Just noticed in The Message that they're keeping the burnt out wreck of the mule in the hold. Wouldn't that be just wasting space and fuel?

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I think Kaylee probably fixed it up so that it could still be of some use, but they didn't bother repainting it or didn't get the chance to, and then they got the new one that was all hover-craft like and cool and were able to get rid of the old one.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. A troll's hair is still pointy, even when it's wearing a hat.

I'm guessing that the concensus here is that some of the $$ they got for fencing The Lassiter ray gun went toward purchasing the new mule ? Did they spend the money wisely? Dosen't seem like much else was upgraded, save for the cockpit.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Well, that's what the novel says. Makes as much sense as anything. They probably also got some shiny new parts for the engine and some real food while they had the extra cash, and then times got tight again. Maybe we'll get more on that with the release of 'Better Days'.

The mule probably still worked, it was just a little burnt.

And they totally had more money for more flashing lights in the cockpit if they fenced the Lassiter. Cause everybody knows that flashing lights equals science.

Reminds me of an episode of Red Dwarf:

Rimmer: Step up to red alert!

Kryten: Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb!

Well they could have saved the cost of a shiny new hovermule and just bought some paint... although that means getting away from the reavers on Lilac would have been a tad difficult...

They consulted with Joss, who told them they had to get the hover-mule for the BDM because you can't have a movie without a hovercraft chase.

Yeah, I agree. The futuristic "car chase" scene would have been sadly lacking if they were driving around their modified four wheeler. But slightly on the hi-larious side.

Redlava imagines that chase scene with Keystone Kops music in the back ground.

HeHeHe.

If I weren't so gorram lazy I'd pop the Serenity CD in and copy down Joss's quote about how he had to have a hovercraft or no movie.

*now I have KK imbedded in my tiny bun mind...*

Or for us British Browncoats, the Benny Hill title music... (Otherwise known as Yakety Sax)

Edit: HA! It actually exists!

Benny Hill was actually where I went, and I'm not even British.

Only thing wrong with the Benny Hill Serenity vid is that with that music , I keep expecting there to be *S*O*M**E* flash cuts of blondes in bikinis. ( or at least Inara.)

Very funny video, I never would have put the BDM and Benny Hill together. Other than the aforementioned women in bikinis we also would need several old, bald men sporting bad toupees to chase them around.
