Finally, I got the Firefly DVD's! I hadnt seen it yet, but loved Serenity. NOW....I cant stop watching Firefly! It is the funniest, most original series ever! I was wondering if it was just too expensive to make, or just bad ratings, which I cannot imagine. I just dont understand why a program this good could be cancelled! Explain! I am sooo mad~! I feel badly for the girl who plays Zoe, cause she has been in so many cancelled shows! I loved her in Angel, and in Cleopatra 2525. Anyway, loved the line of Jayne's when he told everyone that Simon's meal smelled like Crotch! Hysterical. Funny, he was on Angel too. Was any of the other cast on Angel or Buffy? Sorry so many questions! Sandi!

Sure, Nathan Fillion was on the final 6 or so episodes of Buffy.

This is the shinest news I've read in a long time - a fan converted by the movie!!

There have been so many threads that go between bemoaning the cancellation and flaming gorram fox in the past couple of years that it's hard to put it all together in one place.

First *pours very fresh wine and hands over the cup* May I say welcome aboard and please sit a spell. This could take a bit.

Here's how it is...

basically, Firefly was scheduled to air on a Friday night, which is notoriously bad anyway. For fox network, it meant that whenever the Timberwolves played, Firefly was rescheduled for something like 1 in the blessed a.m. It made things difficult for the fans who caught the first three or four episodes and wanted to keep up.

Eventually, this scheduling hassle led fox to believe that no one was watching. Or perhaps they let themselves believe it so they wouldn't have to pony up the expense for such exceptional science fiction television. Opinions vary on that point.

Either way, they cancelled it, leaving a ginormous fan base utterly bereft. So much so that we rallied and plotted and planned and did whatever we had to in order to help Joss Whedon get the movie made.

So in the end, an exceptional movie was made from a cancelled TV series that had no business getting cancelled in the first place. Gorram fox couldn't see past the dollar signs. They didn't know that it was about ten characters (I consider Serenity one of them) making their way through a difficult 'verse. Instead, they chose to spend their coin on reality television and sitcoms.

That's how I recall it, in a nutshell. Anyone got anything else to add, feel free.

I draw...therefore I am. http://www.mnartists.org/Nora_Leverson

Don't forget Summer. She played a ballerina on Angel.

And I think Dobson was in all three, Joss comments on that in the commentary. Which is where one would expect comments, after all.

Just watched Angel season1 and Christina Hendricks(Saffron)played a barmaid in "The Prodigal". Also if you've ever seen Wonderfalls, Jewel Staite plays Heidi Gotts(she's hilarious). The sister in Wonderfalls, Katie Finneran, was on The Inside with Adam Baldwin, and both shows were produced by Tim Minear(also producer on Firefly). There are loads more actors that switch around the Whedonverse and it's funny when you start to spot them in other stuff! It's like finding extra money in your pocket.

Welcome to the verse and sit for a spell. Surren got a nice shiny little corner here. Yeah was kinda same way. Was out in Japan, for a year got back the movie was rasien hell and just came out. Sarge, one of my good friends said I had to go see it. After that caught the series and ever since helpen to continue the struggle. Always nice to see another reinforcement come in to help us with this little shindig of a fight!!!
Enjoy the verse and the people from all walks of life we got around here.

Welcome to the verse! You're gonna love it here; there's so much for you to catch up on (comics, CDs, the Visual Companion [not that kind of Companion], the River Tam Sessions, fanvids, etc). Someone should be along shortly with links.

You're both right.

Carlos Jacott played a deamon in BUFFY (Anne), Richard Straley in ANGEL (The Bachelor Party), and Dobson in Firefly. Jonathan M. Woodward played the Holden, the vamp with a psych degree in BUFFY (Conversations with Dead People), Knox, a recurring charactor on ANGEL, and Tracey.

Andy Umberger, the actor that played D'Hoffryn in BUFFY, also played the Dortmunder Captain in Serenity Pt. 1.

Dobson was a 'counslor' in the episode 'anne' Buffy 2.1 and I think he was in Angel at some point also.

Guess I’d better step up to plate for this one. Here’s a summary of some of the supplementary material that’s out there you should look into (if you haven’t already).

To promote the Big Damn Movie (BDM), Joss Whedon (the creator/director/genius) and Summer Glau (River) filmed a series of short video clips, the River Tam Sessions, to be released as viral marketing. Each is only one or two minutes long and they can be found here: www.session416.com. They purport to be security footage of a series of “sessions” between River and a doctor at the Academy. They’re fun and fascinating to watch. Joss also wrote a three-issue series of “Serenity” comic books that were released over the summer before the BDM premiered. They bridge the gap between the series and the movie, and read like a lost episode of the series. It may be difficult/impossible to find the individual issues at this point, but they’ve been collected into a single graphic novel style trade paperback Dark Horse has released. And speaking of “lost episodes,” you can find an unfilmed “Firefly” shooting script, "Dead or Alive," here on FFF.net at http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45.

Hope you enjoy!
