Sunday morning, Feb 02. Sets are still there. The cargo bay and crew quarters and sickbay on 16, and the main ship, Inaras shuttle and shuttle #2 and the Alliance cruiser on stage 15.I spoke with the office yesterday. No decisions handed down yet. One of several possibilities. If the sets get folded, It's my job to go do it.If they get torn down, then the laborers will do it. If that is the case Fox will probably hang on to some important unique stuff, Like the bridge doors. As for the rest of it, it is all just basic flats and will probably be dismantled and trashed. Standard flats are almost never saved.
All the consoles and such on the bridge were just skeletons and when we would shoot the bridge the art department would come in with all their computer monitors and hook them up so there would be read outs. The rest were just generic blinkies put in by the set dressing and electric departments. The Pilots chair was a from set dressing, possibly a rental so it would go back to the rental house. The sets are massive though by TV standards and a hold and fold would be a really good sign due to the cost involved. I should know more by next week. Keep up the good fight flyers!

NOOCYTE

Thank you so very much for posting this, Sailor! It does give a glimmer of hope. I wonder if ME could somehow take posession of the sets if Fox decides to trash them, against the possibility of reassembling them for some future avatar of the show (/film?). If not, are the plans sufficiently detailed that the sets could be rebuilt (an expensive and rather wasteful proposition, to be sure)?

I cannot help but to feel positive about the fate of Firefly for some very specific reasons.

1. Expensive sets are left standing taking up studio space but from what I have learned a cancelled shows sets are quickly brought down to make room for the next project.

2. On www.fox.com Firefly is still featured as one of their prime shows and the discussion boards are still up and operating and being monitored (some DVD burning topics have been removed).

3. ME still has not said they are quitting and have mentioned they are still in work on getting things going again. First rule of negotiating is tell them no first (as in UPN).

4. Critical reviews of its handling by industry peers and Fox's own admission that the show was bungled in its slot, baseball interruption and the lack of a premier have got to be felt at the highest levels (how many millions spent?).

5. Summers re-run season is fast approaching and the cupboard is quite bare in the way of programming.

In conclusion the show is paid for and they lose very little starting over during the summer (there is plenty of precedent) and maybe recovering some of the money spent. Plus maybe re-starting a show that can be used.

The idea that I may never see a new episode of FF again is literally painfull to me. I have never felt so awful about a cancelled show. Do I dare get my hopes up? Because if I do, and the show doesn't make it, I think I will need industrial strengh therepy to recover.

Great. I can imagine that some moronic lawyer is reading this post, and decides to use that as his defense in his next murder trial: I was tramatized by my show getting cancelled, and the stress drove me to it! And the sad thing is, there are juries out there moronic enough to buy it. Just look at OJ Simpson.

If it seems like I'm in a bitter mood today, I am.
