Police are trying to locate the owner of a 300-year-old ledger, bound in human skin, found in a Leeds road.

Uh. Wonder what they want to find the owner of the book for--not that it's me, mind you. That would make me some kind of hypothetical criminally insane individual with homicidal tendancies or some such--none of which I am, of course. I mean, supposing with todays superior forensic applications--it couldn't be too hard to find prints or SOMETHING to give an idea of who the book belonged to, not me, or you for that matter--you know--right?! Well then. It'll be interesting to see if the owner can be found, seeing as how I wouldn't have a clue about that myself.
Cheers!

Well, like the article said, they were not uncommon in the middle ages, so it could be some sort of historical artifact.

I'm more curious as to what it was doing in the middle of the road.

Now, see, if we had to worry now-a-days that if we were caught committing a crime that we'd be killed and then our skin would grace the cover of the latest best seller at Barnes & Noble, I have a feeling that crime rates would drop.

Just a theory.

Now, see, some people might find a twisted sort of honor in that. Living vicariously immortalized as the binding of some macabre book. *shiver*
Will be interesting to see how this story developes.

You kidding?

I'd love to have that on a business card.

The looks of stunned horror alone would be worth it.

As a fanatic of antiquarian books, I can say that these aren't all too rare for the time period.
Someone probably thought they were stealing something valuable that they could fence, and then panicked when they realized that it's about as difficult to fence as the Lassiter! But about as valuable if you can find a private collector who wants it!

Wow, the title of this thread caught my eye since I did recently misplace a book and cannot find it anywhere (it's starting to drive me nuts looking for it :-o )

No power in the 'verse can stop me!
