Well, that may have been the strongest episode yet for my money - but I wish they hadn't pretended it was something new when it was a rehash of City on the Edge of Forever (which I'm sure someone will be able to point our rehashed a short story - ironic for time travel plots).

Just well written and acted, not what you expect from 7pm on a Saturday, but then I'm getting maudlin in my old age.

COSMICFUGITIVE

I really liked this episode. The acting was really strong (especially Billy Piper) and it had an endearing quality.

Although, there was one part that didn't make sense:

Select to view spoiler:

At the end, Rose's Mum is talking to a young Rose about the death of her father. The Doctor claimed that noone would remember the events of that day once they had fixed the problem, but Rose's Mum mentions the 'mysterious woman' that held his hand while she waited for the ambulance.

Also, wouldn't Rose's mum in the present day realise that she had met her grown up daughter in 1987, (when it was revealed to her by Rose's Dad in the church earlier?) Wouldn't she remember 'The Doctor' years later too? Is that a huge error in the plot or am I crazy?

You are right, there were major issues regarding the whole altering time issue.

You always have problems when you mess about with time, in deciding what the implications are etc and how far u shud take it.

They got themselves in a whole and weren't sure what to do, so it seems that they used the good old fashioned "charmed" solution; make the rules up as you go along, and if you don't like the rules you've made, change 'em

that episode was never going to be ground braking or make that much sense, but it was necessary, and enjoyable.

good old CE was BRILLIANT in this, some of the funniest moments in the series so far. Especially loved the "DON'T TOUCH THE BABY"

(i haven't included any spoiler quotations because i dont concider anything i have said to be particularly spoilerish, if i am wrong, and it is very spoilery i apologise to those whom have been spoiled)

My god my god we're all gonna die! And i've still not found out if i can use companion as a verb!

CASUALTY

I think I might have an answer for CosmicFugitive but it's late and I could have misunderstood!

Select to view spoiler:

The Doctor did say that no one would remember the events of the day after the problem had been fixed. From what I gather they don't. Rose's mum remembers a mysterious woman holding her husbands hand because at that point the rift in time has been fixed. Rose's Dad has been hit by the car and all is right with the world as they say.

It would also explain why she doesn't remember The Doctor or that she met her grown up daughter. She only has memories from when those scary looking bat/dinosaur creatures have gone and her husband has thrown himself in fromt of the car! Hope that makes sense?!

Of course she's probably pretty confused as to why she's missing like half a days memory!

But then again I may be all wrong!

My take was that Rose's dad (I'm not spoilering this as I set the thread up with a simple title and warning ) fixed the timeline, but of course it wasn't quite right - a few ripples that couldn't quite fix. I don't think anyone remembered the time dragons/demons/things from Pitch Black, but other than that it was the same.

As long as the effect on the driver also fixed itself (he didn't run away - let's say that the only effect either way was to make him a more careful driver; one through guilt, the other because someone ran out in front of him).

Next episode looks fun as well...

Thanks. An attorney friend of mine was trying to explain to me why even sharing TV shows was illegal. I still can't make it gel in my head. I can understand anything already on DVD being illegal but a show that's not on DVD yet?

Downloading shows like Wonderfalls, for example, are what propmted me to buy the DVD sets when they came out. All other shows I download to watch, I treat like a VCR recording and delete afterwards.

Apologies for Hijacking this thread

CONTINUING THE SPOILERS - IF YOU'VE MADE IT THIS FAR I'M ASSUMING YOU'VE ALREADY SEEN THE EPISODE!

Yeah, this is my take on it as well. When the Doctor says that no-one will remember he's talking about when he is attempting to fix it with the TARDIS. Once he is eaten by the Reapers and it's down to Rose's dad, then it's a whole different matter.

I thought Rose's dad was fabulous, and I think he would have made a brilliant father if he'd been given the chance. It's obviously from him that Rose gets her ability to deal with the Doctor and aliens etc...
