Did you read the earlier posts of this thread, pointing out that CM rating on RT was so horrendous that RT had to revamp their entire system to artificially reverse the rating for CM, and deleted possibility of audience input?

Yeah but that's the audience score not the critic's score. And it was an audience who had zero opportunity to have actually seen the movie. So, it had nothing to do with the actual movie.

Not true. That was not the audience score, because Rotten Tomatoes never kept track of the Audience Score for any movie before it came out. Until Captain Marvel's "Want To See" score dipped to 26%, they did have a "Want To See" score for movies.

Rotten Tomatoes is owned by Fandango. Fandango recently created the position of "President" for their company and gave it to Paul Yanover, who's job title before that was "Digital Executive" at Disney, who own's Marvel. Disney stands to lose a lot of money if Captain Marvel doesn't do well.

The only official scores out now are from critics ratings (which Rotten Tomatoes is still lying about overall, by giving "fresh" ratings to reviews which are obviously negative reviews).

Metacritic's aggregate of Captain Marvel is now down to 65.

https://www.metacritic.com/movie/captain-marvel?ref=hp

Rolling Stone - 80
Entertainment Weekly, Vanity Fair, USA Today - 75
New York Times - 75
RogerEbert.com, Associated Press - 63
Slate, Vox, The Guardian - 60
San Francisco Chronicle, Washington Post, Hollywood Reporter - 50
Time - 40
New York Post - 38

Publications in bold above, are the articles about the movie written by female critics... also dispelling the myth that some online trash rags are trying to spread that only male critics have been giving negative reviews to the movie.

Other Metacritic aggregates for comparison.

Iron Man (79/C+): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/iron-man
Thor (57/F)
Black Panther (88/B+): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/black-panther
Guardians of the Galaxy (76/C): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/guardians-of-the-galaxy
Ant Man (64/D): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/ant-man
Wonder Woman (76/C): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/wonder-woman
Avengers (69/D+): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-avengers-2012
Avengers: Age of Ultron (66/D): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/avengers-age-of-ultron
Avengers: Infinity War (68/D+): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/avengers-infinity-war

Older comic book movies:

X-Men (64/D): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/x-men
Spider-Man (73/C-): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/spider-man
Spider-Man 2 (83/B-): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/spider-man-2
Batman (Keaton) (69/D+): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/batman
Batman Begins (Bale) (70/C-): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/batman-begins
Superman (80/B-): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/superman
Superman II (87/B+): https://www.metacritic.com/movie/superman-ii

It should be noted that when you look at a legitimate review aggregate like Metacritic, comic book movies don't tend to do very well overall since, if said film doesn't have a political message/agenda, the genre usually doesn't fair well overall in the critic community.

Would it be fair to say that Black Panther was the greatest comic book super hero movie ever made? Of course, I'll leave that for you to decide for yourself, but if we're to go only by critics reviews, that would look to be the case by a pretty wide margin. The only other one I could find that was in the 80's at all was Spider-Man 2.

Anyhow... Captain Marvel right now is rated just under Age of Ultron, even with all of the hype and claims that it's a movie about Feminism, and it's so important for women to see that there have been several successful kickstarter campaigns to raise money to buy tickets for underprivileged girls in bad communities to be treated to this wonderful Girl Power blockbuster that will change the world.

But it scores lower than Age of Ultron... Sandwitched in between AoU and Ant Man with a perfect "D" score of 65.

Age of Ultron was the last straw for me. I've tuned out of comic book movies ever since then. Mindless entertainment for people who are looking for mindless entertainment.

EDITED TO ADD: I added Wonder Woman's metacritic score. A 76, the same as Guardians of the Galaxy. I have not seen a DC movie since the 2nd Christian Bale Batman, so I couldn't compare the two, but even at a 76, Guardians was probably my favorite comic book movie out of the 8 or so that I've seen that weren't Keaton/Bale Batman flicks which were head and shoulders above any other comic property, IMO. (Of which Keaton's first only rated 69 and Bale's first only rated 70)

EDITED TO ADD 2: I added Superman and Superman II, pretty much where it all began.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

I mentioned to some on YouTube they'd better offer up some comment on the low ' want to see 'score before it dipped to 25 % and then - wham! It vanished, just before it reached that epic level.

The access media drones and SJW types falsely reported that RT's " audience score " was inappropriately influenced by trolls and bad actors.

WRONG !

It was an honest tally of what REAL fans were thinking ! But the suits at Disney couldn't deal w/ the blow back from Brie's asshat performance of whining that she didn't want to see 40 yr old WHITE guys reviewing her movie!

Bitch.

I was hoping you would post comparison scores for films without female empowerment, like Aliens, Terminator 2, Buffy, Serenity, Resident Evil, Fast & Furious, Fifth Element, Aeon Flux, Ultraviolet, Hanna, Kick Ass, Alita, Catwoman, Widows, Oceans 8, Atomic Blonde, Red Sparrow, Hunger Games, Underworld, etc.
At least you included Wonder Woman, and no need for Ghostbusters Femme.

I could do that.

Keep in mind that most of these movies are not going to be critical darlings, except for the more recent ones because of the SJW aspect. (Also, Alita is universally hated by SJWs for some reason). I don't expect much higher rankings than the 80's for most of these.

Hell... It wouldn't surprise me if Oceans 8 and Ghostbusters 2016 got higher reviews than Aliens and Terminator 2.

We shall see...

Windows? Not sure if you meant Open Windows (47/F) or Facing Windows (55/F)

Top 5 titles on this list:

Aliens (84/B)
Kill Bill 2 (83/B)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV Show) (80/B-)
Wonder Woman (76/C)
Terminator 2 (75/C)

(I'll let you decide if one or more of these should be knocked off this list for Serenity... or if Terminator 2 should be that far down on the list, for that matter)

Ghostbusters 2016 (60/D) was reviewed as a better movie than all of the following on the list:

Buffy The Vampire Slayer (Movie), every Fast & the Furious movie except for FF6 (61/D), every Resident Evil movie, The 5th Element, Ultraviolet, The Messenger, Kick Ass 2, Alita: Battle Angel, Catwoman, Red Sparrow, and every Underworld movie.

Captain Marvel (65/D) is currently rated as better than every single movie on this list except for the following:

Aliens, Terminator 2, Buffy (TV show), Serenity, Kick Ass, 3 of the 4 Hunger Games films, Kill Bill 1 & 2 and Wonder Woman.

Take Aways: Before SJW culture, it doesn't seem like movies with strong female protagonists were given an inflated value just on that virtue.

Mila Jovovich must be too pretty for the SJWs. Her movies were universally panned. Even The 5th Element, which I thought was pretty spectacular and I've never found anybody I know that didn't like it.

Oh... and how could I forget....

According to critics, not only is Black Panther (88/B+) the best Comic Book Superhero movie that was ever made, but it was also better than Aliens (84/B), Kill Bill 2 (83/B), Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV Show) (80/B-), Terminator 2 (75/C), Serenity (74/C), Firefly (TV Show) (63/D) and Galaxy Quest (70/C-), Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (87/B), Edge of Tomorrow (71/C-), Every Mission Impossible movie (Rated from 59 to 86), the original Jurassic Park (68/D+), Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (82/B-), Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (58/F), Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (58/F), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (65/D), [lost ark not rated], Ghostbusters (1984) (71/C-), Ghostbusters II (56/F), Superman (80/B-), Superman II (87/B+).

It even beat out The Last Jedi, which comically gets an aggregate of 85 compared to all of the great movies on this list, and is rated as the 2nd best Star Wars movie of all time by critics.

Not only that, but it ranks as 292 on the best movies ever made with that score of 88, which really means it's tied with quite a few other movies rated at 88 for number 245. Movies that include Brazil, Ghost World, The Little Mermaid, Thelma & Louise, Up, Quiz Show, Toy Story 2 and Mary Poppins.

I wonder why?

Why did nobody post pics of Elizabeth Olsen in Wind River?

Because it was, after completion, distributed by Harvey?

That means Elizabeth was victimized by SJWs.

Also, M-EW in The Thing.

Sure...

Even in the 50's and 40's as well... Remember this was just a small list, and generally these types of movies don't do very well unless there is an agenda behind them.

Would you consider these mediocre movies, or even below average?

Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (58)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (58)
Fast and the Furious (58)
The Thing (80's version) (57)
Ghostbusters II (56)
Alita: Battle Angel (54)
The Fifth Element (52)
Underworld (42) (highest Underworld was 44)

There might be some nostalgia goggles on with me here, sure, but I think those ratings are pretty unfair when you reference them against even your average comic book movies of today.

And I'm sorry... there's no fucking way that The Thing deserves the same rating as the lowest rated Marvel movie that I could find (Thor / 57). It's one of the horror/sci-fi greats of the 80's and still holds up today with the practical effects.

Do Right, Be Right. :)

Yeah. We're old dudes now. The 90's is that same mythical time to the kids growing up today that the 60's and 70's were to me. In my experience it's not until you reach your early to mid thirties that you realize that was really just yesterday.

History doesn't mean anything to people with money and an agenda. I'm sure a lot of kids are going to leave Captain Marvel believing there were elite fighter squads made up of nothing but women in the ancient days of late last century.

I imagine you don't understand the difference between Fighter Pilots and others, and/or why women have tremendous difficulty competing with men for these assignments.

And I suppose you are unaware of the Clinton disasters with women in the military.

Brie sure does make use of the sexy sideways glance , which Suzanna Hoffs from The Bangles perfected, so many years ago.

She's a Disney version of Avril Lavinge, and her C.M. is a Disney level Avenger. Makes sense.

I have to wonder, did she get worked over by man /men in the music industry, Harvey Weinstein style, as a young starlet , and maybe that's what is at the heart of her ' woman scorned ' / SJW wahmen power routine ?

Or is she just over playing the drama as a means to draw attention to herself ?

Not sure if you guys actually subjected yourself to that terrible song or not... I wasn't joking though... Most pop crap is pretty alright for background noise, afterall.. that's what it's designed to be. But the "band" is terrible, and her singing was horrible as well. I think Rebecca Black had more talent.

But anyways...

I'll just go off the assumption that you all made the correct choice and decided not to ruin your Friday morning by subjecting yourself to that noise and post the lyrics of the song for you here.

Quote:

I'm late again
Got a lower grade today than yesterday
You hate me
That's why you don't care what I have to say
And I try
But my running sucks
And I try
But I hate doing gym class
I, I play guitar
But in your class
That won't get me far
Please give me a "C"
So that I can be
Finally out of P.E.
I'm never gonna win a medal
But maybe a grammy
You don't care
You just wanna make sure that you fail me
In my mind
I'm so far away
In my mind
I made a mistake
I, I play guitar
But in your class
That won't get me far
Please give me a "C"
So that I can be
Finally out of P.E.
You may think I'm just a troublemaker
But I have talent you can't see
Just because I'm not athletic
Doesn't mean that you can degrade me
I show up, shouldn't that be enough
I, I play guitar
But in your class
That won't get me far
Please give me a "C"
So that I can be
Finally out of P.E.
I, I play guitar
But in your class
That won't get me far
Please give me a "C"
So that I can be
Finally out of P.E.

Girl Power, huh?

I'm not much of a gambling man these days, but if there was somewhere I could put a large sum of money down that at some point in the future Brie will be blaming this performance and being forced to sing those lyrics on the Patriarcy, I bet I could recoup all that money I lost by not buying Bitcoin when it was only $50.

Captain Marvel was at 31% Audience Score with over 58,000 reviews.

Creepy weirdo SJW's purge 54,000 reviews, but score only improves to 36% Audience Score.

Number has now climbed to 18,000+ reviews and has a 51% Audience Score.

A large part of these new reviews are identical text with random names and random pictures. If you look close enough, you'll see that Ethan from H3H3 posted a positive review with this script under the name Nathan at around 3:45.

Doing a search on "I'll make it very simple and clear" "captain marvel", I found a reddit called r/copypasta here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/copypasta/comments/ayyv4z/captain_marvel_2019/

Quote:

I'll make it very simple and clear: Captain Marvel is really worth a watch. It's just entertaining and visually impressive, exactly what it was meant to be. Just keep this in mind that it's an origin story so don't go looking for an overstuffed complex story. It's just a fun action movie that introduces us to a new superhero Captain Marvel, played brilliantly by Brie Larson. I became an instant fan watching her in this action heroine avatar, something she manages to pull off with ease. Watch her in the action sequences and there's no way you can't be impressed. Viewers were literally cheering for some of the most heroic moments in the film. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury is as awesome as always, it's just that his character feels even better and refined than what we've seen. Jude Law is also quite good, and so are Ben Mendelsohn and Lashana Lynch. But the one character that ultimately steals the show is Goose, the cat. Some of the sequences involving her are so hilarious that it was really difficult to stop laughing. Visual effects are excellent, and the IMAX 3D viewing just elevated them. And since it's most importantly an action movie, every single action sequence it delivers is impressive, especially the train sequence. I would call it one of the major highlights of the movie. Cinematography in certain portions is really impressive. Humor, like any other MCU movie, is top notch and really manages to make you laugh. Captain Marvel has a simple-looking origin story presented and executed in a terrific manner. The directors have done a great job with the characterization of Captain Marvel, and that is what makes everything in the film seem so good. The pace is brisk, gore is minimal to no, and there's nothing unsuitable for kids. I'd definitely recommend watching Captain Marvel to anyone who likes superheroes or is simply a fan of action movies. You'll love it if you want to be entertained. It also does answer some much-asked questions, and that should be the reason enough for you to stay instead of just walking away. Can't wait to watch Avengers: Endgame now!

Youtube has also taken the terms "Brie Larson" and "Captain Marvel" and put them in their "trending news" algorithm so if any normies do a search for either of those terms they will only get top results from "authoritative news outlets" like Variety, Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Weekly, CNN, etc.

Critic Rating for Captain Marvel falls overnight to 79% after 54,000 user reviews were deleted and spam bots giving the same review have pushed the Audience Score to 51% (18,747 user reviews) from a low of 31% (with 58,000+ reviews before the purge).

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/captain_marvel/

If you click on "More Info" under the ratings scores at Rotten Tomatoes, you can filter only "Top Critics", which removes garbage tier website critic reviews and only leaves reviews from Legacy Media (43 reviewers, vs 329 reviewers). This lowers the Critic score to 65%, which matches Metacritic's current score of 65 (with 52 reviewers).

https://www.metacritic.com/movie/captain-marvel?ref=hp

Current user score at Metacritic stands at 2.8 out of 10, with 312 positive reviews, 148 mixed reviews, and 1,170 negative reviews.

IMDB current rank is 6.8 out of 10, with 62,054 reviews.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4154664/ratings?ref_=tt_ov_rt

Compared to other superhero movies, there is a ridiculous amount of 1 and 10 star ratings for this movie. We all know that it's no 10-star Citizen Kane, although there are 12,756 people who disagree (20.6% of the reviews). We also know that it couldn't possibly be worse than Leprechaun in the Hood either, so it deserves more than 1 star, which nearly 9,677 gave it (15.6% of reviews).

I'd say it's probably a good assumption to make that about 1/3 of the people voting here are fringe wackadoos from either side, so if you remove all 10 star and 1 star reviews you're left with 39,621 people out of 62,054.

So... how do we get the results for that?

Quote:

How do you average survey results?
In order to correctly calculate the average overall response to each question, we need to:

Multiply the number of individuals selecting each rating by the corresponding rating value (1 – 5)
Add the results of those calculations together.
Divide that result by the total number of responses to the question.

Okay... So we removed all 10's and 1's and all of the users who voted either of those numbers and were left with a total of 39,621.

10 = 0 x 10 = 0
9 = 5,632 x 9 = 50,688
8 = 11,026 x 8 = 88,208
7 = 11,057 x 7 = 77,399
6 = 5,222 x 6 = 31,322
5 = 2,313 x 5 = 11,565
4 = 1,434 x 4 = 5,736
3 = 1,242 x 3 = 3,726
2 = 1,695 x 2 = 3,390
1 = 0 x 1 = 0

Total pts: 272,034

/

Total counted users: 39,621

NEW Legit(?) score: 6.8

...

Huh... lol.

What did we learn here kiddies?

That's right! Repeat after me...

There's enough fringe wackadoos on either side to cancel each other out.

Sounds about right when you look at how crappy 24 hour news networks nightly ratings are and compare it to all the flibberdigibbits posting about what the talking heads on their side told them to think the previous night.

So you've got 68 for users on IMDB with either metric, 65 from legitimate critics on both Rotten Tomatoes Top Critics and Metacritic. 27 from users on Metacritic and 51 from users on Rotten Tomatoes, currently.

Though I'm really tempted to take all 5 of those ratings, combine them, then divide them by 5 to come up with a score of (55/F) for Captain Marvel, I won't do that because I'd be opening myself up to having to do that math and research for countless other movies we've brought up here as well. (Feel free if you'd like to though).

As we can see from the lists above, Comic Book movies seem to have some unique position these days in the Sci-Fi sector of movies. Though unless extremely agenda driven with reviews giving them Oscar caliber status (see: Black Panther), they generally still tend to fare more favorably than other non-"Universe" Sci-Fi/Fantasy properties that aren't owned by Disney or Warner Bros.

All that being said, what do you think? Does Captain Marvel deserve a 65 rating that critics currently give it?

That 65 certainly puts it on the low end of comic book movies, and beats out only X-Men (64), Ant Man (64), and Thor (57) on our current list.

At the same time though, a 65 score beats all of these great (and some mediocre) movies:

Jackie Brown (64)
The Professional (64)
Fried Green Tomatoes (64)
Firefly (TV Show) (63)
Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (58)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (58)
Fast and the Furious (58)
The Thing (80's) (57)
Ghostbusters II (56)
The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (54)
*
The Fifth Element (52)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Movie) (48)
Underworld (42) (highest Underworld was 44)
Kick Ass 2 (41)

Thoughts?

EDIT: * I removed Alita: Battle Angel (54) from the list above since I hadn't seen it and only wanted to include movies that I have seen.

Certainly not on pace to match initial estimates of a $180 Million first weekend take, but probably going to beat the pared back expectations of as little as $80 Million after Brie couldn't keep her mouth shut.

I wonder how much Rotten Tomatoes meddling helped with the box office score for the first weekend, and if it will hurt RT in the long term.

Why would you say that? That's exactly what they are.

What I'm saying is that SJW's don't actually enjoy any of the media they're attempting to destroy. They are incapable of having any fun and their goal is to make sure that everybody else is just as miserable as they are.

If this movie does even reasonably well, it's because the media successfully hid all the bullshit around it long enough from the normies to get their big opening weekend.

Either way, I suspect that there will be a huge dropoff in the money it makes after this weekend, and a lot of fans will feel betrayed if they walk out believing that after 10 years of watching MCU movies they're trying to shoehorn in Carl Manvers to be the Deus Ex Machina.

Generally speaking, potential Pilots are assessed regarding their flying aptitude.
Not so hot, you get helicopters. Rotary wing.
Better, you get cargo planes, like C-130, C-5, etc. Fixed wings.
Better, you get assigned to Bombers. Fixed wings, but more finesse than cargo.
The best, you get assigned Fighter Jets to Pilot. Categorized as Fixed wing, but can be Delta wing (extended for subsonic flight and landing, tucked in for supersonic flight in Interceptor mode).

Fighter Jets do mid-air combat against other aircraft, dogfights. If Bombers or Cargo birds have air-to-air weaponry, it is really only defensive.
In Top Gun, it was all about Dog-Fighting. In the F-14 Tomcat Delta wing fighter.

In Dog-Fighting, it is all about the superior performance of the bird and Pilot. The Pilot who can pull tighter Gs in a turn can prevent the enemy behind from achieving Missile-Lock on him, and also can achieve Missile-Lock on the enemy when pursuing. The Pilot with the better performance is usually the winner and lives for another fight. The second-best performance of the 2 combatants will lose, ending their flight, usually their plane, and often their life.

So the ability to pull Gs is critical. Pulling Gs drains blood from your head, making thought more difficult, but also taking away your vision. Fighter pilots maintain fitness regiments to keep their cardiovascular system adequately supporting their mission, to achieve higher Gs. Most Fighter birds in the world in the 1980s could pull more G's with the airframe uncompromised than the humans in the cockpit could withstand without Loss-of-Consciousness.

Men and women. The center of gravity for human males is in the chest, the torso. The center of gravity for human females is in the hips. This is physiology, despite feminist claims that men and wymmin are exactly the same.
For men, the brain is about a foot above the heart, and the center of blood pool. For women, the brain is also about a foot above the heart (pump), but more like 2-3 feet from the center of blood pool, which is where the heart is accustomed to pumping the majority of the blood. This is a distinct disadvantage in the skills, abilities, performance of a Fighter Pilot, for women compared to men.
In a contest where one wins and lives, and the 2nd place combatant dies. In the 1980s, guess how many Air Wings in the World had female Fighter Pilots. In the 1990s, guess how many Nations in the World had Female Fighter Pilots. So every single enemy combatant of the female Fighter Pilot would be a male, requiring less effort to achieve superior performance and defeat the female.

SJWs should petition to have combat be an equal opportunity experience, as I'm sure all Agressor Nations would comply.

Also, for every female filling a Fighter Pilot Seat, another male is not filling that Seat. If you were staffing your Combat Unit for War, would you logically select the lesser capable individuals, so that your Unit and all its assets will lose? Instead of selecting all of the most capable, the most competent combatants available?

So, is "Elite Female Fighter Pilots" a joke? Let along an entire Squadron of them?

Well, that's just the thing man. The way things have been going, if they don't turn around, I could definately see legal pushes for equal representation of female fighter pilots, even if everything you said about center of gravity was the absolute truth.

If that is, truly, cold hard science... They're just going to say that was the Patriarchy that designed the planes and demand that an entire new line of fighter jets be made to work for women. Maybe they'll even paint them pink and then bitch that they cost twice as much to make as the men's version does.

Really takes the piss out of everybody arguing about this bland and predictable offering.

You think that guy is from Green Bay, or just a fan?

I don't know his exact address, but the whole group there is from Wisconsin. I've only been aware of them for about 4-5 years now, but they've got videos doing this stuff when they were all around college age. (I skipped the first 5 or 6 minutes of the review on the timestamp of the link I sent, because it wasn't at all related to the movie and had a lot to do with the upcoming DNC possibility in Wisconsin).

I laughed when I first realized that they were getting their start back in the days of early youtube I probably lived within 15 minutes of where they were making their videos.

Do you know Lambeau Field is at the intersection of Lombardi Ave and Onieda St? I am 2 blocks from Onieda.

I actually didn't know that. I lived in New Berlin for 5 years but only ventured into Milwaukee on fairly rare occasions. All of my friends and family were back in Illinois, so I usually came back that way when I wasn't working.

I had a friend from work who lived in the south part of Milwaukee that I'd visit sometimes. Other than that, I'd go to Summerfest or the Safe House bar when my friends came up for that, but I pretty much stayed out of Milwaukee.

Damned if I don't still call pop, soda after all of these years. I never did start calling a water fountain a Bubbler though.

ZEEK

Saw it last night and the movie is perfectly fine. Nothing special. Only one part is a bit too on the nose about girl power to me, but I won't spoil it. The MCU is really getting good with their de-aging technology. Samuel L Jackson looks good in the movie. Only a few parts where the effect gets a little wonky.

Brie Larson is a bit off with her acting. I don't know what it is exactly. Comedic timing or tone or something. Mostly she does fine, but some of it's a little too goofy IMO.

Anyone who says the story is too predictable is lying. There's definitely some twists in there that no one would predict ahead of time. Overall, it's a super hero origin movie. So, yeah there are familiar beats. That's how it works, but it's still an enjoyable movie.

Thanks for the pocket review Zeek. I figured it would be just about where you say, an okay movie and within the MCU trope.
