TYBYTHENUMBERS.COM has their Renew/Cancel Index up for ABC's scripted prime-time shows for the 2010-11 season. According to the index, 'Castle' falls in the middle and its renewal can go either way.

If you're interested in seeing the index, just go here:

Huh. Last season all I was hearing was good news about the ratings. And didn't it beat out Jay Leno that once?

Well, thanks for the heads up.

Beating the lowest rated show in Prime time isn't exactly a big victory.

:o Really! Huh.

I mean, I don't like Jay Leno myself, but I thought he was popular.

He was popular on the Tonight Show, but this 9:00 gig isn't working well. Even cable shows (Sons of Anarchy and Monk) are beating him. He's even loosing to reruns on other networks.

Really, as much as I like Conan, giving him the Tonight Show may have been suicide for the network. They were already in last place, and the shows that were keeping them afloat (Tonight Show, Heroes and Law & Order) are tanking. Conan has lost a huge chunk of the Tonight Show audience, and Leno wasn't able to reel them back in for his new show. Heroes and L&O will both be lucky to finish the season, much less come back next year.

I knew goin' in it was gonna get canceled.

It was still a fun run for sure.

Bye, bye Castle!

It is a good show, fun to watch and from what I've heard fun to produce, and I think the other actors will be able to do well from here.

In the very least, I think the show has made a lot of new Nathan Fillion fans, who have subsequently become Firefly fans.

Well, it's a bit early to write it off just because it isn't a lock for renewal. That was the point - it's in the middle - thus the statement "it can go either way". Ratings go up, it comes back, ratings go down, it doesn't. But a bit early to declare it dead.

Meaning: If we want to keep it, we must remember to watch it (not hard in my family) and must recruit fans and flans. Castle is much more likely to be mainstream-popular than that silly space cowboy thing.

The problem with TVbythenumbers nowadays is they don't count the online viewership numbers while the networks now do. There are a lot of people I know that view it the day after on Hulu. Also the book's popularity needs to be taken into account too.

I can't say my opinion on what'll happen, cause I'll jinx it

Goodness, Teska, don't give up YET! Does it do any good to write the network, if anyone knows? I watch, but don't have friends I can tell about it, so I don't know what I can do to help.

But hey, wait a minute, I'm sitting in the middle of the people who've already done the impossible! If Browncoats can't help tip the scales, no power in the 'verse can, surely???

Yes, the networks look at the online ratings - but online ratings don't carry anywhere near the weight as TV ratings. Remember, ratings is all about selling airtime - Hulu has very limited ads, and thus shows viewed on there don't generate much income, and thus are less appealing to the networks.

Incidentally, this is part of the reason Hulu is going to start charging next year.

I saw Castle for the first time last night. I liked it, but i guess i should watch more of it. It seems there are too many shows where people that aren't actual detectives help other detectives solve crimes. His character on there is cool though.

I liked Season One.
Season Two started out as slowly as Dollhouse.
However...the last few episodes we've watched have been REALLY great.
I'm hopeful.

I only just discovered this Castle section!

Castle is not about to be cancelled. It's actually doing pretty well and has been GAINING viewers almost every week which is against the trend of most shows. I have heard that ABC is fairly confident with how things are going with Castle and while there are certainly never any guarantees in this business, ABC are even running re-runs twice a week until the season resumes on Jan 11th.

I think chances for a 3rd season are pretty high.
