...the convention, that is.
Anyone going? any idea what time I should get there on the Friday???
I'm completely new to the convention thing, but looking forward to it... if I ever get confirmation that my ticket has been processed.

Yes! Another Convention virgin for me to meet and corrupt! Actually this is my first Firefly con. I'm only an old hand with the Buffy ones!

Don't worry about the tickets yet, apparently they won't get posted till end of July at the latest. If you're worried you should keep checking your credit card statements to check if the money's been taken yet.

Not sure about when they'll let us in on Friday. I'm waiting for an update. I'll be camped out on the door though! How about we all meet up for breakfast and get to know each other before registration?

If you scroll through this thread you can see what I look like.

If you see me don't forget to say hi! I'll be there on my own (apart from the wondewrful friends I've made here)

Ooh... breakfast... have to see how early I can get down.

Anyway - I shall look out for you... but I imagine you'll be dressed slightly differently?

I sent the request a week ago and haven't heard back, sent an email yesterday and am waiting for a reply.

It took 6 weeks for my credit card to be charged (but the guy organising it was out of the country at the time). I recommend phoning him in a couple of weeks if you've not heard.

Keep checking for updates. If anyone sees the themes for parties announced do shout out. I can't wait to get started on costumes (not compulsary but very fun!)

I plan on dressing as Zoe at some point (not to a standard to enter the ubiquitous fancy dress comp, just for fun!)

ooh, fancy dress, hadn't thought of that! I may have something Indian-ish, but this will mean carrying it in a backpack across the globe. We'll see.

Is meeting for breakfast leaving a large margin, or will the doors be open early morning?? or will we be waiting around till the afternoon??
I'm completely new to conventions of any kind...

6 weeks is awhile... I'll give it one more week.

Thanks

I'm hoping they publish more details soon, like when we're first allowed in for one!

We should have a schedule appear at some point. Let me know if you hear anything before me!

Give me a chance... I only just spotted the thread!

Yes, I'll be at S3. I'm also a convention virgin but I'll be going with Emma and Leaina.

Looking forward to meeting you! Should be incredible amounts of fun!

...I was concerned about the lack of tickets also but the charge showed up on my bak statement so I just figured they were sending the tickets out later!

Perhaps the snake is scaring away some folk?

I think the trick is to live in Canada. My badge arrived in the post last week. Hopefully this means I don't have to line up for registration, and can get straight on to breakfast!

See ya there.

You sound like you know what you are talking about - for a completely ignorant person, could you give me a vague outline of what I should expect for the 3 days?? (other than meeting some of our BDHs and getting very little sleep...) How many people will be there? What will we do all day?

See you there! Looking forward to meeting you all.

Well, I can tell you of what past Buffy cons have been like (because it's more fun to reminisce than work!)

I'm expecting about 500 people (sounds a lot but it's a big place so that's usually a good number). I've been to cons with more than this and they're not so much fun. They lack the personal touch!

Days are always action packed. There will be a series of talks from the BDHs listed as coming plus there's always at least one surprise guest (I'm really hoping for someone good!). I particularly like the group talks where they spark off each other. Then there are the dealers rooms where you can buy loads of shiny original stuff (bring cashy money, they don't usually take cards). There will be signing sessions too which are a fun way to get close and chat briefly to the stars and take away momentos. They often have photograph sessions too, which usually cost extra. In the past they've been £15, which was totally worth it for a hug with James Masters!
In the evenings there is always a party! They are a blast! Many people come dressed up which is great fun to watch! Sometimes the stars come to party with us. I have boogied down with Joss before. He's an ... enthusiastic dancer!

They'll be unique stuff too, anything from charity auctions (the Buffy lot auctioned off their bums for pinching! Plus there were original props that went for a song!) to competitions. I just can't wait....*squeals off in excitement so intense I may have to go and lie down!*

Moi? Haha! I, too, am a "convention virgin", though I won't be by the time S3 occurs. I plan to be violated, as it were, at DragonCon in Atlanta.

My events information is sketchy. Along with the badge I received a small brochure which mostly details do's and don'ts of picture taking and autograph seeking, neither of which strikes my fancy anyway. The brochure included a poor, not to scale map.... Oh... here's a section entitled "Schedule". Starts off by saying, "Come on guys... I won't have a schedule sorted until about a month prior." The section ends by saying we should keep an eye on the website.

I have a room at the Thistle for the three nights, which I'm sharing with a fellow 'Coat from across the pond. I imagine that floor space is negotiable!

Did I mention sketchy?

Thanks Emma, sounds like fun! Can't wait. (Even more than I couldn't wait before.)

Based on what you've said I'll definitely be there early on Friday (having no idea what to expect, I had planned to get there in the afternoon)...

See you in London!

Cozen - Have fun at DragonCon! I was actually tossing up between going to DragonCon and Serenity3 and decided that Atlanta was out of my way on my trip and London wasn't, hence...
Anyway, kudos for sounding like an expert!
Month prior - gotcha. Oh well.
I have yet to book my room, but will... soon.

See you in London!

Well I never, Cozen is going!

I am a ye-olde FFF randomite, now alas I am a sporadic lurker looking for S3 threads. I see it here!

I repeat Cozen is going!

*falls off chair in shock and perhaps unfettered excitement*

PS Emma & co, you can get to the hotel whenever you want and will probably be able to register mid-afternoon.
PPS The parties are easily the best bit - especially if you find a cool group to stay up all night and go to brekkie with!

Cozen is going!

Does that mean that the convention won't officially start till the afternoon/evening of the Friday?

Very confused,

Oh yes, much of it and more...with chocolate and vodka probably. Ah, good times

Minime, yes, the con doesn't officially start until the opening ceremony around 8ish convention time (think late). People seriously start gathering and chatting around 5 or 6, unless they have arranged to meet earlier.

Most S3 attendees post at Cant Stop the Signal if that is of any help.

Cozen is going! Anyone else from across the pond?

A few links to help:

You have to register for both forums but there's usually something going on of some interest.

Oh and I'm going to S3 too.

Another question - I called the Thistle Hotel to book a room and they said they were full that weekend... Any suggestions? Will I miss out on all the fun?
