Serenity and Firefly are holding the Amazon Top Sellers DVD Chart with Serenity at #2 and Firefly at #3. Given the competition around Christmas and the New Year, it would appear to be a fantastic performance.

Firefly has rarely dropped from the Top 10 in the last few months, and WalMart even was forced to suspend sales of Firefly as they ran out of the product.

It would appear that the companies (and I do believe different companies have marketed and published Serenity and Firefly) are making a bit of a killing.

Plus Serenity was at #1 for over a week

I'm eagerly awaiting some proper sales figures. I want to know whether the sales have been good or sequelworthy good.

That seriously makes me happy. I hope these great sales ranks does something for Firefly's popularity.

One of the local morning radio DJs got it a few weeks back, and everytime they start talking about movies, or sci-fi, he goes on and on about Firefly, and specifically, the actress behind Inara. :)

That's such great news! I too would like to see some kind of listing on just how much money the DVD sales have produced. All of this good publicity is fantastic, and I'm sure it's just aiding the sales of or BDM.
Keep praying for a sequel!

Wacky fun!

It'll be great to get sequel, but unforunately it most likely won't be a full on movie. It'll probably be direct to DVD or TV movie and that means a SEVERE drop in budget. Money makes the world go around and that goes for movies.

Oh, is it those pesky penguins that are taking the #1 spot?

But you know what? Firefly/Serenity has always been about the characters, not necessarily the setting or the effects. Even if we had something with a budget somewhere between the show and the movie I'd take it. Heck, if it came down to it, I'd take a show where they crash landed on an island somewhere with something strange on it..

Hmm, wait a sec...

Take Enterprise Season 4 for example: You could actually see how the effects became worse compared to the previous seasons. They often didn't show torpedos, phaser beams and explosions anymore. Archer just said "Fire!" then someone replied "Direct hit Captain! They are destroyed!" - and that was the whole battle scene.

My point is: The show itself still worked thanks to the writing of Manny Coto. Money and fx is not everything as long as the current George Lucas isn't involved

I couldn't agree more! The movie was so very pretty and for the money spent the effects were fantastic.

But the real reason I fell in love with Firefly was the exceptional dialog and each and every character. I've never been a fan of a TV show before. Firefly was love at first sight and years later I still can't get enough.

Even on a TV budget, Firefly would still be far superiour to 95% of the stuff out there.

Does anyone know how the amazon rankings register in units sold? Or how much Serenity DVD has made. Either way it's good news.

Don't forget about the fans willing to help for a lot less than usual. Take Doctor Who, for example. When the BBC released the new series of Doctor Who last year, one of the ways they were able to do many of the special effects was with the help of DH fans who were willing to work on the show and help do things for a lot less than it would cost normally. If Joss REALLY wanted to do some effects for a movie or TV, and didn't have enough money, he could always put a call out for help, and I'm sure he could find some fans somewhere willing to help for a lot less money. That's just my 2 cents worth.

Kudos to Amazon...not sure if this is just on my webpage since I bought Firefly and Serenity at Christmastime, but whenever I go to Amazon and click on "top selling," right by the "DVD's" section the picture is always of Serenity. It has been for the past two weeks, I think. They have a choice of one DVD to highlight, and it's us. Also, they are offering the suggestion to buy Firefly with Serenity as a combo for less. I don't think they were doing that before when I bought them both. I can understand Serenity having been in the top 5 on Amazon for almost three weeks, but it still amazes me that it brought the four-year-old series with it (Firefly has been in the top five more or less since Christmas also).

Well, I know one thing that might be on our favour. There are a lot of people out there who buy whatevers at the top of the book lists. It must be the same with DVD's, which means there are probebly some people out there who are buying just because everyone else is, and hopfully becoming fans.

If you play Nationstates.net check out the region Firefly.
