After your post, I tried searching for any tidbit of news but I couldn't find anything on UK TV ratings.

Unfortunately, it seems to have dropped somewhat from week 1 to week 2.

A 30-second Google search led me to this:
http://www.barb.co.uk/viewingsummary/weekreports.cfm?report=weeklytop3
0

If you scroll down, you can see the Top 10 rated shows per channel.

For the week of 6/1/03 (or 1/6/03 for you Europeans), Firefly was the 10th rated show on Sci-Fi, with 0.07 million viewers.

For the week of 5/25/03 (or 25/5/03), Firefly was the FOURTH rated show on Sci-Fi, with 0.10 million viewers.

Now, I don't know the accuracy of Barb.co.uk, but it looks pretty exhaustive to me.

*HOWEVER* I will add that for Major motion pictures, a 30% drop from opening weekend is actually considered very good.

Hopefully viewership will stabilize with some high numbers.

And to you Brits: Quick watching the Beckham/Posh/ManU/Barcelona/Milan saga!!!!

Watch Firefly instead!!!!

I'm British !

You should check out :

http://uk.scifi.com/forum/

There's a Firefly section, and from the looks of it, alot of Brits (like myself) love the show.

Don't know about the ratings though...

But Scifi UK, show it twice on a Monday, once of Friday and Sunday

Okay, First off, this is Saturday morning and I feel I must whine about Act 3 of Message not coming up. Is all okay?

Second, I see the Brits are getting 4 chances a week to view a Firefly episode. Grrr.... I am jealous.

Have not seen the unaired episodes, except Trash. Loved Trash, read the script for Heart of Gold, and half the script for Message. Note how the acts break at a climax? Hence the above whining. Another Grrr....

Will be getting DSL next week, these new episodes are the excuse I can use. Wife loved Trash, as did I.

Whoever is making DVDs of the unaired episodes, contact me. Even though I plan on dling them, I want the DVD as well.

Am getting at least 2 copies of the offical DVDs, as per orders from spousal unit. Any idea when they will be released?

Thanks all ya'll for your efforts.

I would take any ratings for the UK performance of Firefly with a pinch of salt. Sci-Uk is a tiny channel that screens most of its shows & movies up to five times a week. It does not produce its own shows (apart from a couple of magazines)and is entirely insignificant compared to the UK's premier cable channel, Sky 1.

Firefly was not picked up by any of the UK's terrestrial channels BBC, ITV, Channel Four or Channel Five. Shows such as Buffy, Angel, Smallville, Alias, X-Files, Enterprise etc have all been shown on this big four. Unless one of these channels picks Firefly up, it's performance on UKSci-Fi is commercially irrelevant, as that channel has an overall negligable slice of the market.

In other words, a minute portion of the UK is even getting the chance to see it.

Well, I'm jolly glad that Sci-fi are showing Firefly. It's brilliant. We have just seen the very scary 'War Stories', and I'm very glad I'll get a chance next week to see it again!

How could this show be cancelled? Are they insane? I don't get it. With all the completely dross, unchallenging rubbish we do get on tele they thought Firefly was no good????....it's time for the world to end

To our British associates, allow me to extend a formal apology on behalf of our gorram stupid entertainment companies on this side of the pond.

It has been the height of cruelty for us to introduce you to such a high-quality program after it has been canceled by the idiot network that butchered it. We are trying to rectify the situation.

It would be very much appreciated if you could stage another invasion, and this time along with burning Washington D.C. to the ground, we would not frown upon the Tommies torching some select portions of Hollywood. I'm sure we can find some native volunteers eager to act as guides. (Archer raises his hand.)

I feel this is the only way we can set right the grievious wrong we have done to you.

There ain't nothin' I can't overcome or come to know. So lay your heavy load down on me, strip everything I have away. I am not your prisoner, I am not afraid.

If anyone read SFX Magazine, and their regular sci-fi news page, you'd see that Firefly has been their most watched and highest rated show for sci-fi UK. The people in charge were pissing themselves with joy and wished they had more of the episodes to show, because they've managed to top their own success stories with first sci-fi tidbits.

Basically Firefly is watched by about a Million people in the Uk, and *could* be watched (as it's part of the "basic" sky package for about 6.9 Million, so you take into account that sci-fi is getting a (roughly) 16.7% of the viewership (not accurate). I think that only three times more people watched the lowest rated episodes on fox.

The Fox network. They brought us Two Guys and a Girl, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Family Guy, Futurama, Brimstone, British Sky Broadcasting, only to snatch them all away.
They left us with 24.

As we Canadians played a pivotal role in the above, I can speak for about two dozen Western Canadian Browncoats eager for employment.

Next U-day perhaps ?

The more the merrier. Got some Aussies hanging around here that I figure would want in on the festivities as well. Ya'll all will be bringing your own beer, of course, and we'll provide the tequila.

(Not a beer drinker myself, but I don't want spend all this time we're supposed to be having fun listening to the various members of our Anglo-Saxon Browncoat Coalition going on about 'that thin piss you Yanks call beer.')

(Related etiquette note. Many of those with whom you will be serving in this great cause don't take kindly to being called 'Yanks.')

There ain't nothin' I can't overcome or come to know. So lay your heavy load down on me, strip everything I have away. I am not your prisoner, I am not afraid.

I have to agree - but then, I wouldn't be here if I didn't, would I?!

Best of all, the UK Sci-Fi Channel are showing Heart of Gold next week, followed by Trash, The Message and Objects In Space - so we in the UK get to see all the episodes and in the correct order too!

Did I mention that I LOVE the Sci-Fi Channel?!

Book: “A duel?”
Wash: “With swords?”
Simon: “The Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword?”
Zoe: “I think he knows which end to hold.”

Never attribute to malice what can be better explained by stupidity. I think that goes for insanity too.

Even crazy people like myself recognize Firefly as a great show. And would never cancel it. Therefore, the executives at fox are not insane.

Okay - my TV guide lied! "Trash" was shown in the UK last night (which was very confusing for me as I was expecting "Heart of Gold") and "The Message" was the episode advertised for next week. I guess that means "Heart of Gold" will be shown the week after that, followed by "Objects In Space."

Actually, I don't care what order the episodes are shown in, just as long as I get to see them all!

Firefly has also made it to the Choices listing in Radio Times (one of the better UK TV listings magazines for all non-Brits!) - I didn't read the details because they have a tendency to put in plot spoilers, but it shows that someone out there in TV-land is watching, even if it is only the BBC!
