Yup, you read right. Universal is letting people who are curious about 'Serenity' to watch the first 9 minutes of the movie. To view, go to the following link:

That's amazing! It didn't even need to download or anything, just instantly played!

I guess this is a kind of B-Plan because the movie wasn't overly succesful over the weekend. I think it could work, I can't imagine anyone watching this and not wanting to see more.

I personally feel that they shouldn't have had the first few explanation minutes. The river breakout sequence and Operative scenes would have been enough.

The introduction to The World is very important.
It keeps people from wondering who is this Alliance, and what is this world.
Without it we never know about why people left Earth and what The War was about.
I think it's genius how Joss and the writers started with this intro.

I've emailed the link to this preview to about 5 people...and will send to more later when I get home from work!

Sorry should have been more clear, I COMPLETELY agree that the intro is important to the movie, I just mean for this preview clip they could have cut it out.

FYI: I just plastered this link all over my buddy list. I went from seeing it twice again next weekend with two people to possibly 5 showings with 10+ (assuming some of them bring friends.)

This 9min clip is one of the best ideas I've seen.
...especially since it shows "The Operative" doing what he does.

Because the firm that's handling the marketing for 'Serenity' made it available.

This is all well and good, But who does it reach?
I found it. But Im already a fan. This is a good idea but it needs to be more available on the internet. If it only appears on the official site and fansites then we're just preaching to the choir...

I hope that there are some plans to distribute this some more. It needs to be like on Google or Yahoos homepages, mentioned on the news....something, anything EVERYTHING!

I want more, and I don't think we'll get more by telling other browncoats how great this movie is....
IF I have missed something, I appologize and please enlighten me. Im just trying to do my part for our movie.

That's true and still very good.
I still think that those that fans can email falls within (or pretty close to) the realm of people that can be considered fans....

I mean specifically I wish we could get this message out to those that we don't know. Those just waiting for a movie like this but they don't know it yet.

I think it's a great idea because instead of this:

You: Hey have you seen "Serenity" yet? It's the best gorram movie in the 'verse!
Friend/ Acquaintance: Really? What's it about?
You: Ummm... Well, that's kinda complicated...
Friend/ Acquaintance: I'm sorry, I am too busy for your longer that a sound bite answer and have lost interest now.

You get this:

You: Hey have you seen "Serenity" yet? It's the best gorram movie in the 'verse!
Friend/ Acquaintance: Really? What's it about?
You: It's too great to describe in a few words, but if you go to this web site, you can see the first nine minutes for free!
Friend/ Acquaintance: Hmmm, I think I'll check it out.

Nine minutes plus time to get to a computer later...

Friend/ Acquaintance: Wow! I wonder how quickly I can get to a theater where this cinematic marvel is being shown in its entirety.

And it's even easier if you e-mail then the link, and they can just click on it while they're already vegging in front of the computer!

Thank you Haken, et al! It was lovely seeing those first moments again.

I sent this link out to a bucket-load of friends, family, and, uh, folks that were just on my list, along with the link to Orson Scott Card's very cool review. Quite a few of them have either seen the BDM or are fellow geeks who, haven't found the time, haven't "gasp" heard of it, or just aren't convinced. Many are, well, outside the general know. So, I took the plunge and sent the news out to them (and dared them to call me bad names and make me eat turnip and liver pie if they hated it!) Really.

I also quoted in full Truthseeker's great argument. And so,

Others too are being swayed by my exposing them to this nine minute marvel.

I wanted to know whats to be done about getting the word out to those people that have no connection at all to the browncoats, and what happens? Joss himself posts to say that he is working on it. Go check out his post. No specifics yet, but Im so glad that he's on the same page as me and definetly on the ball as well.

Thanks Joss, um, Mr. Whedon...sir

Does anyone have a FARK.com login?
I think someone should post a link to the 9 minutes on there. It would reach a lot of people (probably people that already have access to it, but you never know and evey bit helps)

I would do it myself but you arent allowed to post if your account is new.

So any browncoat out there with an existing login, please use that site as another way to get the word out.

Again, if someone already has, ignore me. And thanks!

Having just watched those 9 minutes I am not happy about the major contradiction of Simon's history and the knowledge he clearly did not know in FIREFLY and the macho-isation of his persona. I like Simon as a wuss he is not Jayne for good reason.

Joss said he was aware of the contradiction when he wrote it, but that he wanted a more heroic role for Simon, rather than "i just sat around and waited" - Joss knew this would contradict the pilot but said he would have to deal with that later if/and when. Suggesting that perhaps Simon had lied :)

It should work on either Windows or OS X (with Safari, I've heard that Firefox may have problems with it). It's a Java-based app, though, so make sure you have Java enabled for your browser.

Good luck!
