Important people don't do field work.

I was waiting for this to show up after I saw it last night. Sigh...

What are you gonna do. Personally, I would look at what KRAD, who has had some experience with rabid fanbases before, had to say about Browncoats. But, who knows. There's really no way to counter this. I knew that once Joss went public with this, this is what would happen. And, frankly, I would look for more of it, and for it to get blown way out of proportion.

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Any press is good press in the long run. While it might make us look bad it will make alot more people aware of the movie come septemeber.

I kind of agree - obviously noone's condoning the behaviour of those "so-called" Browncoats. But on the plus side, people who aren't really aware of the show/film will wonder what the hell this movie is, and how come it's so great people are fighting to get in to see it.

Just as long as they're not put off going for fear of being attacked...

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well, normally I would agree that any press is good press, but this type? Not so much.

The comments on the article seem to be from browncoats and don't focus on the threats made to the theatre personnel. Hopefully this will be the only article of this nature and the story will get lost in all of the positive ones about the BDM.

Just looking for that silver lining....albeit a tarnished one.

The offenders should be banned from all theatres and made to wait for the DVD release...

Unfortunately it will put Serenity/Firefly on the map as "just another one of those sci-fi things where people with no lives go crazy over."

Unless the movie really is hugely popular.

ITA--I don't buy the whole "there's no such thing as bad publicity argument" (and neither does Michael Jackson, I'd warrant). Plus, really juicy negative publicity is like kudzu--if you do a word count on this article, less than a third of it is about the very good news that "Serenity" screening sold out in a day with no advertising, which actually might intrigue people who don't know anything about the movie. The rest is All About How Crazy and Violent the Lunatic Fans Are.

I posted about this on the SB, and the guy who submitted the item to Rotten Tomatoes posted back that the original article was much less focused on the whole Lunatic Fans things, but of course the editors felt the need to play up the spicy bits. Which is what happens when people pull crap like this. So, thanks again to whoever felt obligated to threaten people:

On the bright side, I did a Nexis search today and didn't turn up any stories in newspapers or magazines. So cross your fingers and hope the kudzu doesn't spread much more....

I'd like to see a Law and Order epsiode involving someone murdering someone to get their Serenity ticket. That'd be a good one. Adam Baldwin could guest star and in a Law and Order twist it turns out HE was the murderer.
