BUZZFED.COM - The question is, “Where is Serenity?” Over ten years after the show was canceled, the cult hit still has one of the biggest fan bases in fiction and that loyalty will be rewarded...

On Friday, August 23rd, Dark Horse quietly released the above graphic to their website along with this teaser of a press release...

Thanks for that link!

Kinda bummed it is only a miniseries, though.

Hmmm well if a Whedon isn't attached after the miniseries I kinda hope it ends there. Too many different authors pretty well guarantees there will be some stories that just don't do Firefly justice. I kinda don't want to see the verse revived just to be dragged down and put out to pasture on a low note.

I actually don't mind if there's going to be a lot of different writers. I mean Still Flying showed that Jane Espensen, Jose Molina, Brett Matthews, and Ben Edlund can write some decent Firefly stories without a Whedon hovering over their shoulders.

And Patton Oswalt didn't do a bad job with Float Out either.

Zack Whedon did pretty good with Down Time, I think he's still coming into things, getting a feel. Wasn't as happy with It's Never Easy but that's mostly because there was length restrictions and so I guess Zack had to finish it out with a short easy ending. Just because a Whedon is involved isn't necessarily just a blank check for awesome, sometimes those guys can mess up too.

What's important is a writer having a respect for and passion for the 'verse. It's not exactly like these are difficult characters or settings to grasp and write, they kinda write themselves.

Whedons can do the myth arcs, but there's lots of fun little stories and capers and so on that other writers can do as well. We don't have to put all the effort on Joss and Company.

Too much worry about someone "ruining" Firefly. Does anyone really think even if they did something controversial and split the fanbase that everyone would abandon it? People are very much divided on even the MOVIE and fans are still here, writing their own stories about the verse.

Yeah, a little knee-jerky to say "too many writers - its gonna suck!"

People tend to mythologize Joss into being the sole author of everything, like he hasn't had a writing staff on every show.

Sure, maybe it'll suck - but Im going to actually read it before deciding that.

SECOND

The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at https://www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

I dream that Firefly can leap from the comics to TV, just as The Walking Dead did. But that won't happen if the comic lasts only 6 issues then goes back into another hiatus for years. It needs a steady stream of writers. When one writer crash lands Serenity after running out of ideas, altitude and airspeed, all at the same time, then the next writer continues the series without interruption.

I just have a gut feeling this miniseries is gonna sell so well that they'll have no choice but to continue it. Let's hope.

Also, is it January yet?

I'd like to be optimistic and think that if it sells well they might make it a regular series, but didn't all the other one sell exceedingly well?

Better Days will give you some good art with character insights and a fun plot, and the more recent hardcover printing of Better Days will give you some internet only released comics along with it.

Those Left Behind is also an enjoyable more serious movie dose of firefly (albeit the art can be a little wonky but it's still good for any firefly fan), as is the Shepherd's Tale. Between those you'll probably have all of them. I think with the hardcover reprintings for them they even have a nice consistency across the volumes.

Yes. Dark Horse has been pressuring Joss to continue in comic form for YEARS because those comics were the best stand-alone sellers Darkhorse has ever had.

But it looks like Joss finally caved and decided he likes money after all. Or he figured out where he wants to go from the movie with the story arc. Pick one or two or both, I'm okay with either.

As I try to be opitimistic, I'll go with he finally figured out where he wants to go.

"Serenity: Firefly Class 03-K64—Leaves on the Wind"
Quite a mouthful for a title.

I think he always knew where he wanted to go, but now he realizes that the ship has sailed - at least on any story set anytime directly after the film. Even if he did get to make more, they're all too old to fit that timeframe.
