I was visiting my parents and my brother this past weekend, and much to my dismay my brother was saying that he thinks Serenity is going to be shelved and it'll never make it out this year. What should I say to people who nay-say our BDM like that?

hardly any point in arguing...
it comes down to
"no it won't"
"yes, it will"
At the end of September you can prove it,
but until then you may as well ignore him.

But have you shown him the 'Firefly' DVDs?
Because my brother loved them and would never bad mouth the BDM!

Yeah, our Mom has them over there at their house, and he refuses to watch it.

You're right, it's a pointless argument. At least I know I'm right

Oh, wait, I know what we do to the nay-sayers

I call that the "Jayne Way"

You should bark at him very loud, and show him your teeth in a highly intimidating way. If possible, bristle your fur.

Then, drop trow and hike your leg on his new sofa. Scratch your hind paws on his carpet, *grrr*...

That oughtta teach him.

Lycanthropically,

I would say that if they didn't like the show, then they probably didn't understand it. Why am I wasting my time talking to you about it anyway?

If really thinks SERENITY is going to be shelved (meaning go straight to DVD) then make a bet that if he's wrong he has to buy your ticket.

I tend to agree that anyone who doesn't like the series doesn't understand it. There is also the possibility that they just will not give it a fair chance. My brother will see sci-fi or fantasy and immediately block it out. He says it's because there's always some miraculous event that occurs to save the day. I've never gotten him to explain why that is such a problem in sci-fi and fantasy but not in regular drama and suspense movies. They all do the exact same thing. Darn prejudice against sci-fi and fantasy

Their loss though.

Great answer!
I suspect that the brother in question
is just trying to bug his sister
but telling him to "put his money where his mouth is"
is a GREAT answer!

Yeah, I'm sure my brother is just trying to annoy the piss out of me...that's his way hahah. I did make him put his money where his mouth is actually. I made a bet with him, which I have every bit of faith that I'll win!

As I put it in another thread, my friends have chronoton particles stuck up thier butts and are in a timewarp. If it don't come from Star Trek or Galactica, they won't give it a chance! I was told that if I GAVE them copies of Firefly, they'd sit on shelves!
Hey, I like Trek too, and BG is a good series, but come on!! I think they're afraid to get hooked on another show/movie or something.
I'm jus' waitin' 'till September... some tall appologies will be in order, and I can hear 'em now..."I didn't know you meant it was THAT good, duh, duh"
Yeah, "best f@*#ing sci-fi show ever" isn't strong enough wording. I shoulda been more emphatic.

Zeek, I think the prejudice comes from
the fact that it's easier to watch a drama where who's sleeping with who or car chases are the point of the show, and in many sci-fi and fantasy based shows and movies you have to actually listen to the dialogue 'cause it's important and such, and that can be a terrible bother.

Don't mean to be mean but see what I mean?

I gave a set to a friend for a July birthday,
and they did sit on the shelf for a long long time,
but when she got the flu in January the DVDs got put into the machine...
and now she is completely hooked and longing for the movie!
(I knew she couldn't resist Captain Tightpants!)

Most of the folks simply don't know enough about Firefly/Serenity to nay-say in the 1st place. I'll be taking 2-3 on opening night, but sadly, none are nearly as excited 'bout the BDM as I am. I'm hoping as the date draws nigh and word gets out, it'll create a bigger stir....they know I'm usually right about such things.

Yeah, brothers...what to do with them? They're too big to fit in a blender....

I would point out to him that there was a time, not that long ago, when Everybody Who Knew Anything was busily telling Those Sad, Deluded Browncoats that there was not a chance in hell that a major movie studio would EVER be interested in making a film out of this crappy series that didn't even last a season. And look where we are now.

I'm glad you bet him. That's going to be the sweetest folding money you've ever earned.

OR,
We tie 'em up, tell 'em they got a choice.
We cut off thier ears and get to know the "real" them, or they can watch the eps back to back!

...that may be a little on the edge...
