For Browncoats who haven't seen a BDM screening, are you afraid our rather intimate little show is gonna be overshadowed by a HUGE, monsterous, action filled extraviganza?

Me, nope. Not afraid at
all . Things change, so bring it on, I say. It'll be a bit different, but it'll be great. I had my worries at first, but I saw the trailer and I feel all is well.

If you saw the movie already (and more of us will have by May 5th) feel free to coment, but please be general so anti-spoiler folk like myself can take it in safely. Don't go to mentioning the giant space monkeys- oops! Not again- I slipped!

So, is everyone feelin' okay with scope of this BDM?

Ok, I have seen screening(s) of Serenity - and I can say this is extension of the Firfly Universe with some differences which may have been made to make the transfer to the Big Screen better.

You know from what Joss has written & spoken about post-firefly series that he intended certain characters to go in certain directions (and we might have seen more of that had the series continued) well, you get to see the crew & characters 6-8 months down the line from the end of the TV show.

I will say that If you have no understanding of Firefly, then maybe this will be a bone-shaker ride with lots of questions to ask at the end of it - what I would say to these people is see it again for a second time (not because I want them to see it again but I feel they will gain a better understanding of the characters & why certain things happen within the film when they know what is to come).

Maybe the best thing would be for universal & fox to get together & re-release Firefly or give away either the pilot episode `Serenity` or the `Train Job` with certain DVD`s bought in stores - this should raise peoples hopes and let`s face it people would be more inclined to watch something if it`s given away free - right?

that`s my take right or wrong, it`s my ideals, and as mentioned I`ve seen screenings (plural) and it was smoother for me the 2nd time (and that`s comeing from a big fan!)

This has been my main concern since the movie plans were announced. I've been reassured, by several of those who've seen the screenings, that the intimate family atmosphere is still there. Even in a worst case scenario, where it is in fact a big damn action movie, I'd still be psyched to see it - just because Joss is a great talent and I love the chemistry of the cast.

For those of us who fell in love with this show anticipating several seasons of story arcs, it's sometimes hard to put away the disappointment of seeing it dismissed so unjustly. And it can be hard to accept that, even with the movie, it's not going to happen. But I'm am holding out hope that Joss can preserve on the big screen the moments of subtle emotion and humor that made the series such a gem.

But... until they're producing ten or fifteen movies a year, I doubt I'll ever feel justice has been done.

I forgot to mention one more thing, we NEED to make this a massive hit, I spoke briefly to Chris Buchanan at the UK Serenity Con and he believes in the Movie & Joss but it`s down to the ratings & money taken game to ensure that firstly a sequel is made and then a 3rd in the series.

So go out door to door if neccessary and make sure everybody is aware that the New Han Solo is Mal Reynolds & the New Millenium Falcon is Serenity.

And lets get good fan press, and not let bad stuff happen which could be attributed to desperate fans.

SergeantX, nothing can ever replace multiple seasons with their layers of character and story, and as I wear out my first dvd set of Firefly I am still greatful for the few eps there are. Just imagine if Joss was told 'Good idea, but make it a feature', we would not have had this great introduction to the crew and all the backstory they managed to cram into those few shows!
I like to think of it as fourteen hours of intro to a series of theatrical features!
YEAHHHHHBABY!!!

I've narrowed it down to only tellin' homosapiens 'bout Serenity/Firefly, myself.

I've seen the movie with Zol (although I'm pretty sure he has no idea who I am!).

As I've said before, it's not overburdened with action or CGI. Joss has seen Matrix 2+3. He's commented before that the first Matrix film is probably his favourite film, but he has 'issues' (putting it politely) with the last two.

Very, very mild description of one of the core character follows - but nothing 'bad' spoiler wise:

Select to view spoiler:

Mal is far more of the original vision of him here (Fox wanted him 'brightened' for Firefly). He starts off pretty much the same, but events drive him into himself a bit. It's very interesting - at one point, I actually found myself thinking 'Woah, I'm not sure if I like this guy at the minute!'. But then he totally redeems himself. All the space of one movie. I liked that - Mal goes on an emotional journey, and it's fun seeing Nathan play it.

That's my example. If it movie was overburdened, you don't really have character development (can anybody remember Keanu Reeves actually having to act the later Matrix movies?).

There's a very strong message in this movie about war, truth and belief, and how they interact but don't always agree. I'm very much looking forward to seeing Serenity several more times - I know I will have missed an awful lot.

It is in some ways different to Firefly - movies are a different format, and several years down the line you also have contracts etc to deal with - but in other ways it's the same. Same crew. Same universe. Same sayings. Same witty dialogue. Same underdogs. New format.

Missing out on the untapped market of chimps with allowances? Call yourself a Browncoat?

Oh, what the hell, I'm weak...

Shouldn't we tell the French about the movie as well?

WhoIsRiver, your post came right up on the line, but did not tell TOO much...I didn't read the hidden message, though.
Thanks, that pretty much confirms my hopes for the BDM.
Now, if I can just contain my enthusiasm and walk into that theatre in FIVE month's time as IF my head WERE'NT going to explode!!!

...it's okay....it's all gonna be okay, now...

Zol, I completely agree w/ you there on spreadin the good word and all. Other non sci fi boards I frequent I have the Serenity logo as my sig, w/ links to the trailer. So, when the screening comes out, I make the announcement and get kidded about whether I'll show up w/ my Serenity T-Shirt, hat, tattoo....etc.( I don't have any tattoos ) Point being, some might see the OVER zealous pushing of a movie as a real turn off, so I've been trying to walk that fine line. Anyone else have that problem?

That is a fine line, all righty. I've tried to "seed" people with the idea that I was thrilled about this film, not so much that they should be. Infectiousism, as it were.
