Maybe this has been discussed before, but it never hurts to resurrect a good thread.

I was thinking of the opening scenes in OMR when Inara is walking with Mal after the shootout. Her reaction to his noble actions seemed so familiar and then I realized that Mal is just a modern day (future) Robin Hood. A fact that has probably been very obvious to most on this board.

The comparison of most of character then became some what obvious too.

Mal - Robin Hood
Inara - Maid Marion
Jayne - Little John
Book - Friar Tuck

There needs to be a Wil Scarlet, would that be Zoë or Kaylee?

There was a direct reference to the Robin Hood thing in Ariel (I think): talking about what to do with the loot from the hospital.

I think it was Wash saying something like "Well, this stealing from the rich and selling to the poor is all fine and nice ..."

Consider that a paraphrase, not a quote, LOL!

I've been think about this, and depending how you look at it Zoe might be a better fit for Little John than Jayne, not physically (Jayne has that hands down) but by the fact that she is his lieutenant. I think Will was third in line, so rank wise that would be Wash?

Yeah, they were on opposite sides of a log, trying to use it to cross a stream. Robin notched an arrow and told John Little to step aside. John called him a coward, because all he was holding was a staff. So Robin cut down a sapling, made a staff and squared off against him. After John beat him Robin called his band, and convinced John to join. So the dunked him in the river and changed his name from John Little to Little John.

Robin met a lot of his followers that way. In fact, he usually loses and then convinces them to join him.
