Likes to mess with stuffs.

As some of you may have noticed, multiple posts have been a problem lately ever since I moved the website to a new server. I'm trying to track down the cause but is having some difficulties in determining whether it's a software issue or a hardware related one.

If possible, can those of you who have been affected by this multiple post problem tell me what was it exactly you did before you realized that your post have been posted numerous times?

One scenario would be:

enter new post.
click submit.
got page not found.
hit back button.
click submit again.
got back to thread.
saw that two duplicate posts have been posted.

Thanks.

Haken, when I click "submit", I keep getting one of those "Page Cannot Be Displayed" messages (text below). I suspect this is what's happening to the others, too. The only reason I haven't actually double-posted is because I've been opening another window to check and see if the post really did go through the first time, before I try to click it again.

*Edited because I realized my first post wasn't quite accurate. It's the "500" message, not the "404" message. Haken, I doubt you need the actual text of the message -- I'm sure you know which one I mean -- but just in case, I've cut-and-pasted the text below:

The page cannot be displayed
There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.

That's the same problem I had. I just didn't use the back button, because I saw that everyone was having double post isssues. So it sounds like your savemessage feature is working, it's just the navigating back to the thread that breaks.

so here is the theory....

People hit "post my response" button then get the error message, and thinking that their message didn't post they go back and hit the button again and again and again.

Anyway that is my theory :)

at first I kept getting a login box that asked me to login to the site that poped on top of the page. Then I got the savemessage.asp error....seems to me like it's the webserver app that as some trouble with asp if you didn't do any modification to the page itself.

Well, my experience was while I was drinking my first cup of coffee (I swear! Really!).

I hit post and got an error message.

I posted again - I didn't realize till I'd done this six or 7 times that the thread had actually been posted.

Along with that, I was getting a popup network login screen asking for user name, password and domain. Eek!

Having seen this happen before when networks are goofy, I just ignored the popup screen.

Even as we speak, I continue to get a "The page cannot be displayed" error message every time I post. The difference is that now I KNOW the posts are going through and ignore it.

Yeah, that happened to me too. But here's the thing: it has only happened to me on windows computers. My Mac doesn't do that.

Very likely this is a useless bit of info, but that didn't stop me from posting!

Also, I notice that the emoticons don't work anymore. I get the little red X of doom that lets you know a image doesn't work. Ex:

My error message is:
Quote:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0046'

Permission denied

/savemessage.asp, line 262

And also, the tag log has gone bye bye. As in, there's a big white box where the tag log should be.

The permission denied problem has been fixed. The error was caused by the site not having the required permission to send email notifications.

Thanks a bunch.

On to the next problem...
