"What's the rumpus?"

Hey guys. Sorry to go wildly off-topic (and bring up Firefly), but I need a favor. I tried to post something on Fireflyfans.net discussion about "Fireflygasms" (no, it's not as shippery as it sounds.) Anyhoo, I can't seem to log in, 'cause I work the computer like I'm wearing Strongbad's gloves and I really wanted to post something there. So I'm gonna write it out here and hope 'n' pray (to the meaningless void) that one of y'all will be kind enough to kick it over to that thread. Okay then:

______________________

Dear fan type postguys --

Checking in to say: Rough @%&$#ing week. Trying to work the movie deal, juggling so many balls and dropping them all, basically ending the week going, "I'm done. I'm tapped. Last man down, I don't even think I can do this." Then I hap on this thread, hear all those kick moments and all y'all cooing over them, and I remember why I'm fighting so hard. So when you here dorky sounding things like "The fans' support kept us going", know that on occasion it is not only literally but very specifically true. As in, today. Thanks already.

And, more importantly:

-- Inara on the bed in Mal's room saying "I just hit my head is all". Deep funny.

-- River on the railing. Batgirl!

-- "Little man Loooved fire."

-- "They were little geisha dolls with big heads that wobbled!" "People LOVE those!" Kai made me rewind that four times.

-- "Dear Diary. Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy."

-- "Have you ever been with a warrior woman?"

-- "She ain't moving." When you think Kaylee's talking about Zoe and realize she means Serenity. And every time the lights first flicker in that show I've forgotten what ep I'm in and I get very worried.

-- The part where the crew finds out about River's REAL... oh wait. That's the movie. Never mind.

Or mind in a while.

Thanks again.

Good grief. That just made my day. Now I need to lie down with a cold cloth on my head.

It says so much that the show's creator is fighting for it like this, and I am elated to know that it may continue. Thank you for sharing this.

Keep up the good fight. This project is too good to just fade away. Great writing, great concept, great crew, great cast, great music, great fans.

I hope the problems you're facing can be overcome. And if you need fans to step in with some kind of campaign. You know they will. All you need to do is ask. We'd take it as a kindness if you did.

Seems to me everybody is focusing more on the factr that he tried to post here (which is real cool) than the message himself.

The whole

Mahdi (say, you wouldn't be that thar Kwisatz Haderach, wouldya?), I'd had the same vexing, distressing thought.

However, I would imagine that the process of deaing with dueling studios, lawyers, producers and the like, even when it is going well, is a taxing, twisty affair, apt to sap the mojo from the strongest of us. I can only hope that this is what he was referring to, and not some untoward logjam which actualy threatens our cinematic apotheosis.

Here's hoping!

Mhadi
You forgot to post the next bit... for me it is the MOST important part!

It makes me SO happy to have gone over to the RPGsite and found the thread about Firefly and saw the 'Fireflygasm" term. Which was coined (I believe) by 'SteveD:The Exalted of Tangency' on that site.

I loved the term so much I thought it would be cool to start a thread.

I was hoping the prez of Mutant Enemy (who, I was told lurks here oft times)would see the Fireflygasm thread and he would pass on how much the fans paid attention to the show.

Everybody else here on FFFn jumped right in and make the gamble pay off.

Why did I do it ... I can sympathize about ...

...well as Joss put it - juggling - but juggling on a storm wracked ship!

When you try to convince a person or group of the validity of your idea, it can be a nightmare!

Especially if that person/group is not really interested in the genre of your concept, just where it could 'take them'.

Hard and cold, but still vaild ... I am glad we were able to buck Joss up.

Not just to get Firefly back, but because I can understand, even though I am not in his field of work, the 'problem' is still the same in any venue.

You have to spend SO much energy just to convince the $$$ holders that it CAN be done and will be profitable. When you just want to get your story out.

It is EXUASTING!!!

My heart is right there with Joss!

It helps you when folks understand. I think we have done just that.

"If you can't walk out ... crawl out ... if you can't crawl, find somone to carry you out."

True words. Sometimes you need help, sometimes help comes to you. But most of the time you have to ask for help.

Mr. Whedon: I am glad we all could help in this manner!

Fly Free!!!

My fantasy is that someone with the means will notice all the enthusiam of the new fans and want Firefly on Scifi or some other channel for either a mini series or a weekly TV show.

No kidding Doran, I keep wondering if Joss really knows how much the ranks of Firefly fandom have swelled in the last month. I wonder how much more it would take before a few of those short sited networks that turned the show down last winter would give the idea a second consideration. I think most of us would like that as much if not more than a movie. Oh well, I'm sure ME is keeping close tabs on such things.

Well -- first of all, this board certainly is a great place to be when you're trying to catch up on all the things you missed because you showed up a little late to the party... like me.

I bought the DVDs and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Don't get me wrong, I love "Buffy" and "Angel", but... sci-fi western?

In a nut, I hadn't expected that I'd love Firefly so much. Thinking I'd just watch the pilot, I went back watching "Serenity" all the way through again, this time with the commentary. And after that, I just couldn't stop. I was hooked.

That was a week ago today. I fell in love with that fascinating 'verse and its characters and now I really have to know what'll happen next. :-)

Can't wait to see the movie (I'll keep my fingers crossed), and I can't tell you how thrilled I am that they're actually planning to release a Firefly score soon.

Looking forward to hanging out with you guys,

Keep flying!

It is scary to think that Joss is feeling like a wrung-out towel, one that he might be tempted to throw in. I know enough people in his business to know how exhausting and head-banging-against-brick-wall-frustrating it can be. Of course, we are the helpless audience, waiting on Joss's talent (apparently bottomless) and Universal's wisdom (as yet undetermined).

We should all remember, when we're feeling sad that the series got cancelled, or hungry for more, that Joss et al. must be feeling all this a hundredfold, as they poured heart and soul into making the series happen in the first place. I told cast and crew at LA Comic Con that the only way I could think to thank them was to buy the DVD set for everyone on whom I could force it (see my threat, "Another convert--my God, FOX should read this"). Let's just keep saying to Joss, Tim, and everyone who worked so hard, and had their hearts broken:

T H A N K Y O U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Well, my days of taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle. . . ."

SHSSAY

I will probably be repeating what has been said a thousand times over, but I love Joss Whedon's Firefly and would be euphoric if it was allowed to continue. It's shiny to see the creator of our beloved show posting here, even if the news he had about his struggles worried me.

But since he does read these forums and they are a comfort to him I wanted to post my praise for the show as well. I had pretty much abandoned television until my mom introduced me to Firefly. After years of Friends, Malcom in the Middle, Surivivor, and countless other jejune series like them I had decided I would rather get a root canal than sit and watch tv in the evening. This show had me tuning in religiously to catch the latest adventures of Serenity and her crew. The characters were compelling and dynamic and the actors that played them were wonderful. In the short time the series was on they had managed to create a world I felt was completely realistic and immersed. It has also been a long time that I have seen a show intertwine comedy and drama so well.

This show is one of my favorites and I was heartbroken when it was cancelled. I was also quite surprised because of the quality and popularity of the show. If there is any way to keep Serenity flying I will put my full support behind it. Thank you for a show that has brought me many hours of enjoyment. I hope to see Firefly on the big screen soon.

To: The Boss Browncoat {AKA Joss}:

The next time you despair of the battle, remember that it has taken you only eleven broadcast epiosdes and a DVD release to get to the point of negotiations for a possible movie.

It took Gene Roddenbery three times longer to reach a similar benchmark, and he had three seasons worth of re-runs in every major market in North America to back his posse up.

The reason he succeeded is that he had a quality item, of a kind no one else could quite duplicate. You've got the same. And you're reaping the same kind of response, in a tightly compressed timeframe. No wonder you're feeling stressed.

And -- One of the things that got Roddenberry through it all was was the spirit of the fans. So...

To: The Browncoat Brigade (AKA all the rest of us.)

Take it as a compliment when I say the spirit I find prevading Firefly fandom reminds me (to the point of deja vu) of Star Trek fandom in the early seventies. And if Joss feels a bit more fit for fighting the good fight because he knows we're out there -- well, that's part of the magic too.

Fireflygasms:

Mal: "Oh, I'm a bad man."

Mal: "Let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. And then I get paid."

Zoe: "I need this man to tear all my clothes off."
Wash: "Work, work, work..."

River: "Also, I can kill you with my brain."

Folksinger: "--Jayne, the man they call Jayne!"
Simon: "No, this is what it feels like to go mad."

Major Fireflygasm: The entire gag reel, including the easter egg.

Someone please tell me again how we know this is an authentic Joss post? Who's ALLYSONGURL? People have impersonated him in the past and it really ticked him off. Please, set me straight. Thanks.

Joss posts at Buffistas. He was having a difficult time posting here, so he posted at Buffistas and asked that it get posted here.

Who am I? I'm a wee fan. I was awake and about when he was posting, and so I carried it here, as it was intended for you.
