and women in combat.

BTW I just watched ‘Sugar Dirt’ (Amazing Episode) and there was some pixalation in the hanger bay scenes, but no major screw-ups with the disk. Only two more episodes left to watch. Hopefully I’ll head over to Best Buy tomorrow for an exchange.

I never saw 'Airwolf' but I would say it’s a lot like ‘Wing Commander’ (The games not the movie based on them).

Yea there was some of that 'X-Files' like UFO stuff, but I don't want to spoil anyone...

The helmets looked similar to the ones in Airwolf, so I understand the confusion.

Col. McQueen: My maker was some geek in a lab coat with an eyedropper and a petri dish. What do I need to make peace with him for?
Chaplain: In times of war we must all make peace with our maker.
Col. McQueen: Well, I don't think our maker wants to hear from me right now. Because he knows I'm going to go out in this plane and I'm going to remove one of His creations from His universe. And when I get back, I'm going to drink a bottle of scotch as if it was Chiggy Von Richtofen's blood and celebrate his death.
Chaplain: Amen.

I can only wish!!
But you can buy a fully-functioning Airwolf replica helmet (molded directly from an original Prop Helmet used on the show!) here...
http://www.airwolfthemes.com/airwolfhelmets.html
The guy's working on recreating the uniforms, also patterned directly from the originals!

Here's information on the S:AAB helmets:

Ooh! Ooh!! Oooooh!!! The Prop Store of London has(had?) an actual S:AAB helmet for sale!!

I wonder if the guy doing the Airwolf helmets would consider doing a similar job for S:AAB fans?

Ahhhhhh this is just insane! I went to best buy to exchange the disk. No problem they say, I grab a new box off the shelf and look at it- same defect. I play it in the store’s DVD player and it gets all pixilated on the same episode. So the clerk tells me to grab another disk. Ok it has the same defect but it seems to work. I get home and guess what the problem is in another episode now. Three disks in a row have the same defect on the same side of the 1st disk.

I’m close to ‘Abandoning All Hope’

I don’t know WTF I’m going to do now. Maybe I should demand another disk (not a swap) that doesn’t have the screwed up episode so I have one disk with one bad episode and another with one bad episode so I get all the episodes but on two different disks. I’m going to make sure the manager hears about this and that he tells whoever is producing those disk they are doing a piss poor job.

A few years ago I woulda jumped at it, now alls I want is the second season on dvd (the third can rot as far as I'm concerned).

My son would love it though, he loves the 'copter and the helmets. I ain't quite the little fanboy he is, he he he.

GunRunner, I owned a magnavox dvd player that wouldn't play my Chinese (Hong Kong) dvd's, then a Philips that wouldn't play certain American dvd's right. My latest, a Panasonic plays everything. Not sayin' it's your player, there's obviously something wrong w/the sets, but some player out there might be able to make sense of the sub-par authoring.
Other than that, the wider release not connected to Bestbuy might be better produced...

Just a thought Chrisisall

Well, it finally happened towards the beginning of "Sugar Dirt" (One of my favorite eps): Freeze-up!!

I look at the disk under the light, and I see a "nebula" of tiny little bubbles (kinda looks like the "unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the galaxy") in the Mylar.

Damn that Fux and all it's minions at Best Buy!

AIRWOLF

I am new here but I see from time to time that Airwolf comes up. If it is not out the main stream here I would like to add this information.
I am the builder of the Airwolf Helmets, Suits and boots from the show. And to even top that, Please follow the link to the full size recreation of Airwolf herself! This will take you to a site that shows the daily build that I am doing and bringing this rare Lady back to life in 100% detail as the screen used chopper. I am building Airwolf to be in a new ground up Museum and she will be hanging from the steel beams 40 feet off the floor and in full combat mode. The recreation of the helmets and suits is what brought the recreation of the real Airwolf to life. Please never feel your hobbies can't go anywhere as I am living proof that your love for this type of hobby and science fiction world can grow and many out there remember and follow along with you.

(Sorry) I saw maybe five episodes of this due to dumbass scheduling. I never did work out what was going on. Starship Troopers meets every WWI & II flick going. With clones.

I bought the Space: Above and Beyond DVD set the other day and have just finished the pilot. The series is no Firefly, but it is still good, even by today's standards. The similarities with Firefly are interesting -- a high cost risky show given a half-chance by Fox and then cancelled before its audience can find it --but Firefly had a bigger fanbase (initially due perhaps to Joss' followers) so that we got Serenity.

You are absolutely correct about the episode, "Who Monitor's the Birds". It is this series' "Out of Gas", a great, deep, story with a whole range of emotions and actions. The actor who plays Hawkes is terrific in it. It was the only episode I had on tape and I re-watched it dozens of times. Now I can see it with better resolution and sound on the DVD. I hope you get the DVDs and get to see it, too.

I thought I was like, the only person, ever, to like this show.
I mean, I liked that this was a military show - it was essentially Combat! in space. But the details were right - no dainty little Red Alert siren "Warning. Will everyone please attend to their duties in a timely fashion. The Klingons are detonating a sun nearby."
No. A real General Quarters klaxon BONG BONG BONG! Now, General Quarters! General Quarters! All hands to General Quarters!
I would have slept through a Star Fleet Red Alert - I've been awoken many times by a call to General Quarters.
No debating about the proper etiquette for engaging the aliens "Captian, the Gribblerabble ship is powering their Death Ray (I know because our sensors work on magic, and I can tell its an alien death ray and not an alien dishwasher)! Oh, I say! Well, not very sporting of them, what? Well, this calls for decisive action! I'll have a spot of tea, and we'll discuss what that action just might be for the rest of the episode."
