No more running. I am to misbehave"

"BROWNCOATS: REDEMPTION" is a ground-breaking independent, not-for-profit film project taking the concept to the next level.

Created, written and directed by Michael Dougherty and produced by Steven Fisher, this ambitious project will directly benefit the following charities: Equality Now, Kids Need To Read, The Marine Corps - Law Enforcement Foundation, the Al Wooten Jr Heritage Foundation Centre and the Dyslexia Foundation, all personally supported by "Firefly" and "SERENITY" creator/writer, Joss Whedon and members of his original cast.

"BROWNCOATS: REDEMPTION" picks up where Whedon's hit film "SERENITY" left off. While set in the same universe, where the interplanetary government has been exposed as a corrupting and lethal force; this film features a new ship and crew. The crew of "REDEMPTION" struggles to survive in the aftermath of the events taken place in "SERENITY"; where a horrible secret jeopardizes the tentative peace resulting from a galaxy wide civil war. The crew members find that they must do whatever necessary to survive, even though it may go against their principles, leading to trouble and startling personal revelations.

"BROWNCOATS: REDEMPTION" completed principal photography in late July and is scheduled for a September 2010 release in independent theatres, festivals and on DVD.

NCBROWNCOAT

I had the honor of spending a Saturday in April on the set of Browncoats: Redemptiom as an extra along with a whole group of shiny Browncoats, both in front of and behind the camera.

I was also at Dragon Con for the premiere of the first trailer. I personally can't wait to see the finished project. And I'm glad it's going to benefit some worthy charities.

Alright, I really need everyone here to pay close attention. My name is Soren, and I am (obviously) a Browncoat. Awhile back, in 2008 on the forum of Fireflyfans.net (a good Browncoat site, by the way), there was an idea. A briliant, briliant idea. Of course, it never came to fruition. I would very much like to get it ...up and running.

The idea is that on the anniversary of the show's airing, September 20th (2010), we will all send in pairs of blue gloves to Fox. In addition, a card with "Can't stop the signal." will be sent with the gloves. Addresses, etc. are yet to come. ANYONE who wants to help me, shoot me an email at uhmspodcast@gmail.com.

This is not a joke, but we need everyone. To quote a poster on the forum, "We need
to get EVERYONE - not just the forum surfers, or the facebook people, but EVERYONE. e-mails, letters, postcards, hell, I like the carrier pigeon idea."

I'm tired of us not doing anything- it's time that ends. I've contacted the owners of Can't Stop the Serenity and this site, as well as The Signal podcast.

http://bluegloveassault.webs.com/ Check it out. Let's be bad guys.

I'm not sure of the whole backstory of the original blue gloves idea. However, at this point gimmicks like sending in objects to a studio doesn't seem like it will do much in the way of reviving the 'Verse. Also, the choice of objects, the blue gloves, has a kind of creepy, negative aspect to it.

Sending a lot of blue gloves to a studio will most likely result in annoying the folks in the mail room. Big executives have their mail screened, so these blue gloves are not going to be dropped on some exec's desk wherein he/she will see them, have an immediate epiphany, and realize it's time to greenlight more Firefly/Serenity.

The more likely result is that the fans of FF/S will appear like a small, slightly kooky gang that still doesn't get how the real business world works in entertainment. Even if somehow the blue gloves got some exec to stop for a moment and think about Firefly/Serenity, the first thing they'd want to do is crunch the numbers and project the profit potential. It will always come down to the numbers. Sales of DVDs, iTunes, ratings when the show and movie are shown on TV, and maybe the numbers on services like Hulu, are what they will be considering.

Instead of fans paying money to buy blue gloves that will most likely get tossed by the studio and end up in a land fill, how about taking that money and do more purchase pushes for the Firefly and Serenity DVDs or online purchases? That's always what will speak louder to the studios.

Just my opinion.

Here, here 11th Hour. If we can keep sales of the DVDs up (and make REDEMPTION a success 'cause Fox, Universal and Joss know about it and will likely be looking to see how it does)after 5 or so years it'll prove that the fan base not only exists, but it's still expanding.

Absolutely! Positive, imaginatively created fan projects, along with continuing Browncoat groups that have booths at big events like ComicCon, the CSTS screenings, active FF/S message boards and websites, show that the fandom is very much alive. The ongoing healthy sales of the FF/S DVDs shows that word of mouth and fan guerilla marketing is bringing in money and increasing the audience.

Browncoats... we're not going away.

I hope we down under get some love and can grab a copy too. It looks interesting, and mega points for donating the cash to charity.

Live screenings, conventions, Redemption- those are all great ideas- and we plan on encouraging everyone who participates in the BGA to also purchase DVDs, etc. Having said that, I do disagree on the mailroom/C.E.O aspect of the argument, because I can't imagine that (and granted, this number would have to be huge) a massive amount of some specific item would go unnoticed.

The gloves being weird and quirky are exactly the edge we need to get noticed. Sending something ordinary and generic wouldn't warrant any sort of response. In addition, I don't feel like we need to prove to the companies we are a cogent business enterprise. We aren't- what we are is an enormous fan contingent.

I have contacted SaveSerenity.org and they are behind the idea 100%- as is Can't Stop the Serenity, as I mentioned before.

It can't hurt!

Um... I don't mean to sound rude, but why not start your own thread instead of bringing it up in someone else's? 'Cause technically, this is spamming a thread about a different fan project.

Also, are you advertizing this project in more than one browncoat community? Not all BCs come to FFF.net, so the more research and work you do across the board, the more wide-known your project will be.

It's quite alright- I completely agree. The only reason that I posted on this thread specifically is that I was having trouble contacting the Redemption creators to get them on board with a mutual partnership.

And as far as contacting other sites, I have been doing my best. Anyone who wants to help do so, and/or become a member can always visit my site (see below).
