Dramatic irony lies in the audience's deeper perceptions of a coming fate, which contrast with the character's perceptions."

Hence my comment that I hoped your post was ironic.

Important people don't do field work.

I like the idea of a canned food drive, but I don't live anywhere near where there is a advanced screening. Don't bother me none, I'd rather see the finished film with the rest of the NC Browncoats anyway, but is there some way that we can find out where this happened, and try to make reparations of some kind? I know fruitbaskets and flowers have been mentioned. I just want the world, that theater, and Universal to know that THAT is NOT typical Browncoat behavior. After having been on this site, and some others for over a year now, it has been my experience that Browncoats, as a group are friendly, giving, generous, and helpful. See the many coat drives, and other charities that have been given assistance by Browncoats. While this isn't a charity per se, I would still like to find out some way (via a gift of some kind) to smooth ruffled feathers of theater owners where the advanced screenings are, and thank them for hosting them.

Any ideas?

It was all a misunderstanding.

All I said was "I'd kill for some tickets."

I like it Shiny!

I helped out w/ the Browncoat Drive awhile back and we had a lot of fun doing it. It was cold standing in that parking lot all day, but more than worth the discomfort for all the coats we collected for the needy.

This canned food drive is the sort of thing to get some more good press to negate the problems caused by these troublemakers.

FFG,

There is no reason for you to feel anything but proud to be a browncoat. In all sincerity I feel that we are the best, most enthusiastic fan base out there. We have done what other people said couldn't be done, and I don't think any of us should let a few bad apples spoil it for us.

I have never really considered myself as part of a fanbase until Firefly. Sure, I liked some movies or TV shows, but never enough to dress up at a Con, participate on message boards, or to organize shindigs and charity events in the name of a fandom. Then I discovered Firefly. Something inside me clicked and I felt the overwhelming urge to part of it, if only as a fan. Nearly everyone here has helped to promote the show, fought for it, or got the word out to the uninitiated in one form or another. That is something to be proud of. No one can take that from us and we shouldn't let them.

Okay, so a few people didn't conduct themselves like adults. SHAME on them!!! If they visit here and read this, I hope they feel terrible for causing the theatres, the people that work there, Universal, and Joss aggrivation. They should feel terrible. After all Joss and Universal have done to get Serenity flying again, we should feel nothing but elation and gratitude.

I can understand being frustrated that they can't get tickets, and maybe we don't know the entire story, but we as browncoats should always conduct ourselves with integrity and honor. If we go out there and cause a bunch of grief it reflects badly on the fanbase, Joss, Universal, and the BDM. We have come too far and endured too much to allow hot tempers and bad manners to ruin it for all of us now!

Fellow Browncoats, I know that many of us are disappointed that we don't have the opportunity to see the screening in May, but we have to hold fast. We can ill afford to let our frustration to cause us to do or say something we might all regret.

Keep Flyin'!

Well said, as usual BC1 and I hope those unruly Browncoats have perhaps apologized for getting a mite tetchy when they shouldn't have. I just feel those few reflect on the 99.99999% who do act with honor and integrity as Firefly fans and it pains me.

I am to misbehave but not at movie theaters

As one of the fortunate few who is actually going to one of Thursday's showings (thanks again to Ginntonic for hooking me up), I plan to be on my very best behavior. I hereby solemnly pledge to:

1) Line up neatly and wait patiently.
2) Use my "indoor voice".
3) Say "please" and "thank you" when dealing with theater personnel.
4) Avoid the Special Hell by not talking (or molesting any children) during the movie.
5) Enjoy the heck out of said movie and applaud wildly at its conclusion.
6) Leave in an quick and orderly fashion 'cause it's way past my bedtime.

Hopefully, if enough of us behave in a similar fashion, it will help polish our tarnished reputation.

See (some of) you at the BDM!

XEROFALL

I had a similar experience when Star Wars Episode 1 came out.

I sat in a seat after waiting 4 hours to get in, but some guy said the entire three rows were "reserved" I was like yeah right, good luck telling dozons of people the prime seats are reserved.

So he pulled a knife on me, honestly. I pointed him out to the theater manager and the woman told me to simply change seats.

So it's just people in general that are crazy, not just Firefly fans.

Ah, it was all going so well until that last sentence!!

Now excuse me while I go watch my team trample Chelsea into the dirt this evening....What's that? Yes, of course they stand as much chance as Serenity out-grossing Episode III. Your point is?

And I'll just repeat my comment posted elsewhere that the aforementioned Unruly Browncoats should be made to wait until the DVD is released - and then be forced to watch some obscure foreign language version (not Chinese, obviously) with subtitles.

Great ideas, O2H!

I'll add one more that someone on the OB suggested:

7) Pick up everything around you -- leave the theatre as clean (or cleaner!) than you found it. Not having to clean up after browncoats will certainly help endear us to the theatre managers! :)

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

Another addition - as you sit down, take a quick look around for video cameras. They'd likely be hidden under coats etc.

If in doubt, ask a staff member to have a look quietly. I doubt anybody will take offense - best be safe than sorry. We don't want the BDM online this early on (and unfinished) as it'd really hurt chances of sequels due to DVD piracy etc.

Oh yea of little faith - not the most exciting match for a neutral, but I'm an ABC (Anyone But Chelsea - we've had to put up with it for far too many years so turnabout's fair play).

Besides, from an atmosphere, nothing beats the Liverpool (or Celtic for that matter) fans singing you'll never walk alone.

A couple other suggestions from the OB:

8) Pick up after yourself and each other -- leave the theatre spotless and that will leave a pretty great impression on the managers/owners

9) Bring a couple really big greeting/thank-you cards and have everyone in the audience (or as many as possible) sign it. Give one to the theatre manager and send one to Universal.

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

What time are you going to be getting to the SF theatre on Thursday? If you bring the greeting cards, I'll bring a giant bouquet of flowers for the theatre management. We can pass the cards around during the line party, and give the theatre managers their copy once the doors open.

Yup! The one and only Shiny! (well, except for "Shiney" and the fact that 'Shiny' was taken on the OB so I'm actually 'Shiny_' over there and...er...um...yup, that's me.) ;)

I'm definitely going to go look for a couple of oversized thank-you cards for browncoats to sign at the SF premiere. I'm not sure when the missus and I will get there, probably no earlier than 7pm, no later than 9pm (although I'm not even sure we'll get to sit together if we get there that late! LOL!)
