The people in Firefly already have done a fantastic job, great set design, wonderful sound and some incredible acting talent.

So let's say the Big Damn movie does wonderful, but there are plans to make the next one shine even brighter by attracting the mass public who still don't know the show, and by having a big actor/actress Firefly will be seen by more of the public in fireflyII - Serenity2. Maybe Joss decides to bring in a big star hollywood, maybe a bounty hunter, or to fill the role of whatever...be it one of those high-class fancy people who have lots of money and duel with swords, or maybe another person with perhaps some kind of psychic powers, or a big movie star or maybe Asian/Foreign film star, or someone who will play an Alliance commander.

Who would you pick ?

Anthony Hopkins -
great talent and made very good films
Chow yun fat -
HongKong movie star
Julia Roberts -
has had a lot of mainstreme sucess
Morgan Freeman -
has done some splendid acting
Peter O'Toole -
man of great professional skill and knowledge
Laurence Fishburne-
done passionate and skilled roles plus I'm sure he's seen the Firefly DVDs
Christopher Lee -
if you need a person playing monsters and villains this is the man
Maggie Cheung -
another Chinese talent and she's done very elegant roles
Gabriel Byrne -
very skilled and has done some nice work
Elizabeth Hurley -
made many successes in her film work

Do you think some of these folk would do very well or
Anyone else that you think might play a good role in a Firefly movie ?

Hard to say
Clint Eastwood for a sherif, Gong Li China's famous actress, the lovely Halle Berry , or Max von Sydow ?

One of those big name actors might have to be given a smallish role so that their input doesn't distract from the overall direction of firefly. It might be that just two or even one big movie star is enough

Sandra Oh. Not a superstar, except in my book, but a good actress and English is her native tongue.

Xiang Xi Li (sp?), from Crouching Tiger and other films. Her English isn't bad, I understand.

Pierce Brosnan could be a great villain.

I always liked the idea of Christopher Walken, as some kind of slightly obsessed, high-ranking official on either side, Alliance or Independent, and I would absolutely love the idea of Bruce Campbell (granted he's considered a B-movie actor, but come on, he's better than some well known A-movie "stars") as anyone, preferably a fellow transport-ship captain or a swarthy businessman.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I don't want to see any superstars anywhere near Serenity (excepting the fact that our BDHs are going to be superstars soon).

But some good character actors in juicy roles is another thing altogether. How about Gary Oldman, Lance Henrikson, Terry O'Quinn, or John Glover?

I have to second the motion for no Hollywood superstars in the movie (as they tend to distract viewers from the intimacy of the story). However, for arguements sake, I wouldn't mind seeing Harrison Ford (is he still a superstar?) do a two-minute cameo. Might be amusing.

Took the words right outta my mouth.

Also, 2 words: Rip Torn.

I have no idea what he'd possibly be, but he amuses the hell outta me, and then I'd be amused, and that would be, uh, good.

Tom Cruise!! I want Tom Cruise on Serenity! That would be crazy. He could do a Collateral-like role as a contract killer.

Or maybe Bruce Willis could be an Alliance Fed that realized that the Serenity Crew is worth fighting alongside of. I'd slay puppies and kittens to see that one.

I'd also like to see Jason Statham (Transporter) or Jean Reno.

No superstars, please! Good character actors, on the other hand, sure, but Firefly just wouldn't be Firefly with a recognizeable big star on board.

There is only ONE Hollywood and International Superstar I want to see acting in the feature film epic sci-fi story Serenity:

Joss Whedon.

although props to the person who said "Sandra Oh," cuz that's arthouse enough to not distract from The Cast, while still bein' suh-weet.

Sure, Harrison Ford can be Mal's father , I'm with everyone on that.

See I'm torn here. While big names would draw more people, I feel as though Julia Roberts and Morgan Freeman are just a bit too recognizable as *themselves* that some people may have trouble forgetting who they are and believing in the character...

I'd love to see Joss as one of Badgers thugs.

While watching The Train Job with commentary, it occured to me that since Joss found a decent guy to play Badger (A role he originally kind of wanted himself), why couldn't they have stuck him in there as one of the thugs... the guy behind the typewriter for example ?

Just a thought,

You know, I can't think of anybody that I'd like to *see* in a Joss production. I'm sure he and his crew will choose better performers than I could.

On the other hand, I'd love to *hear* Alison Krauss & Union Station, or maybe Mark Knopfler. Knopfler has prior film scoring experience (Princess Bride) and his work over the last few years has carried just the right mood, I think.

I would enjoy seeing minor characters from other Whedonverse shows come on board (briefly)
just as Jonathan Woodward was great in The Message
I would get a huge kick out of some other character actors
who only the fans will recognize:

Camden Toy could be a Reaver,
Adam Busch could play some sneak theaf,
Tom Lenk could play another genus from 'the academy'
only his brain sugery was completed...and successful....

Personally, I'd kind of like to see it the way it is now - relative unknowns getting their opportunity to shine and show the world just how damn good they can be.

Simon: You...you came for us.
Mal: You're on my crew.
Simon: Right. I guess I just didn't...you don't even like me.
Mal: You're on my crew. Why we still talking about this?

Oldman would remind me too much of 5th Element, hehe

But Lance Henrikson and Bill Paxton would be great in the sequel.
I think they could play anything from shady fugitives to hired mercenaries (either hired by Mal or another party).

Or some other people from the Colonial Marines from Aliens.... Jeanette Goldstein (Vasquez) and Michael Biehn (Hicks)

They are no superstars but I think they would fit in quite well.

Even can imagine them all together in uniforms and browncoats as some lost squad on a backwater planet/moon were they still think that the war is going on :)

I think it'd be cool to see some actors from other good sci-fi series or movies. I see Sigourney Weaver as an Alliance bigwig, or Brent Spiner as a shady dealer with a big job for the crew. I think if you're gonna have guest "stars" (though I agree that casting 'big name superstars' dilutes the integrity of the film), they should be from the sci-fi universe because they (generally) understand that the vision, as well as the fan appreciation, is (generally) more important the fame (though it IS nice to make that mad ca$h).

All that said, I think it'd be interesting to see Wash visited by an old buddy from back home, played by Will Smith (sci-fi veteran and Alan Tudyk's "I, Robot" castmate).

Well, Bruce Campbell definitly, but I'm more interested in other tv sci-fi vets and character actors showing up in the movie.

Like one bit of stunt casting I'd like to see is Robert Picardo aka. The Doctor off of VOYAGER. And he'd be involved in the Simon plot-line. Maybe as a former teacher from his Medacad days or a relative or something like that.

I just think that it would be funny to see one sci-fi tv doctor (and a hologram, no less) conversing or criticizing another.

GUNRUNNER

Gordon Michael Woolvett AKA Harper from Andromeda would be good. He's the one of the few solid actors on that show and makes its viewable. A crazy, horny, tormented, and occasionally not so nice guy like “The Harper” would fit right in on Serenity.

Hell I was cheering for him to pull the trigger when he had his gun aimed at Kevin Sorbo in a recent episode.

Bruce Campbell and 'The Doctor' on Voyager would be neat too.

Has anyone heard of any big-name actors who were fans of the show? I just wonder if they put the word out they were looking for a particular part in the second movie if certain actors would ASK to be in it. It would be nice to have a big-name actor who really cares that it does well from a personal standpoint instead of just a professional one.

I don't think hollywood stars should be in it at all. One of the things I like most about the whole Firefly universe is how the ordinary people are shown to be extraordinary.

Add an extraordinary face to the mix and it would seem false.

But if we're going for the extraordinary - how about putting in a spaceship that everyone knows! I would definitely find it interesting if the original Enterprise is suddenly seen orbiting a nearby planet or if the TARDIS hoves into view, only to dematerialise seconds later!
