Just wondering if any other FL browncoats would be attending the FX Show Jan 27-29. Alan Tudyk and Summer Glau are attending. We got our tickets today.

It's at the Expo Center at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando. Would only be a few hours' drive from Daytona. Here's the show site:

We went on Friday for the "preview". The three day wristband is water proof, so everyone SHOULD be able to shower--something people at cons seem to shy from.

It is going to be a MADhouse on Saturday & Sunday--there were a lot of people in the dealer rooms, which the aisles are VERY cramped (so if you have a wheelchair or stroller be warned)and the staff, bless their hearts, knew very little about what was going to be where.

Building B WILL house the main "stars", tho all the "creative artists" are in another building with the porn stars--excuse me, the "hotties" of FX.

And yes, they will have a "fast pass" system for getting a time to see one's favorite star, again, they were unable to explain to us how exactly that was to work-but the gist was that we should arrive early.

Hope all have loads of fun!

Hi all,

I just got back from a wonderful morning at the Orlando FX. Of course, the highlights were Alan and Summer - more on that and pictures at www.fireflyverse.com later...

But it was just as great to see so many FL Browncoat compadres again! :-)

The lines for Alan and Summer were the longest from the moment we got there. 10:30ish? The second biggest draw seemed to be the Potter kids and I must admit the Potter fans were there in force, too.

Alan was charming and funny. Summer was beautiful and sweet. For those of you going to future events for autographs, they've gone up from the $20 I heard about at DragonCon to $25 here at FX. Double-edged sword being the fact that I love the actors are getting so much support and their "stock" is rising but it does cause a bit of a gulp to chunk down that much cash. Still I have these wonderful momentos and great memories now.

More (better) stories are coming I'm sure... :-)

Oh sorry, I meant to put in a note about the "fast-pass". Basically, they are passing out paper tickets and posting on a marker board what numbers are allowed to get in the line.

This means you have to keep going back or sending a cell phone buddy back to check on the number status. Also, you never know when Alan and Summer may be on a break, lunch, etc.

The area isn't too spread out so it's not a huge burden - just an inconvenience.

We just got back.

It certainly was a zoo and the biggest problem was that the con was poorly organized in terms of the interface with the fans.

Autographs are $25 Cash (didn't see any cc) per one signature; pictures to sign are available in the line. Summer is very sweet (she was there with her sister) and Alan is quite funny, as you can imagine. Both were willing to take pictures across the table (I'm sure they'll be tired tonight).

Ah, that's so cool. Summer told me about her sister... Was she there with Katelyn? or Chrissy?

And of course what I'm sure, everyone wants...PICTURES AND STORIES!

We just got home too. We ended up plunking down a nice chunk, but are so pleased with our mementos. Our photos came out beautifully. Once my husband gets them scanned I can post a link if anyone is interested.

I will agree with everyone else that this is the most disorganized convention I've ever been to. My husband wanted to see George Romero, and we got there at the very beginning, and no one from the show was there, so he had some fan taking the money. I don't know if he even got money from half the people in the line at the time. Also, there was no way to really shop the booths because the aisles were too small.

But the important part is that Alan was gracious and funny, and Summer was sweet and looked beautiful, and I loved that they were interacting back and forth -- "You know, there was a PSYCHIC on the ship that could have warned me to duck, but NO, she wanted my job!" and so on. You could tell that they were enjoying themselves, but they will most likely be quite tired this evening. It was such fun meeting them.

Just posted a long review at http://www.serenitystuff.com/2006/01/29/fx-convention-review . Short version: Hectic, crowded, not enough to do, impossible to browse comfortably, and Alan and Summer were worth every minute of it.

Roger all the above, waited about 25 min to get in and until about 2pm it was packed. I entered the costume contest as Wash but didn't make the final cut. We got to go now to the Hard Rock in Orlando for the FX Party. Don't know which celebrity judges will be there but I will write more tomorrow. We had a blast!! Allan and Summer were fantastic, Summer loved the Best Performance award from all the Firefly fans. She kept it with her all day long. Anyway more about the comic con tomorrow we are heading back.

Did anyone go to the costume contest at Hard Rock Orlando? Did our BDHs show up?

Yes,our BDH both Summer and Alan were there as Judges. The FX party at the Hard Rock was fantastic got to meet a lot of local browncoats. I was hoping we might get a little Q&A session but that didn't happen. Summer and Alan did ask some question and had some funny comments. Summer came out after the show to the party talked with a few people and some of us took pictures. Didn't see Alan after the show. Only one entry with a Serenity theme made it to the Costume contest, a young girl dressed as Zoe wearing the dress that Zoe wore in the movie. She did not win but made it as a finalist. Day two is underway last day to see Alan and Summer
"in the Crappy town were they are Hero's".
