CANTSTOPTHESERENITY

I am sure many of you are familiar with the Can't Stop The Serenity event we are hosting on or around June 23rd this year.

If you aren't, let me give you a brief synopsis.

First, the website is: http://cantstoptheserenity.com/
Can't Stop The Serenity (CSTS) is an organization made entirely of Browncoats. CSTS coordinates screenings of Serenity to benefit Equality Now, www.equalitynow.org, an organization supported by Joss Whedon. Equality Now is a charity organization that works to protect the human rights of women around the world, focusing on reforming discriminatory laws and practices.

Now, why I am posting here. I am in need of Firefly/Serenity goods and wares to raffle off at the Austin, TX event @ the Downtown Alamo Drafthouse on June 23rd. We are hoping to have Adam Baldwin as a guest and we definitely want to impress him, as well as Equality Now with how commited we are to making this year even more successful than last year.

Our goal? $100,000 in donations.

Last year? We made $65,000.

If anyone can do this, we can. Us Browncoats are a tenacious group of people.

I appreciate any and all help you can provide. If you are in the Austin, TX area, we are in need of your support. Shoot me an email @ beth@cantstoptheserenity.com

Thanks!

EDIT: I am an organizer for Austin, TX. Austin, TX is the only market I work with currently. This post is specific to Austin, TX (and San Antonio, unless they decide to set-up an event). The donation numbers you see above are our global achievement. I apologize for some of the negativity in the comments below - remember, this is not about the individual. This is a group effort. Please try not to forget that!

If you can get Adam Baldwin to be a guest, you have got a pledge of at least $10 plasticy money from me. At least, because if others Big Darn Hero are Serenity Charity guests, I'll probably want to send $10 to those too and there are at least 9 of them. Maybe more if you count Christina and Joss and others.

Have you contacted Adam Baldwin's people yet and found out what the normal fee is for this.

Do you need the websites of the Universal Official merchandise vendors? At the very least they could send you a printout .pdf file that you could print showing their wares. Or maybe business cards. You could ask for that at least and hope they send you coupons or shirts or Serenity money sets.

Just to be clear (cos the above kind of reads weird), the global take last year was $65,000 not just Austin's on its own. Heh.

Also, the worldwide coordinator this year has, or is planning to, contact the various Verse-related companies directly, so that those companies/vendors know about ALL the cities and they can consider trying to spread the love around as much as possible, rather than being bombarded with lots of individual requests from 40+ organizers.

Yeah, I'm sure there will be a screening here in the Bay area and I will be there with bells on!

Okay, no...that would be too noisy in a movie theater...
But I WILL be there, and I will support the cause!
I'll bet I can even find stuff to donate to be raffled off.

Jewel is in Vancouver BC. If she hits anything, I assume it will be their screening.

WE are ONE organization.

We made $65,000.

Seemed pretty clear to me.

Good luck this year.

reads like you're still talking about Austin throughout.

I wasn't asserting you INTENDED it to, or were trying to be deceptive. But it's how it reads, regardless.

Hey, we could argue semantics, but in the end - it is all for a great cause! All that matters to me is that we beat last years numbers.

I'm Beth, btw.

Nice to meet you.

Heh. It's not merely semantics. The clear and recognizable flow of information and communication is important, especially since your using as a username the name of the overall effort itself, which some people will take to mean you are the official overall coordinator/communicator.

Believe me, I wasted a bunch of time last year just trying to beat back confusing information and/or unrelatd campaigns. Potential confusion -- intentional or otherwise -- is something I'm wired to intervene in when I see it come up.

It's nothing personal. It's just also more important than mere semantics (which isn't what this was even just by the actual definition of semantics).

I was trying to squash this 'inter-office' banter.

Gracefully, at least.

Are you done?
