Important people don't do field work.

I've been reading Finding Serenity, and have completed roughly a third of the book, which has been excellent. Then again, I'd sit and listen to someone fart an essay about Firefly. But, there was a concept in the book that I'd never thought about before, and I found utterly intruiging.

What if, the Reavers are conciously trying to mark territory and keep people out of it? I was recently watching Candyman, and there was a drugdealer in the film that does roughly the same thing. He claims the title of Candyman, scares the hell out of a bunch of people in a housing project, and manages to get the word around that Candyman rules Cabrini Green. Well, our intrepid group of space travellers have shown that damn near everyone are scared out of their wits of Reavers, and that Reavers have been around for awhile. What if, Reavers are guilty of a huge bunch of atrocities, but not necessarily what everyone is afraid of them for?

The evidence presented so far would bear this up. All those bodies left behind in "Bushwhacked". That's food, that is, and why didn't they take it with them? Where are the children, because, after all, you need new recruits, and someone to pass the word along? Reaver attacks in this light take on a new meaning. They give the Reavers malice aforethought. It means that they strike with a purpose. Yes, get what we're after, but leave a little something behind to further our reputation. Not unlike Adelai Niska.

Seen in this light, this credits more intelligence to the Reavers than I had ever thought about before. It means the Reavers are furthering their own reasons for people to be afraid of them. This brings up the new situation of people being so afraid of them that they forearm against them. But, as presented in the Firefly 'verse, people are so afraid of them, that they don't know, or don't concieve of how to denfend themselves. The Reavers are there, and there's no way to save yourself. Pretty fitting.

Then again, this is all conjecture, and by someone who's more than three sheets to the wind right now.

Sorry.

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Just a bump to keep the thread alive long enough for me to find that essay, & read it.
