The North Carolina Big Damn Movie Premiere Party, hereafter referred to as the NCBDMPP, is 90% a BIG DAMN GO!!!

I've spoken with the Universal Rep, and while there are some legal loose ends to tie up, something about Theatres not being allowed to formally 'bid' for a film without a screening, it seems that Mr. Peebles, the owner of the Ambassador Entertainment, took it upon himself and established a relationship with the Universal Rep on our behalf, so that Universal has pretty much decided that Mission Valley Theatre will be an excellent venue for both the showing of the film AND our Premiere Event. You can find Mission Valley here:
http://www.movieminder.com/showtheater/?tcode=1

The folks at 'Versal to whom this info is relevant are aware that fans nationwide are planning major premiere events with theatres and are apparently quite excited about it. To quote the 'Versal rep who spoke to me. . .
Quote:

So you Browncoats are planning to make us some money, huh? We love people that make us money!

So it looks like we're going to be at Mission Valley, which is convenient to hotels and resturants, has plenty of parking, a nice-sized lobby, and an owner who had already agreed early in the summer to allow us to have the NCBDMPP in the first place!

Huzzah! Looks like this stuff is falling into place!!!

I will find a way to get there and see Serenity with my Browncoat friends. Sounds like we may have a large treehouse group there...that would be cool.

TheGreyJedi and I are both performers with the Carolina Renaissance Festival, and here is the plan that we're following. . .

Several Browncoats will be guests of Casa Del Static that weekend. We'll head to Raleigh from Greensboro (about an hour) for the movie on Friday Night. . .then we'll be leaving the theatre and hauling ass to Charlotte (2-2.5 hrs from Raleigh) where we already have hotel suites reserved, so we can get a reasonable ammount of sleep before the opening weekend of the Renaissance Festival.

I'm going to attempt to work it out so that Browncoats who attend the Raleigh premiere get some free or discounted tix to the Renaissance Festival.

So, Are you and Grey in Greensboro or the Raliegh/Triad area? I'm currently in Charlotte, But seriously considering moving to the triad, Just need to work things out to have a job when I get there. This is mostly due to a friend moving up there and already having other friends there, and well continuing to be disappointed with the quality of life in Charlotte. Either way I'm in for the premire. If I can get a place in the triad and work there prior to the premire, I may have some 'crash space' for other Browncoats coming in for the NCBDMPP.

Excellent news, Static!

So would you recommend fireflyfans in other areas of the country who are interested in organizing a shindig to contact their regional rep?

We live in the Greensboro/Piedmont Triad area. Raliegh/Durham/Chapel Hill(go heels!) is the Triangle. And yes, Charlotte sucks.

I strongly recommend getting in touch with a theatre owner in your area, securing their 'blessing' to host a premiere event, then contacting your regional 'Versal rep to make sure THEY know that those are your intentions.

818-777-1000 is the number for Universal Pictures Information. Ask for Universal Pictures Distribution Division.

I had not thought to ask for promotional materials from 'Versal to help with the event, but thanks to someone's suggestion, I'll do that on Monday!

So I really would love to get down from MD to NC for this premiere! I think it would be fun. Some general questions.

When is the NCBDMPP taking place?

What hotels are nearby?

How would we purchase tickets if we don't live in Raleigh? Like would there be a special site or something like that. Is there a website for the Mission Valley Cinemas (run by the MVC that sells tickets online)?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks, Static, for working on getting this going!

OK, sorry I got the Triad and Triangle mixed up. More likely I'll be going to the Durham area (Triangle) and working in Chapel Hill. If things go smooth (why can't things ever go smooth) It's likely I'll actually be working at one of the places you mentioned (Sheraton) Just a transfer away if there is an appropriate opening. Maybe then I could arrange discounts for Browncoats that weekend?? We'll see if I can secure a position there first.
I also have friends in Greensboro, yeah it's much nicer (in that I'm getting older and prefer things more peaceful now kind of way) than Charlotte. Raliegh area: Aside from having more friends up there now, there's Edward Mckay's Bookstores, for inexpensive books(gaming and otherwise) and Crazy Fire Mongolian Grill (yum!)

So, you know the joy of both. Excellent. Crazy Fire is just.....Wow. After eating there only twice, I looked them up online and found I could buy a franchise for only $35,000. Not that I have that kind of money. I should get you and Grey together with my friends in Greensboro, you all have a lot in common[from the posts I've read]. That's not a bad thing.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I'll be there for the NCBDMPP Static. It's only 163 miles, which with the way my wife drives we should be able to make in about two hours.

Wouldn't miss it for the world.

I know this is just my stupidity, but what exactly is this premiere party going to entail. I mean, I plan on being there, but I may have to convince my wife, and she may have something more grandiose in her head than I'm able to describe. I don't mean to second guess or anything, I just want to know. Then again, no one may want me there.

I mean, I am kinda strange.

FURTHER UPDATE!!!!!

The owner of the theatre has contacted me to confirm that he will welcome a MASSIVE event (The bigger the better since the end of September is a "Dry Spell" in the movie business) and has agreed that Mission Valley is the ideal place.

Once we get OFFICIAL words (after screenings and such), we'll begin etching plans in stone.

Is there nothing being arranged for a Maryland event? We have lots of potential sites, ranging from the busiest theater complex in the US (Muvico Egyptian 24 at Arundel Mills near BWI, over 300K customers a month) to the Senator in Baltimore (genteel, old-school theater) to the Cinema & Drafthouse in Edgewater.

If no one else is looking into this, I'll have to take a peek I guess...

There isn't anything that I'm aware of. But I just think it would be fun to get down to NC and have a huge gathering of browncoats at one theater. Plus, I've never been to anything like what Static helped plan, it's just for fun.

I know, its still a few months a way but I've done a bit of online research and it appears that the Best Western is the cheapest of the 3 nearby hotels. (Which is good cause I don't think there's going to be a whole lot of sleep that weekend).
I was just wondering if it is in walking distance of the theatre? Right now plane tickets are insane so the less money I have to spend on hotel and other things the better!

Hey Xanderlharris,
I'm planning to attend D*C though I've yet to get tickets and crash space. I got cheap space last year but had to drive a bit each day. I'm in NC and just found out that no one(of my friends) that went last time is going. I still want to go so maybe sharing the drive wouldn't be a bad call, depending on your location. I'll be departing from Charlotte, right off 85 and heading down Thurs. so as to go ahead and get tickets and be there for Friday morning. what are your plans?

I have to be there Thursday to help get the Walk of Fame set up. So I will be leaving Thursday morning. I am staying at the Hyatt on the second floor. Don't know which rooms yet but I think it will be a suite right next to the Con Suite. The Con Suite is the best place to get free food and drink. Once I know what room I plan to have a party or at least a get together. I will post later and look for me at the Dealer room or the Walk of Fame further in.

You are right the Best Western seems to be the most reasonable but it is nowhere close to the movie theater. The only motels near the theater are way to expensive and too far away. The reason for this is NC State. The college is just to close. I could be wrong but I Googled and saw no other hotels nearby. The Best Western is right near the mall so that says something. You could get a bus to the theater but I do not know how you would get back. Maybe if enough people stay at that hotel, the hotel would allow a van pickup to and from the movies. I could pick up a couple of people and go that way but that would be limiting. I just don't know.

Like I said as long as the hotel is half-way decent and inexpensive I'm not picky. Best Western looks like the best bet room rate wise. Unless someone else has found somethng that I haven't yet. If enough people are interested in staying there I'd be willing to contact the hotel and ask about a shuttle service. Maybe we can get some kind of group room block discount? I'm not sure how many are planning on attending from out of town, but let me know I can give them a rough estimate of potential guests and see what they can do.
