Likes to mess with stuffs.

Courtesy of Skyscraper, who pointed out to me that "Serenity" is currently ranked No. 7 on Yahoo Movie's Top Rated Movie of All Time list.

That's not all, it's currently the No. 1 Top Rated Movie in Theaters.

Wow. That sort of rules. Although what would be shiny beyond shiny is if Serenity made a good showing at the Oscars.

YAY!!! I was reading some of the yahoo member reviews and there was one guy who said he had never seen Firefly but loved the movie so much that he went out and bought the series immediately and says that he'll be seeing it in theaters 2 or 3 more times.
That is exactly the response I know I was hoping non-fans would have. Looks to be a good run to me.

I cast my vote. In fact I voted early and often on other movies. Just doing my civic mayor Daley sort of duty.

I'm thinking the steady build-up is a very real possibility. I know that a friend of mine that I haven't seen in a few years bought the dvd set recently so he could get familiar with the series before going to see it (probably this weekend). And that was with convincing from a not so hardcore mutual friend (who also hasn't seen the movie yet). I'm hoping to head out to see it again with them and probably other friends that have a good chance of becoming true-believers.

I heard a local female movie critic open her Friday radio program with, "there's a movie out there that I had heard very little of, but I believe it's going to to do very well, it's call Serenity. The plot is well thought out, it's funny, it's sad and well acted. Most of the people [actors], you have probably never heard of, but after this weekend, you will." That's as close to verbatim as I can get and it was music to my ears.

DROCCULARI

It's been slowly moving up on IMDb's list of top 250 movies of all time, starting out on Sunday at #149. Now it's at #118, just behind Once Upon a Time in America and just ahead of The Big Sleep; just two spots behind Batman Begins, and six spots ahead of Star Wars VI - Return of the Jedi.

The IMDb user rating also went up from 8.4 on Friday to 8.7 on Sunday (now it's at 8.6). I'd like to think that came from general movie goers discovering the movie and being impressed with it (which I expect they will be), but it was more likely from all the fans like me who couldn't get to a pre-screening finally getting to see it.

LUCIDDREAMS

Wow. I kept thinking that wasn't possible, that more movies would have gotten A's. But I looked up a few of the ones I swore were universally loved and they got mostly B+s! That was the score for Batman Begins and Finding Nemo. Cool .

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Shiny! #1 rated movie in theatres now & #9 rated movie of all time. Not bad for a cancelled tv show, eh?

The Box Office isn't too bad considering Start Trek I made about 12m its first weekend; in current dollars that's more than Serenity but the former had 10 years to build a fan base. If Serenity makes its production costs back in US alone it will probably double Worldwide, and DVD sales and rentals could double that.
Now, ST revived a geek show that went on to spawn sequels of dubious quality with wooden actors that gained a broad audience. Though FF is somewhat less chaste in its themes (and thus edging out a portion of ST's PG audience), by virtue of its cast, dialogue, and plot that outstrips anything ST or even Star Wars offered (despite his bankable appeal, Harrison Ford was and is a one-note actor). FF should be able to build into a solid franchise that any studio would want to be a part of. The Lord of the Rings phenomena proved that even esoteric, violent fantasy is bankable, as long as a singular passionate mind has control rather than a committee.

she's at 15 on the all-time list, with a little down arrow next to her name. Made me sad.
Did my part.

Taking several newbies this Saturday. One's pretty sensitive, so I'm hoping I don't get yelled at. Another talks a lot, so I'm hoping I don't have to yell. Quietly.

This is a gold stuff guys, the only thing is we all know that serenity and firefly is great. We need to start telling all these stories to a Someone who can get firefly back on the air. I think that if they see how good this show is and how the fanbase is growing even without advertising they just might decide to bring it back, and with luck actually advertise it.

I'm not so sure we haven't been... ;) this is the first, and IIRC, the only, fansite that comes up on the first page when you Google "Firefly". And I know that if I was part of Universal or other companies probably watching this like a hawk to see if it was viable enough to continue... I'd occasionally Google it.

Also, these are all available to anyone, these facts.

Although, writing (by hand works best as a convincer, seeing as it can't be faked as easily as email or typewritten) to SciFi Channel or Universal (which owns SciFi, and isn't bloody idiotic Fox).

I can't be the only one who thinks that if this show had started out on SciFi Channel, it would have been the next Stargate in terms of popularity, can I?

By the way, the Firefly box set is at this moment #3 on DeepDiscountDVD.com's Best Sellers list! Yay!. ;)

It should be noted that it's listed as "full frame", though, not widescreen... which is strange.

I heard there's a version of it (that comes only with English and French subs, no Spanish ones) that's anamorphic, and the version I bought is "widescreen, aspect ratio 1.78:1" (is that anamorphic or not? I can't remember). Jeez, how many versions of the set ARE there? This makes shopping around for copies to give as gifts this Christmas a tad harder.

MORALDILEMA

I'm one of the people who had never seen Firefly (no cable). I'm sooo hooked. Seen the movie twice with my kids and we've run through all the epicsodes on the DVD set we bought many times now.

I'm thrilled to find so many people who loved it and want it back...

Oh my, Kaylee! ;)
