The new golden age of television has been canceled. It was canceled by reality television. It was canceled by petty in house disputes. It was canceled by all the cheap high rated theatrics that earn a quick buck and can be quickly discarded.
Where are all the real visionaries these days? Have they all thrown their TV’s in the trash and flocked back the real truths of Alfred Bester and Larry Niven? We are a generation that will loose interest in the great American experience. I was always a strong advocate for quality on television. Telling many people that there are better and more entertaing things on other than Joe Millionaire. I told those who treated television as a mindless pursuit of entertainment that there was a greater feel to TV. Yet now I find my self falling out of the great time of television where a struggling network has become to secure to take a chance. The market has become so saturated that it is now dry and void of fun and entertainment. It has become a vast wasteland.

To the shows that we had not the energy or the opportunity to defend.
Firefly
Space Ranger
Millennium
Space Above and Beyond
… and so many other for whom no bell rings.

Good luck to all you creators who still dream.

Add another one to the list: Remember "Tripods" on PBS? Great SciFi; meant to run three seasons but was cancelled after two because of the high production costs associated with special effects.
Weren't computer graphics supposed to drive down the cost of special effects?

Don't forget "The Lone Gunmen."

At this point, I feel that once Buffy, Angel, and Crossing Jordan are off the air, I'll stop watching TV altogether. Unless Miracles is really really good and actually stays on the air.

I understand what you're saying. I have become disapointed in television. Its odd but I nver much cared before it was firefly that was canceled. I always just came to the conclusion that it was ratings, but it wasn't, it was the fact that no one cared or wanted to care.
I thank you for responding

I agree totally, and I am afraid to start watching Miracles because I don't want to get into it and have it ripped from me. Kills me...

The more I hear about Miracles, the more conficted I feel about it, because I am confronted with two harsh realities:

1) If I watch the show, I will likely fall in love with it.
2) It will be cancelled.

I will be stunned if the show makes it. But it looks like tv with a brain, which history shows is the kiss of death.

We live in an interesting time. We can honestly say that we are whitnessing first-hand the death of orginal programing.

Don't forget Now and Again and Brimstone. That is why I don't have the desire to start watching any new shows.
