MSN Entertainment has an interesting article about the top 10 canceled shows of all time and it listed Firefly as #6! The link is http://entertainment.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=150652 if anyone is interesting in reading it. It doesn't really say anything new, I just thought that it was good that the media is still talking about how excellent Firefly was and how stupid it was to cancel it a year after cancellation.

Cool. Now all we need is for the word to keep being spread

They can have my "Firefly" DVDs when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers....

Oh yeah, you, FOX TV!!

While it's great that there is a list out there to recognize these shows after the fact, I find it incredibly depressing to realize just how many of my all time faves have been canned before they really got going.

Number six ain't half bad considering some of the other shows on the list...

if you've never seen "The Ben Stiller Show", "Sports Night" or "Mr. Show" you've truly missed out on some of the greatest comedy ever produced for the small screen...if you're lucky you can still catch the first two in the wee hours of the morning on comedy central.

The only show on the list that I disagree with is "News Radio" which, while it started off great, certainly fell into standard sitcom formulae by the end of the second season. Not that it wasn't network tinkering that destroyed it, but the quality of the show over the last few years was poor enough for me to agree it was time to put that baby to bed.

enough.

Someone forgot to tell these folks about "Andy Richter Controls the Universe". I'm not sure because there were so few episodes but it might have been even funnier than Simpsons or South Park. All I know is it allways had minimum of 3 laugh out loud moments and as many as eight in a half hour period.

As far as "The Tick" goes the show was good but check out the cartoon version it is way funnier.

Ah, how I miss ARCTU. Definitely an instant classic.

And I totally agree about the cartoon version of The Tick. There is just no better way to show The Tick fighting Dinosaur Dan.

The tick CARTOON was so hilarious, one of my childhood favorites.

Andy Richter Controls the universe was sooo funny! The episode about his friends tiny feet was hilarious! so was the one with Conan guest starring as Andy's psychotic boss!

Yeah but fox did order a renewal for the nr 5 on the list, Family Guy. Due to high sales of DVD and such. So we all know what to do, the precedent has been set!

cool site. tempting to ruin my enjoyment of these angel reruns, but i must resist!

also, the firefly summaries are missing an entry for objects in space. i believe that episode aired, right? they had summaries for a couple episodes that did not air, so where is objects in space?

Huh. Obviously, they don't mention Veritas: The Quest. It wasn't even around long enough for anyone to notice. Four episodes, just before ABC went to 24/7 "War On Terror" coverage.

I think that list is pretty comprehensive though I do agree the Tick animated was finnier- I loved Warbutron's perfoamcne... and it's a shame the show didn't at least get a full year. I also think newsRadio's overrated.

The show they missed even honorably mentiooning at the end that was also another short lived Gem (and sadly NOT out on DVD!) was ABC's 1998 dramedy, Cupid. Excellent show with Jeremy Piven and paula Marshall. But again, too smart for it's own good.

I LOVED Cupid. It was easily one of the most clever and funny shows I'd seen in a long time. I mourned that loss for a long time. I luckily still have them all on tape but my tapes ain't gonna last forever dang it....

I thought it was ultra-rad Ben jumped fomr the Tick to our beloved Firefly as well. I wasn't sure at first, I had to do the almighty IMDB to make sure but yes it brought a smile to my face....

I think you can argue Sliders had a good run (but then so did Homicide) but why no mention for Police Squad? A TV show which got little support from the network because it "required too much attention from its viewers", cancelled before it had even made a full season, became a cult hit then resurrected as a massive hit movie series.

Yeah, like that's ever going to happen again...

Nice to see some other shows other than FIREFLY on the list. I have a list of shows as long as my arm that got royally screwed for one reason or another that I wish stayed on the air longer.

Some shows I wish stayed on longer was the new version of THE FUGITIVE (always thought the story of Kimble worked better as a TV series than as a movie), BOOMTOWN (a cop show that broke the standard structure, and had, without a doubt, the most complex, fascinating character on network tv, David McNorris, played flawlessly by Neal McDonough) and FUTURAMA (only lasted about a quarter of the length of THE SIMPSONS, but was funnier and more enjoyable than SIMPSONS have been in the last 8 years.)

But one show I thought should've lasted longer than it did was this short lived ABC drama called WONDERLAND, which was set in a mental institution. Only lasted two episodes, but was a sublime experience. I'm wondering when that'll finally hit DVD shelves.

Ah, SportsNight! I am still cursing the bastard programmers at ABC for taking that away from me. I taped almost all the episodes, but would dole them out to myself sparingly because I was afraid of wearing out the tapes and never being able to watch it again. Then, quite by accident, I found the DVDs in Barnes and Noble. Now I'm able to watch it as much as I want, while still cursing the network for axing it. (Now what else does that sound like?)

Packer fans welcome.
All others tolerated.

I can't believe Twin Peaks never even made the top ten. No tv show has ever gone as deep or as far as Twin Peaks. It was beyond a tv show. It was a unique hybrid of comedy, mystery, action, romance, tragedy, spirituality, fantasy, etc. David Lynch is the reason tv shows went beyond generic boundaries. It should at least be on the list.

But, at least Freaks and Geeks and Firefly made the list.

I loved Cupid too. It was dealt an awful timeslot. Every so often, I'd go on a frantic search for all the episodes, usually with no luck.

However! I just got all 15 episodes and it was great being able to watch this awesome show again. If anyone is interested in trading or buying them, email me alice_period@hotmail.com

The quality is pretty good, except for the 15th episode, but that ones still pretty descent.

I was so happy to find them all :) I haven't seen Veronica Mars, but I've heard good things. My new obsession is Arrested Development, which was on the brink of being cancelled, but luckily I will get at least one more season.

Good to hear. I backed up my tape son DVD a long time ago so I have 'back-ups' Anyway it's a show that could stand with a DVD slim box set release considering all the other great short-lived shows that have found new lif eon the formet. I'm sure it'll happen but it seems it missed the DVD wave by * that much.

Seems we have similar taste: I love Arrested Development. it's the only sitcom I watch now. And Yes, mucho glad it's coming back for a third (albiet with a lot of new wrtiers so fingers crossed).

I was also a big fan of Cupid; great cast and dialogue, great scripts. Maybe it just suffered from the Paula Marshall curse - she was also good in it, but has she been in any series that wasn't quickly canceled? Her curse is worse than that of even Ted McGinley (and they both appeared in Sports Night, so it's no wonder that got canceled!)

While we're mentioning great follow-ups, has anyone noticed that Cupid's creator, Rob Thomas, is also responsible for Veronica Mars?
