According to an article posted on SCIFI.COM, Nathan Fillion told SCI FI Wire during the May 18th Saturn Awards that the big screen version of 'Firefly' is looking very positive. "We're talking silver screen, wide release, big old deal. So everything's looking very positive, so we're going to keep our fingers crossed."

I've never heard of a cancelled show moving right to the big screen; as far as I know, it's never been done. I am new to this site and I just want to say that this was the greatest show ever to get cancelled, I've never been so hooked on a show that I still even now dwell on its demise. I really looked forward to Friday nights at home to watch the Firefly/John Doe 8-10pm slot, so I hope that there is some way Joss can work out.

wow, I never knew that Star Trek got cancelled. I agree that Firefly has more potential, Star Trek is a dying franchise.

star trek was cancelled twice! it was saved once by a fan letter writing campaign(one of the first of it's kind). and later revived by rodenberry as a movie.
and, sure, Star Trek is a dying franchise. almost 40 years since it's first airing! Firefly should be so lucky!

Keep Flying!

Yeah, Star Trek is the first save such and such show campaign I ever heard of. It only lasted one season though. I think you guys really have to take Star Trek as, well, Star Trek. If you cant laugh so hard you cry at Shatner pause acting (admittedly it does get old, so take it in small quantities few and far between), then it's not for you.

What they need to do to save start trek is to look at the two tribbles episodes, and try you reflect them without doing cheep self rip-offs.

SIRENKAIN

Ok, I am just going to say this. We the current Firefly fans will more then likely HATE a big screen movie.

1. They will have to begin, well at the beginning. That means alot of screen time on stuff we know and dialogue we have heard.

2. They may not get the same cast AAAAUUGHHH!!
Vin Diesil as Jayne (kill me now)

3. They may even change characters around, add new ones delete others. May change Characters back grounds. Inara more like Saffron- River maybe sane (WAIT.. wait, that is crazy talk)

I hate to be the Kassandra but the movie would not be made for the fans. Let's face it the fans will get taken for granted because we are already going, our 10 bucks is spent. Joss will need to create a larger fan base to bring it back to tv or a "Firefly 2 Back in the Black". The fan base he had (as pretty as we all are) was not enough to maintain it.

All that being said (and please don't pelt me with tiny large nose penguins for saying it)

I will be there opening day.

I hope it rocks and Fox eats a huge plateful of crow.

I hope Serenity flys again. Just not sure a movie is right for it (us).

I feel better now....... had to share the pain.

River: The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds, given adequate vacuuming systems.
Mal: See, morbid and creep-ifying I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like.

I'm quite confident based on what I've seen that the characters will either be there with the same actors or they'll make new characters. Dont' worry about them hiring other actors to replace them, they wouldn't do that.

I doubt that a movie would happen if not every one was involved. At least I would hope not any how.

Hey SirenKain, gonna have to come down on you on one thing: fans of the show will like a FF movie, if Joss has anything to do with it. Unlike many franchise moguels (coughLUCAScough), Joss appears to respect the fan base. I beleive that JW is keenly aware that sucess in Hollywood is all about the fans. No movie makes hundreds of millions without millions of people paying money to see it. We, ultimately, are paying Joss Whedon's salary, I think he respects that. More than that, I really think he's touched that so many find his creations accessable. So I have every confidence that when (not if!) Firefly hits the big screen, it will not only be accessible to those not forutnate enough to have caught the television show, but also to browncoats alike. It's his track record. Even today, Buffoholics who were faithful from the beginning are rewarded with little jokes in both BtVS and Ats that refer to the early seasons of Buffy.

Firefly: the movie !

I'm not gonna get my hopes up, but if it does happen... I'm gonna be SO happy :)

I mean look at Buffy, it started out as a movie, which bombed, then a tv series appeared a few years later. Maybe Firefly will have the same effect but vice-versa ?

I've watched alot of great tv shows (Buffy, Angel, Farscape) but Firefly - is really something special.

I'm glad Joss isn't giving up, I truely hope he gets the chance to bring Firefly back to our screen, whether it be more tv seasons or movies.
I just hope it works out fine for him.

One title that comes to mind is "Police Squad". it flopped as a series, but the Zucker brothers brought it to the big screen and made it a success.

I'm sure this is old news, but here is a link to firefly immediate assistance with the news of the movie http://fireflysupport.com

Doing Firefly as a big-screen feature may not be what we expect. I agree with the earlier post about settings, characters, and actors.

If Joss can get FF onto the big screen, which it sounds like he is for now, whoever the motion picture company producing the feature may not want the TV cast. It might be with headlining stars and not our beloved TV cast. They are not marquee names. These people will not bring movie goers instantly to the theatre. Joss may not have a choice with casting. But, of course, if the film does well, then who knows.

Doing a big-screen feature is so much different than a TV show. Prepare yourself for anything.

Actually, according to the post by THEDUKE333, who had the luck of running into Summer Glau , she said “That Joss would not do the movie unless all nine cast members would be in it.”

You can see the thread at http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=2127

Firelfy isn't Firefly without the original cast and Joss knows it.

I never read that thread. Thanks for posting it again. I do hope Joss will be able to officially produce it with the original cast...and all of them!

As a fairly new FF fan I must say that a movie could be just the thing to bring back one of the hottest shows on tv for a long time..a space western..now that`s a fairly novel idea..Joss Whedon rocks!! I believe in Joss doing his best to bring back the show albeit for a movie. The movie is a great idea but I hope they keep the original cast and not replace our BigDamnHeroes with MajorHollywoodies!

Nothing but nothing can replace the great chemistry ( ..for me anyway) between Mal/Inara, the funniness of Alan as Wash and the very cool Adam Baldwin as the Jayne .
