Loved the movie.

I'm not understanding the beginning though, where the engineer at the top of the waterfall sees the spaceship then drinks the Goo and disintergrates into the water.. What was the significance of all that?

His DNA becomes the foundation for life on Earth. He commits suicide to deliberated reproduce his kind. Remember that animation of DNA strands and cells splitting in the water of the river? Later in the movie, Elizabeth compares Alien DNA with Human DNA. She is amazed that it is a perfect match.

Solid explanation Two. He sacrificed himself and his Dna broke down then reinvented itself.
but something happened that caused the Engineers to change their minds. Next film will explore that.

I want to know why.

Ahh. Thank you Two, that makes sense. For some silly reason I hadn't thought that was Earth....
