there is no Serenity sequel in works. At least not yet. "Right now, nobody has any plans to do any kind of sequel," he explained in a brief phone interview. "If they do, I hope they'll include me, because if I find out Brett Ratner is directing it, I'm going to be so mad."

I would imagine it was conducted within the last month if he was on the set of The Office.

Taken from the interview.

Maybe a veiled hint?

I'm not convinced that that part of the interview was recent. It sounds very similar to something Joss said about a year ago, when the first set of sequel rumours was around. But ICBW. I'm surprised that Joss hasn't commented on Whedonesque directly about the rumours, or at least made contact directly with the fanbase - it's unusual of him.

I think this is about an earlier rumor, doesn't mention Alan or Nathan. Plus, in the interview he just finished that The Office episode, and that was all the way back in Spring. Unless he's making another episode...

The interview is new.

Not only does Joss reference MOONLIGHT, but he explicitly states that he's back to direct a second episode of THE OFFICE (which, according to imdb, is ep 4.6, which should air this Thursday).

While the quote about Serenity II is not part of the interview proper, the writer notes that Joss said it during a recent telephone interview inspired by the release of Angel: The Complete Series (which releases today).

This is new material and NOT a rehash of anything he's previously said.

JOSS DIRECTED ANOTHER EPISODE OF THE OFFICE AND IT IS THURSDAY 11/01/2007!!!!!!!

At least that is what I remember reading a while ago and it is a Halloween episode and Joss said something like it is going to be a massacre.

So this is a recent article.

Indeed, it's a new interview. For those who hadn't been paying attention, at the Serenity LA event (which happened last weekend in LA) the Serenity sequel rumours got shot down by Alan and Nathan Fillion. Who were there. It turns out Alan got the wrong end of the stick. Jewel Staite also shot them down on her Myspace blog.

Spreading the baseless sequel rumours ain't going to get you a sequel. It's going to get the press thinking you're nuts, it's going to get Universal thinking you're insane, and it's going to get the fanbase whining about why a sequel hasn't been made. False rumours don't help anybody - if you're gonna do something, do something.

ah Gossi.. why spoil the fun with accuracy???

It is too bad that sarcasm and humor do not show to full effect online...

tho I DO think that the level of rumors shows the level of interest- and I DO think the Studio would find that (and all the licensing and sales) of interest. I do NOT think they would make a film based on rumors- but I do think they would consider the number of rumors an interesting marker...

my 2 cents- keep the change.

Joss has told us that hope for more Firefly/Serenity rests with the Serenity Collector's Edition DVD

Buy it. Give it. Introduce it. Share it. Post it.

Give Joss the numbers he needs to open doors.

Here's another question. If nothing is happening why did they lower the prices for the postcard campaign? It seems to me like that was a bold move on their part. Couldn't that be a hint?

QMX lowered the prices on the postcards. This is why they did it.

Quote:

Browncoats Unite: Wavecards for a Sequel Browncoats are nothing if not tenacious. Joss Whedon himself has credited the gentle persuasion of Firefly fans for getting the greenlight for Serenity. (For the full story, be sure to get yourself a copy of the seminal work on the subject, Done The Impossible).

Browncoats are known for being friendly, kind, smart and damned pretty. Which is why we're so flattered that they've chosen QMx's Wavecards™ to be the humble vessel of a Serenity sequel campaign.

You can read all about it on The Signal forumhttp://fireflydvd.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3794&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 . But, in short, the idea is between now and the end of the year to mail a whole bunch of Wavecards™ to Universal, the studio that made Serenity, showing support for the franchise through licensed products and asking for a sequel.

Being the maker of said Wavecards™ we are, of course, not entirely unhappy with this plan. But as Browncoats, we love it and want to make this as painless as possible for the folks who participate. So, starting now, we are reducing the price of a pack of 25 Wavecards™ by $5 to $14.95 here and on Amazon.com. We'll be running the special at least through the end of November.

Note: So we strongly encourage folks who send Wavecards in support of a sequel to be positive, supportive and polite in your correspondence with Universal. We love Universal for making our Big Damn Movie; we're going to love them even more for giving us a Big Damn Sequel!

In my opinion, eventually, Universal or some other studio will realize that there is money to be made and we will get a continuation of Firefly/Serenity with Actors.

Joss hasn't given up hope. That is why we are getting a another Serenity 3-issue comic book and not a whole series like Buffy Season 8 and Angel season 6.

We hold until Mal gets back.

We buy/support the Serenity Collector's Edition.

We buy/support Official Serenity Merchandise.

We see Serenity in a theater when we can which adds to Serenity's Box Office Gross.

We share our Love of Firefly/Serenity.

Joss and the actors keep working and getting more popular.

The more people see of our Big Darn Heroes work, the more people want to see of our Big Darn Heroes work...which leads them back to Firefly/Serenity.

As someone who never saw firefly until the scifi channel run, I was only able to see 10 minutes of the show but I was hooked. I watched the episodes in marathon the next chance I got. I can say without a doubt that if scifi continues to run it, and it runs with decent numbers, spike tv will probably pick it up and a new collection of avid fans will grow. I really think that this show will rise again.

when there are no heroes where will we turn?

Ah, OK, but what do you mean by this?
I mean what are you saying a person could be doing and not just talking about?

a scifi fan of Firefly has very little voice compared to the whole Hollywood Tv and Movie powers that can actually "do" things...

What else becides just talking (and spreading rumours are part of talking) would you want from anyone?
