He was 91. This is Richard Norman Anderson. He passed on Thursday.

Known for Kolchak: The Night Stalker with Darren McGavin, The Six Million Dollar Man (replacing Darren McGavin as Oscar Goldman), Bionic Woman, and many other roles. He can be seen on some rerun episodes of The Big Valley, with Lee Majors in his first ever Hollywood role, before getting the Steve Austin gig.

The other night I saw Colbert in a skit with Matthew McConaughey, and each time the camera returned to Colbert, he dramatically removed his glasses - this was caricature of Anderson's same move as Oscar Goldman in early seasons of Six Million Dollar Man. Perhaps one of the first caricatures of this iconic gesture was in Airplane, with Robert Stack having layers of glasses.

He made some Hollywood TV history. The first actor playing the same role on 2 different networks ($6 Mil Man & Bionic Woman) at the same time.
And The Bionic Woman story on $6 Mil Man became (IIRC) the first 2-part episode in prime time - it was a big deal then to break the episodic format from interchangeable episodes.

He didn't wear socks or makeup, keeping perpetual tan to avoid the latter.

He was an Army Veteran, of WWII (2 years - Born August 1926, tight squeeze fitting 2 years in before Nagasaki on 9 August 1945)).

His final role was 2 years ago, in The Blood Trail.
